Good video. Changed dozens of these calipers, always seize up. As a tip for the older models I would crack the brake pipe unions off before you take the caliper bolts off, they can be corroded in badly and tend to twist so you have to make a copper brake pipe for them.

Thanks, that is very true and a good tip when they are really badly corroded.

I've had them twist too. B&B Components sell some nice ones for £13 each from eBay. Other suppliers sell both for £17.

Good one, I can confirm that's the same caliper as on my Skoda Roomster, funny how discs need replacing so frequently these days, I'm sure that never used to be the case! Thank for the video

Thanks, interesting cross-usage. It is true that the materials they have to use now are more abrasive, because materials such as asbestos can't be used any more and rightly so, same as when they removed lead from petrol - a cleaner, healthier new world I'm afraid ! :-)

Bringing up this one from the past but modern cars use the rear discs a lot in stability control applications also increasing wear.

Great video an always. Keep up the good works. Is there any particular procedure to bleed the abs system ?
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, you need vagcom or similar to do what is called 'basic settings' procedure on the ABS system. It systematically opens and closes the internal valves within the ABS unit while you follow instructions for bleeding.

Another great video, thanks. My Superb2 needs new rear callipers. Have you got any suggestions for an online shop? Cheers

Thanks, I would use the OEM part numbers and search suppliers to take your pick. It is best to try for OEM parts if you can afford them, but these rear calipers all eventually fail anyway and I don't really know which brands are better than others. Perhaps a search online may help narrow it down a bit. There are lots of good manufacturers that produce decent parts and I will put links to some parts on videos if I've use them and know they are good. Hope this helps a little :-)

Hey there. Could you please help me with that. I have a 2013 skoda fabia, my battery light on the dashboard it doesn’t go off and I lately checked the alternator and the battery and there was no problem and both work perfectly. But after a minute of starting the Engine the light is popup. Regards.

A fault is in the bat/charging system. Have you installed a new battery? What have you checked with the alternator? The voltage should be relatively stable over 14v at bat and Alt when charging. Take the earth lead to the body off, clean it with emery cloth and tighten back. In fact clean/check/ tighten all relevant connections. May just need a new regulator as these are known to fail after some time.

Did that caliper piston need rotating or would a G clamp pressing it in be OK??
@HatBoyHarvey
@HatBoyHarvey 4 ай бұрын
@10:52 you can see me using a wind-back tool. You are best to use these on the rear as the piston needs rotating to move it back in. This is because the handbrake needs to be adjusted on disk brakes as the pads get thinner. The pads need to be the same distance to the disc for the handbrake to function correctly. If you're strong you may be able to do it by hand, but I wouldn't recommend it! A G clamp is great to use on the front though :-)

I tried to take off my break pipe, but it littrally tore off when i tried taking it off, it seems that only one side rotates on its own without having any issues thats the one that connects to the caliper, the one thats coming off from this part of the vid 7:43 tore off it was quite rusty

Sorry to hear that and unfortunately this is true for these. The older the part is the more likely it is that it becomes increasingly difficult to remove without breaking something. When I first started tinkering with cars it happened to me and only time and experience gives you an insight into just how each part is effected over time and how to remove them. Don't beat yourself up over this as that part could fail like that anytime, so it is best to fix these sooner rather than later so next time will be easier :-)

If you change elecrtic parking brake do you need to code the new one ?

Sorry don't know that, I'm yet to encounter those, but you need vcds to change the pads I believe :-)

if u use pressure u shouldn't press pedal. U could damage master cylinder. Be careful.
