Hi i have 2008 audi a8 same problem got it diagnosed from a mechanic and he told me that access/start module is baked because of water getting in there should no idea what should i do now ? Any help pls ?

Ha … I did… not only did I figure out how to reset it I figured out how to fix it for 10% of what the dealer wants…

And to add I used a very basic autel maxidiag to do this and it worked no bother.

Pretty sure it has to be vagcom, there was a code in one module that evev vagcom wouldn't show, but could reset. Don't remember the name but it appeared to be some antitheft

Yes several people have told me they were able to bypass the mechanism and I tried it the problem was the battery would be dead every day at least that was my experience

Hey good morning yeah I would think you would have to have the full version I don’t honestly know are you experiencing the exact same problems I had in my video? I do have video of where I actually repair the problem and it’s your Start control module underneath your steering column We rebuild them down here. If you need more information about that you can reach out to me on Clays A/c and Auto Repair on the Facebook messenger. And I will give you the information you need. All of the Start control module’s go bad in these from 2004 to 2010. You Can buy aftermarket ones and used ones but they all have to go to the dealership and be reprogrammed which means you have to tow the vehicle and pay the dealership anywhere from two to $400 just to reprogram it to the vehicle plus she will need keys so sometimes it’s even more if you send me yours . The most you’ll have to do is clear the codes. Let me know if I can be of some help have a great day

You can certainly expect that it will not last. Literally you could park the car at the convenient store and come back out and it will not start, It’s the steering lock control module that is defective. Several months after repairing this one I figured out what the problem was and I made a video of the repair I don’t actually show you how to repair it but I do repair them for the general public it helps me continue to make videos like this one and continue to solve lengthy complicated problems. You can take the vehicle to your local Audi dealership and they will replace the steering column for about $2800 my repair on these cost about $350. End it is most certainly something that you can do in your driveway relatively easily by dropping your steering column down and taking the box off and shipping it to me. Since making that video there has probably been other channels that have stolen my idea by making their videos quicker and shorter but if people like you would like to continue seeing people like me make these videos I would recommend you reach out to me on my Facebook page clays Ac and Auto Repair and send me a DM or you can send me an email if you would like to get it repaired. I will just drive it around while it lasts and try to find another vehicle since my audi is in awful shape anyways. Oil leaks, loose chains, broken muffler, rusted… But helped me a lot to get it started today to buy some more time until i find new car. Thank you!!!

Are use the Maxis SYS 908P To clear the codes most people won’t spend 4k to clear codes. I’m not sure if a regular scanner will clear them or not. For some reason while I’m writing this I can’t remember the name of the Audi Volkswagen specific system that you can buy off of eBay etc. but I think it’s called vadcom I wish I could be of more help

I finally tracked the above issue to faulty key ignition cylinder that was jamming the key from turning into on position and to start the car, I will post the video of this I how i finally got it resolved.

No you cannot just clear the codes and restart the vehicle because you were unable to clear the codes that are stored inside the Kessy switch. Without using the exact procedure that I show you in the video which means the key cannot be turned on And since most scanners will not work without the key turned on you generally need a very high-level scanner to clear the codes out Vadcom Is a scanner that you can buy off the Internet to do this but it requires laptop and I think they’re about $200 I don’t personally owned one of them types of scanners

@@sharpcarco Hi thanks for your response. In my case when I insert the key I hear the steering column open but when I turn the key the switch does not work. I do not hear the electricity the switch gets and it just does not work. And when I take out the key the steering column does not close back. What solved it was a guy's scanner I paid him. Now it has happened again.

When you stick the key in the ignition do you hear the steering column unlock?

From what I understand you would need a vag. I’ve never tried to reset all the codes with a basic scanner but if you do let us know if it works make sure you hold the brake pedal turn the four ways on and hold the highbeam switch while you’re trying to read and reset the codes

Hi Kelly it’s very common that I answer anyone who ask a question so you don’t have very many fears of that unless you’re rude. The scanner that I use is called the Maxis 908P on Amazon they are only about $3800 for the American version. I made a follow up video to this where I actually show you how to repair it it’s under my Audi playlist, in order to actually repair the problem you have to lower the steering column and remove what’s called a Start control module I will show you that in the video. Since making that particular video or videos similar to that one about this problem that is extremely common with Audis people send them to me from all over the country I repair them and ship them back. In order to reach me about that you’ll need to reach out to me on Clays AC and auto repair on Facebook and you can send me a private message and I will give you more details. Regretfully the average Joe schmo cannot do this. But it is very repairable and extremely affordable the dealership charges $2400 to repair this problem I’m a fraction of the cost of that. I would tell you the cost over this communication but I don’t want to have price is set in stone so I generally tell them to individuals when they contact me on Facebook, I hope that answers of fair amount of your questions and I wish you the absolute best if you have any others feel free to reach out to me if you reach out to me on here more than likely it won’t get seen because KZfaq prioritize comments . I recommend you don’t buy it if you don’t already own it I’m using a Maxis SYS it was about $7000 you can however try to remove the battery regulator and just put the ground wire on the post that may work for you

Well something is getting a signal when you’re holding the key in the start position and that it is not getting the same signal when you let the key off I’ve never experienced that problem but it should be easy for most mechanics to determine what is happening sorry I wish I had a better explanation than that and could be of more help

And soon it will leave you stranded wherever you stop at costing you a lot more money after a tow and needing to get it fixed immediately your Start control module is going out it will not last

07 A6 I have, things that work are, door locks, let in ignition charm with milage lights, truck, radio, tail lights when headlights are on (no headlights) brake lights, high beams and flashers all work. Nothing else has power. What do you think is the problem? Steering column switches?

Maybe your battery is dead I know all of your lights are coming on but that still a possibility Your starter could be bad Or your engine could be locked up worst case scenario of course .....

@@sharpcarco it's been awhile....still not start with the key but we were able to jump start the starter and crank the car but no gears show up on the dash and car doesn't move. Any ideas?

My question would be did you replace the relay? I can tell from your message that you replace the switches but the relay is also very important as well

@@sharpcarco I have replaced all 3 micro switches including the relay. A few minutes ago i Tried to crank it nothing happens, and was getting start auth error, cleared the codes, started with a key ignition lock error, and points to ignition switch 415 Guess I will have to get a new ignition switch

Update: All has turned to the worst!!! Didn't change the ignition switch, as I am currently locked out, immobilizer, preventing the ignition to recognize the key and let me undo the alarm with the key fob. Im stuck. Big issue now is to power the modules and the wake up procedure is not working that great?? sad!!!😒

I couldn’t tell you exactly what is causing that but that is a limp mode . the car is doing that too make sure you don’t damage something that is broken, A scan should tell you what you need to do

Most likely ignition coils and spark plugs need to be replaced.

Start control module. In a later video I take to Start control module out and rebuild it so this never happens again. Let me know if you want to ship me yours I’ll fix it for good.

@@sharpcarco will it help if i disable ELV, or just cut the wire for steering lock ? heard a6 c6 does the trick with that?

Oh yeah, I could never get that trick to work one time i I tried that and I ended up having to replace the F5 module. It cost me $1300. But you can try whatever you want.

More than likely either The sensor is bad or the parking brake is actually sick I don’t remember the procedure but when it’s stuck there is a procedure for releasing it electronically sorry it’s been a while since I did it

That’s a poor connection on the relay of the Start control module circuit board. It’s gonna leave you stranded one day.

I’ve tried a lot of different scanners the only ones that will work is a vadcom or a very high-level scanner…

Well the unfortunate part is I would have to be very vague in answering this question but if it won’t run any longer than 10 minutes you may have a timing issue but it could really be 100 different things unfortunately I would recommend taking it to a service shop generally they only charge about $75 to do an inspection and find out what the problem is sorry I wish I could be of more help

Well generally when you have this problem you need a new battery . Then you’re able to reset it and you probably don’t need any more service without the scan tool you cannot reset it

Clay Rogers trunk was was water so i search here clear air wholes no water was in car since battery light was on we replace with borcsh and new alternator safe sixe still light on drives like new test pushing 12.4/12.8 should be 14v what can be issue or what 2 check?

Once you replace the battery you have to have it reset unfortunately the only way that I know how to reset it is with my scanner just like I show in the video

You need to be 100% certain that your battery is fully charged it sounds like it’s dead to me maybe you have a blown fuse underneath the seat or near the battery itself if it’s located in the rear. Well that’s pretty simple I have video on showing you how to fix it look underneath my Audi playlist on my channel page.

The starter was no good, that and both 614 fuses blew out and now the car cranks better than I first brought it. The 614 fuse in the middle control the ignition coils, so if that goes bad the car will crank, but not start.

@@AgentZero88 thanks for the info. So you did need a new starter then along with the fuses. How many miles on the car? I got 126k

@@NMEofdaST8 yes, my starter was rusted and I replaced it. Those fuses are super important, I brought extras just to keep in the trunk for emergencies. I was told those fuses aren't supposed to go bad EVER, but I had the ECU cover off for 3 weeks and leaves clogged the drain then water built up. Fuses blew when I reconnected the battery.

Sorry , No it was not. it was the start control module I rebuild them now for people all over the country. I was the first person in the world to show people how to repair them. Now people send them to me from everywhere. They all go bad. 2200.00 from dealership or 30.00 using THE CLAY WAY.... And they will last the rest of the life of car
