This video documents how I repaired a common audi q7 fault were the wiper pops out of the ball joint during use leaving at most, one operational window wiper. I am not a mechanic and take no responsibility for any damage or injury caused by anyone attempting this procedure. if your unsure its best to let the professionals do the work. If the seller is happy, I will soon provide a link to the eBay item I purchased for this repair. Thanks to the repair ball joint kit, this was a very cheap yet permanent repair. Thanks tones! I did not have the strength to loosed the nuts on the passenger side, and was able to complete the repair (in a less than perfect fashion) without removing the linkage. You saved me between 600 - $2200 CAD since the local Audi dealership wanted to replace the entire linkage/motor assembly (1700. part), and a local garage wanted $550 plus taxes to install a used linkage.

Thanks for this video. I just did this on a friend's car, and found that you can do the job without even removing the passenger side connection. I just lifted the linkage over the edge of the firewall and swung the driver's end out over the engine. A drop cloth was used to catch the filings, and once the new cup was installed, I swung the linkage back under the windshield and clipped it into place.

Thanks mate, just got the kit and did same fix, bit fiddly but you can do it without removing the arm. much better spending 2k on replacing it all as Audi tried to con me into

Good stuff glad you got sorted. Several years down the line I still have no issues with the wipers. Think that little kit provides a permanent solution.

Thanks you help me so much. I am in Africa having problem with my Q7 wiper keep coming up you really give me in idea how to deal with the problem. But here in my country we don't have some of the car parts and also no Ebay or Amazon here so is not easy to order parts 😕 this is the problems I am facing here.

Great work as usual! Any chance of a video showing how to unblock the window pipes on any car? Cleared the mechanism at the top but something clearly further down too!

That little kit actually fixed mine permanently. Haven't had any issues since. Without that kit I don't think I could have bodged a repair quite so well.

What exactly was the effect of the worn out ball joint! Was the range of motion for the wiper arm effected? We have an 2013 Audi Q7 that broke passenger side (left hand driver) wiper arm. The new wiper hits the side of the windshields molding which suspect eventually broke the wiper arm. No one has addressed why the arm broke in the first place…. Doesn’t make sense why it broke except that the wipers actually rotate by extending first then across the windshield…

Because mine is a UK model the passenger side wiper arm does not rise up against the side of the window (mine rises up to the middle so it cannot hit the edge). It was the driver side that broke on mine and the effect was that the ball joint popped out during operation leaving the driver side wiper separated from the mechanism and totally stationary whilst the passenger side wiper kept working as normal. On a rainy day it was a nightmare as with only the passenger side wiper operating I could not see out the window so could not drive the car until I repaired it. The little repair kit is awesome and saved me a fortune from potentially having to buy a new wiper mechanism.

Just on my way. To the lakes and got this exact problem - I did bodge it with a drilled hole bolt and washer but will do this as looks a better job did you post the link because I couldn’t find it - let me know thanks

Sorry the ebay seller said he was re listing items and that he would send me the new link, but then he never bothered sending me the new link. If you do a search you will find it as there are only a couple of people selling these ball joint kits. Hope you get sorted.

If you have the same problem as I had then this fix should work. I was in the same boat and could only buy the whole linkage, which is ridiculous when I only needed a new ball joint / arm. The repair in this video is still working perfectly now and works as good as new. Extremely cheap for those parts online compared to buying the whole linkage assembly.

Hi would this give off a rattle sound like suspension arms have gone?

With mine I cannot remember any noises but any time it rained it popped out of the ball joint almost straight away when I used the wipers.
