Great video. The bolt that worked for me was at Home depot. the Capri brand triple square socket 3/8 50mm. Cost $2.97. Spent about 5-6 mins back and forth with the penetrating oil before greasing it up. Works like a charm now! Thanks for posting.

I have an Audi a6 2012, the steering wheel movement is good, but when turning right or left, it makes a rubbing sound or something like that, what is the reason
@davidmurphy62294 жыл бұрын
Just performed this on my 2014 Audi Q5 - Video is spot on. One change I made ... I did not remove the joint. I sprayed the penetrating oil while a friend turned the wheel back and forth. Then I cleaned up the oil and added grease. Smooth turning now. If you have access to a lift this is an option.

So you just went under your vehicle and did it without the use of a lift? Asking because I don’t have access to a lift and was wondering if it can be done without.

I replaced my battery because it was 6 years old and acid was coming out from the battery in different places of the battery I heard when the battery is low or faulty it can affect the electric steering but my problem was still there. Thank you for this clear and to the point video! My 2013 A4 had the same problem but not always and not as bad as this one. Mine wasn't as rusted as in this video.... I sprayed it down with WD40, loosened the bold and took the U-joint off. After a few times going back and forth it already loosened up. I cleaned the joint with breake cleaner and prayed it again with some WD40 before covering it with grease. It worked! Hope it stays like that :-)
@EDGEMOTORS5 жыл бұрын
You should not use wd40 for permanent lubing... it’s water based... it may promote seizing up...
@jochenpaulissen5 жыл бұрын
@@EDGEMOTORS I hope the grease will prevent this!. We'll see, it's an easy job so It I feel a notch again, I'll redo it. This is a bad design though, Audi should have put a rubber boot over the joint or something...

I have similar issue and I been turning the steering wheel all the way to the right, then go from the front and spray some lubricants or wd4. That would work for a month then back to same issue again. I was wondering if you can extend the life by retrofiting a boot after you losen the bottom bracket? would that work? why or why not? willing to hear what others have tried?
@EDGEMOTORS4 жыл бұрын
You have to grease it really good. And make sure it is covered in grease. FYI wd40 is water based... so at first it lubes, but then might promote oxidation. And you have to do what was done in the video... turning steering wheel right and left will not do the trick.
