Hi! On this video you mention that in older computers with USB 3 ports you need a camera adapter kit and a powered USB hub; but on "How to set up an Audient iD4 MkII Audio Interface" you mention just a USB A to C cable. Is the latter option enough? What would you recommend? Thanks.
@Audientworld
@Audientworld 3 жыл бұрын
Apologies if there has been any confusion. A Camera Connector kit and active USB hub is only required on iPad's which use the lightening port. If the iD4 MKII is connected to a PC with USB3.0 ports then just a USB A-C cable can be used.

Hi! Can you record a guitar and vocal at the same time? Does have a software mixer the same as ID14?
@Audientworld
@Audientworld 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Yes you can record using the Mic Input and the Instrument Input at the same time. And no, it doesn't have a software mixer because all the routing functionality can be controlled on the unit itself, so it isn't needed.

I have had the Id4 MK2 for 6 months and am very impressed. I bought some DT990 pro headphones which run at 250ohms. They are a fair bit quieter than my 64 ohm previous headphones. Will a headphone amp improve sound quality? They go loud enough when I crank it but wondering if a preamp will make a difference. Thanks
@Audientworld
@Audientworld 2 жыл бұрын
It's difficult to say as sound quality is quite subjective. A headphone amp will give you more volume from the headphones but you might get a slightly different frequency response compared to the iD4's headphone output.

Hi, Great video to explain the features. Will this work stand alone (as a mixer) without the computer using a power bank or external charger? The MOTU M2 and M4 have stand alone functions. Can we connect the left and right outputs of a guitar effects processor to the ID4 to get stereo output from the processor?
@Audientworld
@Audientworld 3 жыл бұрын
Its not designed to be used as a standalone unit but you can power it from a USB connection and use is as a pre-amp. It may not be suitable for stereo applications as you only have one line input and 1 DI input and you'll probably see a tonal difference between your left and right channels.

It's not designed to be used as a line input but can be used as one in a pinch, you will need to carefully balance the gains of the two inputs to get a balanced stereo field.

@Audientworld

The slightly higher headphone headroom is only available when using a USB-C connection as this will provide the additional current required. However, the headphone headroom when using USB3.0 will still be more than enough for most applications and headphones.

Hey there. Have a question regarding the headphone impedance. I have Audio Technica Ath m50x and Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X. Both of em has an impedance below 50ohm. I read in some forums that it changes the frequency response and might damage the drivers. Will such thing happen. Planning to buy the iD4 soon. Also is the Mkiii series coming anytime soon. If yes then would love to wait❤
@Audientworld
@Audientworld 2 ай бұрын
It certainly won't damage the headphone's drivers under normal use. The frequency response may be altered slightly but the impedance relationship between a headphone and the amp is fairly complex so some headphones will be affected more than others. We've used both the M50x's and DT990's with the iD4 and they've both sounded good and detailed!

If the synth has an unbalanced output then it can be connected to the JFET DI input. Otherwise, if it has balanced line level outputs, I would reccomend using the line inputs on the rear of the device.

Hey Audient, question, I need only 1 preamp so the id4 would be perfect but I want the highest possible quality for recording vocals and also for mixing, is the converters and the preamp in the id4 mkii better then the id22 for recording and mixing quality? I don’t mind paying 800 bucks for an id22 for higher quality sound but it would be extremely useless since I only need 1 input, hope you guys reply, thank you
@Audientworld

The iD4 MKII does have slightly better specs than the iD22 due to it's AD/DA upgrade. If you only need one mic input then the iD4 MKII would be the best choice.

Cubasis is included with both the iD4 and the EVO 4. If you ever need to record stereo inputs, the EVO 4 may be the better choice as it includes two pre-amps rather than the one of the iD4. Can I use both headphone output Jack's at the same time? For example if I wanted to monitor with my studio headphones but use the second jack to connect to the microphone input on my nikon dslr camera to record a song? Alternatively can you play through your studio monitors and thought the headphone jack into a camera at the same time?
@Audientworld
@Audientworld Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can use both at the same time, however they are both affected by the same headphone volume so your DSLR will get the same level as your headphones which may not be ideal. Similarly, the speaker outputs are fed from the same amp so adjusting your speaker level will also affect the level being sent to your DSLR. If you need more control over your outputs then an interface with more outputs such as the EVO 8 or the iD14 MKII would be ideal.

Hello, i have a question regarding the Audient ID4 MKII, can it fully drive a 250 OHM headphones (DT770), because I heard from voice artists that they might need an amp?

The iD4 MKII can drive a pair of DT770 250 Ohms for most listening and monitoring situations. If you do need a lot of output level for your headphones, for example, you're monitoring in a loud environment or are listing back to quiet recordings then you may want a separate amp but for most setups, you shouldn't need an amp.

In theory this is possible but it wouldn't be possible to monitor the wet signal via the iD4 at the same time because the line outputs and headphones are fed from the same DAC so you would only hear the dry signal being sent to the Strymon.

Hi there, full specs and features for both are available on their respective product pages so you are able to make a direct comparison. Take a look at audient.com/iD4 and evo.audio/EVO8 for more info! As a brief overview, EVO 8 will give you more inputs and outputs, and has Smartgain to automatically set your inputs, however iD4 has better audio specs so you will have slightly improved audio quality. iD4 also uses our Audient console mic preamp and has ScrollControl, however has fewer inputs and outputs. They are both great devices, it depends really on what features you need! If you have any specific questions, don't hesitate to ask!

If I'm only recording one thing at the time and only listening through it on my own (headphones or monitors) is it any reason to pick up the id14 instead or is it only a waste of money? Couldn't some features of the software mixer be beneficial also for the id4? Like see the input/output levels? Are all the input/output specifications exactly the same otherwise (same quality in recording and monitor/headphone output)? I thought so but for example the headphone specification differs and made me wonder. From Audient homepage: Headphone output - Frequence response: id4: ±0.1dB 10Hz to 40kHz id14: ±0.25dB 10Hz to 40kHz Even if the above is the case, I know it's not hearable but still wonder why there's a difference at all if they should be the same.

If you're only recording a single input and just using headphones the iD4 is great! You can monitor the input and output of the iD4's LED meters using Monitor Mix control to adjust what the meters are showing. In real world use, the iD4 and the iD14 have the exact same sound and basically the same specs. I would choose based on the features you need rather than small differences in specs as both will give great sounding audio

If I use the outputs of this interface and run them into a headphone amp (Topping L30) do I have to worry about the impedance if I have headphones with lows ohms? I don't know if the impedance works the same way with the outputs, or is it just the headphone socket? Thanks in advance.

The iD4 isn't really designed for stereo inputs. You can connect the left channel to Mic/Line input o the rear and the right channel to the Instrument input on the front. You then need to make careful adjustments to the gains to match the levels of the two inputs, you will also have some tonal difference between the two inputs so this may not be ideal.

Dear Audient, can id4 store the last volume adjustment after power is cut off (S4 deep shutdown PC, with power off to USB ports) or do I always have to adjust volume again? Sending PC to normal S3-shutdown is a solution, but there is 20W power consuption all time then. Work on more reliable drivers, especially focus on wake up after (deep states) standby. The device often loses its outputs after wakeup and PC reboot or pulling USB jack are the only solutions. For mkiii a power on/off switch and seperate Volume knob for headset output would be nice. A 2nd Micinput 3,5mm audio jack 4 pole is a must for PC headset with mic. Streamers would love it. Automatic Mic in Level calibration would be nice to. And more easy software for PC configuration, Loop-back mixer is to complicated. And a much better and finer level indicator. Price it 50% higher and then it´s an ideal tool for streamers too.

I'd like to record a line signal from a TE Op-1. Is there a possibility to record a stereo signal? also, is there the risk that the 48v phantom could be triggered by mistake and produce damage to the unit connected to line input?
@Audientworld
@Audientworld 3 жыл бұрын
The only way you could record a stereo signal is to make use of both the Mic/Line and DI inputs at the same time which can cause some balance issues so we typically advice against stereo inputs on the iD4. If you connect the OP-1 to the iD4 using 1/4" jacks then it will be safe as the iD4 cannot feed phantom power to TRS jacks, only XLR cables.

It would be better to connect it to the line input on the rear as the DI is designed for lower level guitar signals. Bare in mind the inputs are mono so you'd need to use the mono output of the Keyboard, not the combined stereo outputs, using a TS 1/4" jack should ensure this.

Just got mine today, but I'm disappointed that the headphone monitor function doesn't work at all with the headphones plugged into the Audient. My Mac is set to the Audient ID4 input/output, and although I can record to an application through the Audient, I can't hear myself at all. This would be even worse if I tried to use this for remote podcasting (I can't hear my guest, much less myself) and also would be terrible if I was trying to record a guitar into line input 2 because you can't hear what you're doing! Doesn't matter how loud I turn the monitors, it doesn't work. Too bad, the noise floor is pretty quiet. But I can only hear it if I plug headphones directly into the Mac, which sounds very reverby in my headphones while I'm recording, but sounds OK in playback after I stop recording. Is this normal and expected performance for your products -- why did you put a headphone jack on it if the headphones don't work?

@Audientworld
@Audientworld 3 жыл бұрын
The price difference simply come down to the addtional pre-amps, the additional channels of high quality conversion the optical inputs and then of course all the circuity required to control all of this. The JFET we use allows us to have a high input impedance on the DI input and gives a nice subtle warmth. There may possibly be MOSFET's that would do the same job but we liked the way the JFET sounded.
