funnily enough they did it with sarah in 20 minutes too! then bill and frank and sam and henry in less than an hour, and the way they do it is phenomenal. they really cracked the code on making you care so quickly also i have to mention how everyone, in their reactions, are VERY aware of how the story ends every time. theyre always so cautious, and hell i went into this episode fully aware of the ending from the game. but they STILL somehow convinced me it might be ok this time. so the whole giving you hope and ripping it away is really important to the way they're constructing the plot.

Yup because this isn't the game where we can see our main characters get brutalized by zombies and just restart. I really think they're depending on aiming that violence towards the side characters to make up for it
@chattycatty3336
@chattycatty3336 Жыл бұрын
I think this is why the bloaters (the really big zombie) are so strong. Human beings are actually capable of A LOT, theres been people lift cars before because they were saving someone, and the reason we are able to do that, is because our adrenaline causes an override in our brain. See the reason we cant lift cars on a normal basis, is because our brain KNOWS it will tear our body down really fast, so it puts limits on how much we can do before becoming exausted to protect itself from over exertion. So my theory is that when the fungus infects someone, its slowly shutting all of those protective functions down. The bloater is able to beat people down like theyre nothing, because its brain cant tell it to hold back (Super complicated way of explaining it, but i hope it made sense) Also yes, the clickers use ecolocation to get around lol
@inesblancogonzalez1852
@inesblancogonzalez1852 Жыл бұрын
Yay, knowing that the fungus can literally control the brain and being increasing its power thorugh time makes a lot of sense thinking that they could just be really powerful in humans. If we keep pushing our bodies for too long, we have different methods to stop and give us some rest (like fainting, for example). But if we have something that keeps that energy constantly, like the fungus web, it could be just unstoppable

Watching you cry made me cry even harder the first time 😭 the writing was so good, that even though I’ve played the game and know how it ends, I still wanted to believe that what Ellie did with Sams leg would work. Sadly, it went the way it did from the game, and I still cried…
@Amozon28
@Amozon28 Жыл бұрын
As sad as henry and sam are, narratively theyre meant to be a warning to joel. Last episode joel started bonding with ellie, snd henry comments in this episode that he thought he was her dad/that he was someones. Showing that joel has softened a lot sibce ep 1-3. Henrys ending is a warning to joel, that Joel will not survive losing another daughter, hes not strong enough. Which also sets the tone for the rest of the season. That joel WILL protect ellie, no matter what

FEDRA was intended for good cause. But the more disconnected each QZ got from each other, the less the rules would be applied in a particular QZ, Kansas City went full on "We are the ranchers, you are the cattle. We take and do what we want, you don't have a say." kind of attitude (at least as presented here) Neither Henry nor Sam had ammunition when they ambushed Joel and Ellie. Depending what ammunition their guns use, Joel might have ammunition to share. 12:19-12:23 "Don't waste all the paper though" There's no paper. It's a toy my parents bought me when I was a kid that at the time cost like $0.75 It's an opaque sheet of plastic with a semi-adhesive black surface behind it. When you press on it, the plastic film sticks to the black surface and you can see the black through it. Each time you lift the film, it separates until pressure is applied again. It's basically a doodling/drawing toy for young kids to discourage them drawing on walls and such, while allowing them to draw as much as they want. Downside is, lift the sheet, the work of art is gone. Upside is, very re-usable for writing notes in this situation. (well, by the end of the episode you caught up.. Don't think yourself dumb for not realizing what it was, apparently they were not "everywhere" just in almost every store I was a kid in, so I apparently hounded my parents for one. You're far from the first reactor to *not* realize that. Most who comment on it don't include a moment in which they realize) 16:51-16:56 "If they were leaving, why kill them?" Although part of this is answered in a few moments, and it's partially been answered already... I just have to. Everyone is following Kathleen's orders. Kathleen doesn't want Henry to escape, she wants him dead for betraying her brother to FEDRA, who beat him to death. She wants Joel dead because of the people he killed (even though they started the fight), and Kathleen is totally aware her brother didn't want her seeking revenge, and she's flat out unhinged. When someone yells "Run" from a long distance away, all you can hear is the yell, not what they are saying. Notice how muted his voice is when he initially yells "Run"? There's a car blocking much of the sound from his voice. Until they stand up for a clearer communication, they probably didn't know what he was saying, and of them only Ellie is likely to recognize Joel's yell. The really big infected, if you look at the closing credits you'll find the name of it. I don't know if you'd consider it a spoiler. So I won't say the name. But I will say it's an absolute brute (in show and in game) The child clicker entering the vehicle Ellie was in, gave me a lot of "Ring" and "The Grudge" vibe The assumption people make about Ellie's immunity (outside the show, in the audience) is the same that Ellie makes. "My blood is medicine" It may be an element in her blood, it may be a specific genetic component. What if the genetic component that makes one more likely to suffer from cancer, or anemia, or pancreatic failure is the key. Not something in the blood its self, but a specific genetic trait. This would still need her as the source to isolate it, but would require genetic therapy rather than a simple "inoculation" or even a blood transfusion. It is good that the "smearing the blood on a bite" doesn't work, because you'd want to use it all the time to help people, but it only takes one person to talk about seeing it or being the recipient of it, to turn Ellie into a high bounty target across very unfavorable groups.

Sort of. In the game, during the opening credit sequence, you learn that FEDRA was formed after a military coup in the US where the Army took over the government and (presumably) killed the civilian government. They were fascists from the beginning, though the supposed reason that this happened was so that the Army could do the things that are "necessary" but unforgivable that politicians would never agree to, such as bombing cities.

First off, Contortionist Clicker Girl is awesome. It was just an unexpected bit of "personality" for an infected that I got a kick out of. Second, I've seen comments in several places that say that Kathleen isn't a bad person, and in fact is very much like Joel. I scanned through the comments here and was glad not to see that take again. I'm with you on the Kathleen hate train. You said it best. She thinks the world revolves around her. Her brother was killed, and that's sad. I might even be able to see that as a fair reason (during the apocalypse) to kill Henry in retaliation. Refusing to let the kids go if Henry gives himself up is terrible, but given that she's a bit obsessed, I can even understand (but not approve of) that. But then there's the part where she already killed a doctor and one or two dozen "collaborators" also in pursuit of Henry. Henry traded one life to save his brother's life, and that's not a good thing. Kathleen has killed at least ten (or had them killed) before even finding the attic Henry and Sam were hiding in. It was a pleasure to watch Contortionist Clicker Girl leap on her.

Yeah now that I finished the season I guess I could see how people would say that… buuut, when Joel initially lost his daughter I know he did things but I don’t think he went on a vengeful killing spree… I really despised her, the whole town was in danger cause of that sinking ground but she covered it up just to do what she wanted… nah…

Even as amazingly done in the series as it is, in the game is even better. Won't spoil it (although it's very very similar) but the music, the way Henry behaves after shooting and the fade to black to "Autumn" is so strong that the series couldn't match it. But even so as I said it's an amazing recreation like all the series, best adaptation of a videogame by hundreds of miles.

tbh i think holding on Ellie's reaction is a much stronger bit of storytelling than the smash cut to the seasonal card in the game. Yeah, it hits hard, but it makes it a showy moment ABOUT how hard its hitting you rather than the actual characterisation
@CommanderNam
@CommanderNam Жыл бұрын
Oh hell no, cutting to ellie's reaction is so much more powerful and this is coming from somebody who loves the game. Ellie's attempt at healing him misleading the audience into a false hope only to crush it down is so much better. Even henry's line of "What did I do" is wayy better than "What have you done?"

Ellie and Joel switch sides at the end. That was the Tess moment from episode 2. Ellie runs ahead while Joel is still waiting at the grave. Tess gave Joel a mission he wanted to fulfill as her last wish. The relationship that Joel had with Tess was similar to Ellie and Sam. Ellie promised Sam the cure here and couldn't keep this promise. She now wants to make sure that this never happens again. As Tess said at the time "save who you can save". Ellie really has a mission now. Indirectly get through her feelings of guilt. She wants her blood to work. Before that, she was someone who had no control over anything. Others have determined where she grows up and where she has to go now. Now that has changed. Now conviction plays a role and she takes control. She wants to save the world so that there are no more Sam's. And while Joel gradually finds his humanity again and lets people into his life again, Ellie loses a little more of herself and she takes the lead here in the end. I think the series showed that more clearly in this way than the game did. In addition, Ellie and Joel have reached a new level of connection with each other. Wordless understanding. Both wanted to save the brothers during the attack. That wasn't Joel's "don't do it Ellie" look. That was the look "I'll give you fire protection Ellie". And Ellie has absolute confidence in Joel. There was also a little joke about the game. The moment when the sniper shot and Henry and Sam senselessly ran out of cover, only to return immediately. This is how Ellie behaved very often in the game. She ran out of cover, right in front of the enemy and then back again.

If you follow the show creators and the story creator from the game you understand the story narrative. This is a tragedy. Every episode is going to be sad. The human race is done. The hint is the title "The Last of Us" This is a story about how love keeps us together in hard times and how that same love with doom us all. That is all wrapped in a zombie narrative. In zombie narratives the message is humans are the true monsters and the creators of their own doom. So the happy episode as Neil Druckmann said was episode 3. I hate to tell you if episode 3 was the happy episode then this whole story is just going to end bad. Keep your tissues out. In tragedies all choices are bad and the ends are always sad. Look at this episode like this: "Everyone did all they did for love, and now they are all dead." Love is the story. It is neither good or bad. It is just what drives everything we do and what also might doom us.
