That's awesome. I really wanted to know what the Scarlett 2i2 looked like in the Ableton Live. With that in mind, I think I will get the Scarlett Solo because it will be connected to a mixer via an XLR.

Very informative video thx. Question do you have a video that shows you using the same set up but adding your Zoom L 12 and MPC 2.8 or earlier MPC Software in the Set Up? The reason I ask is because I'm shopping for a new interface with multiple inputs and that could work well with MPC 2.8 and Cubase Elements 10.5. At the moment I'm not sure should I just get the Focusrite 8i6 or should I get a Mixing Board with a Audio Interface (which I do plan on adding in my studio along with a Universal Audio Interface in the furture) I'v been using the MPC Live as my current Audio Interface and with the upgrade to the MPC Software and Firmware with 2.8 I maybe able to hold off buying the 8i6 and continue with my plan of working to add the Universal and Mixing Board to my Studio in the new furture. With the MPC having these improvements it only aids me more when I take it on the road.

Matthew this video was right on time. I'm trying to setup my MPC Live so I can screenrecord. I think I may need to connect my interface so the sound will show up in OBS. I've been using the MPC Live as my interface but now I want to screenrecord and share.

You're MPC Live may show up as an interface if you keep it in controller mode.

Hello. Thanks for the comment! Are you looking for information on streaming a whole band or a dj set? Yeah, I rather like the L12. Are you using it as an interface or a stand alone recorder at all?

Matthew Stratton Ideally, a band livestreaming set, but i'd imagine either type of video would have lots of good information that'd overlap with general good tips. As for the L-12, I initially used it as a stand-alone recorder, but found the recording section to be somewhat tedious to use. Now, i connect the mixer to my laptop or even my phone, and sometimes record simultaneously on the L-12 only as a failsafe.

A HUGE difference between mixers and USB interfaces, is the ability to handle STEREO inputs via 1/8" or 1/4" TRS cables. A few months ago I bought a MOTU M4, only to be severely disappointed that the two 1/4" inputs in the back, can ONLY ACCEPT LINE LEVEL signals, and NOT signals from Cell Phones or Tablets. The Audio Out from a mixer is an example of a Line Level out. If someone has a mixer and wants to record the output on a DAW in a computer, they need a USB interface, UNLESS the mixer, like my Mackie ProFX6V3, has USB out. But it is only a 2 channel USB. So I could record Microphone and Guitar, BUT NOT a microphone and a stereo audio backing track. Need 4 USB channels for that. It is March 2021, and the Audient EVO 8 comes to the rescue in such a situation; 4 Combo inputs. I just got this device a couple of weeks ago, and vouch that it is excellent. However, the Mic signals are weak. With reverb and Echo on in my DAW (Cakewalk) though, the sound is grand! Strange! You can plug in a cellphone signal real nice using a split 1/8" TRS to twin 1/4" TS cables.

Hi Mat, Could you please help, I want to rehearse at my home studio with 2 other guys, guitar, keys and myself drums, I need 3 separate headphone mixes from logic as I will be playing with click, my question is what audio interface do I need to do this, I only have stereo output at the moment. Would a 6 channel interface do the job and can you recommend one please, I presume I will also need a headphone splitter, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.Paul

Say I have an audio interface/microphone on my Mac, can I use 1/4" line out to 1/4" line in to a different audio interface connected to my PC? That way my Mac's microphone also becomes my PC's microphone.

Cool. That is an advantage the MPC Live has is the 6 outs. You can run a couple outputs through something like the sp 404 and use its effects and then run that into an interface.

I heard that some audio interfaces, like the tascam us 20x20 works with the mpc live - so you could connect it via usb and got more inputs into the mpc live.. have you tried something like that?

I so appreciate how you did multi-channel recording and did split the instrumental into 5 different instruments with each having a recognized channel. QUESTION IS: Where does the MPC gets its sounds from? Is it a device just containing demos?

The MPC is a Music Production Center. Yes, it has demos, but the idea is that you can program your own music into it.

Because I didn't have my MPC Live synced so the setting the tempo isn't relevant in this situation. I simply wanted to demonstrate how the inputs of an audio interface show up in Ableton Live. Is it correct to assume that the more inputs into your DAW means more memory/processing power needed by your computer? #LatencyIsAMofo.

It is correct to assume more inputs equates to more processing power needed. This is why in the ableton live settings it is recommended to deactivate inputs you are not using. There is a list of variables to equate to latency though. Sample rate, buffer size, and the actual drivers from the manufacturer to name a few.

Hello. I like using Ableton Live because it is simple to set up and use. I have tested out many over time like, Cubase, EnergyXT, Pro Tools 12, FL Studio (then called Fruity Loops), Logic Pro, Garageband, a few others. Ableton has a fairly straight forward layout and it is very easy to setup audio interfaces, midi controllers, and VST folders. Once you are making music there are not a ton of pop up windows you have to keep track of. It also has powerful warping capabilities.

Layman with a Tascam DP02 here who's on the verge of buying either an interface or a small usb mixer... : When you're in your software naming 'inputs' do you mean 'virtual tracks' or at some time do you intend to have 6 different instruments plugged in all at the same time? I think of inputs as physically plugging something in, or virtually assigning inputs so it's pointing to the correct port. When I see you creating 'inputs' and naming them, it seems the term 'input' is being used instead of the term 'track'? Not sure about this, so I have to ask for clarification: Are those things you're creating & naming in the software, 'tracks'? Like, in Protools, Track 1 (gtr 1), Track 2 (gtr 2), Track 3 (Bass), Track 4 (lead)... hope this makes sense. Everything seems to be termed input. I imagine the input as the 'signal' (be it bass, guitar, drum machine, etc) plugged in & being sent into the software (thus being inputted), and the 'created track' is what you capture & record the inputted signal on. I'm sure all this will make more sense over time but the flood of terms seems overwhelming. Sigh. I hope this chaotic mess of a question makes sense. ~ Thank you

The Audio Line-In jacks on the BACK of the the 4 input Audio Interfaces, like an MOTU M4 or a Scarlett 4i4: well, they CAN NOT take a signal from a cell phone's headphone audio out or a tablet/iPad's headphone audio out. It is to be a LINE LEVEL VOLTAGE. Like from a mixer or a synth or some such device. To summarize, a headphone out and line level out are entirely different animals! :) I welcome corrections to this, but I did experiment. I plugged in a 1/8 inch to a split 1/4" cable and plugged it into the back of a Motu M4. The input signal was barely audible and unusable. Line level - Wikipedia

Yes, consumer level line output is lower than professional line level output. That being said when I plug an iPad headphone out into my line in on the back of my Apollo x6 I get a usable level. There is such a low level of noise on the inputs that I can boost the signal of the audio and still get a good sounding signal. Guess it depends on what you want to do. If I wanted to sample from my iPad I could do it easily. If I wanted to broadcast I would need to either use the inputs with the preamp so that I could boost the signal coming into the interface or use my broadcasting software to boost the signal if using the inputs on the back. I would imagine that the Motu M4 and the Scarlett 4i4 would be the same.

@@OnlineMD Maybe. But, the signal is still low and if you want to use it live probably not useful. When I connect my iPad to my Apollo x6 rear inputs it peaks at around -17 in my software.

That can be an option. It really depends on which interface you have. If you have line in options on the front of your interface, then sure. Yes, TRS 1/4 inch cables.

No doubt. Universal Audio has special offers every now and a gain where they may bundle other things with it. For example I got a free UAD02 Satellite when I purchased mine.

There is only 1 headphone output on the Scarlett 2i2. You can try something like a headphone amplifier.

Of course, more data is used, but accordingly: Data is infinite, or says so via science and postings, or is this another fabricated and/or deceptive attempt as others who post comments of fabrication and deceptive assumptions and theory.

The problem I had with this video is that... you assumed everybody already knows how to setup the output on the mpc live, that's the only steps yet critical steps you missed.
