Gregor, this is something that takes a while to get down right, especially if you are like me, using quite a few tracks, and quite a few plugins on guitars, vocals, drums, piano, etc. I wrestled with it for awhile, but I think I have found a viable method for my work. Thanks, very helpful

Really helpful, Gregor, thank you! Coming from ather DAWs and still needing to use them occasionally, I assumed that dropout protection simply disabled some of the highest CPU hungry devices when the load got too high. Therefore, I was a little confused the other day when I noticed the effect of some plug-ins could still be heard, even though their activation icon had turned green. I guess if I’d read the manual, I could’ve found that out for myself but you’ve just done the work for me. Top quality information as usual.👍🙂

@@perrythomasmusic3709 I've actually tried it, even got the blue z mode and even tho I can play with minimal latency on block size 64 and max dropout protection my cpu goes really high so unfortunately it's not really useful for me.. Luckily my audio interface has this "bug" that allows me to play through standalone vst host such as BC Patchworks with minimal buffer size while having a really big and heavy latency session open in S1 with max buffer size so it's even better for me than the method of this blue z or green z modes I was curios if I could manage it to work to ditch the BC Patchworks to play in real time with the session's (mix ready) tones instead of having a slight difference chain while tracking

I have a few hardware devices that allow Audio and MIDI via USB. This is, of course, way more convenient than having to hook up everything with individual TRS and DIN MIDI cables to run them via Interface. However, the only option to address multiple devices I've run across so far is using the Asio4all driver. The problem with that is that I can only set one device block size for all of my I/O devices. I had no problem running my Interface at device block size 64 samples with medium dropout protection, but running it through Asio4all requires a higher device block size to run smoothly. Are there other, more elegant solutions to this? I love being able to send Audio to and from my hardware via dedicated outputs and sequencing them with Studio One, but I'd love to do it without the drawback of giving up on true low latency monitoring of, say, my Microphone or guitar inputs.

Hi Gregor. I love wathing your videos. Always very informative and a good balance between pace and detail. One question about this topic. If I set the Device Block size low (say 64 samples) to keep the recording monitoring latency low, If I set the Process Block Size high for plalayback devices, would the tracks on playback (previously recorded instuments etc.) be delayed due to higher latency compared to the low latency reecording monitoring? That is, will I listed to the other track out of time and then record a new track at low latecy, causing the new track and the already existing tracks to be slightly out of time with each other?
@presonus
@presonus Жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, thanks for your kind words! Rest assured that monitoring latency offsets are completely compensated, no matter which Block Size / Dropout Protection setting you choose. Meaning, anything that you record will be timed just like it was during the recording process. -GBY

Thanks Gregor. I have a really slow computer, and What I've been doing is just recording with no distortion, reverb or other plug ins, and I get no noticeable lag. Am I missing something other than the benefit of hearing my sound processors as I record? I don't understand why everyone doesnt do this, accept that they want to hear the finished sound from the start. Thanks

This is totally unrelated to this video but I have a question about my ATOM midi controller. When I have an instrument track up and a pad is showing on screen, if I press a virtual pad with my mouse the sound assigned to that pad sounds off. If I hit the same pad with my ATOM midi controller the assigned sound comes up but also a keyboard sound comes up with it. In other words Im getting two sounds and pressing only 1 pad (example : I have an instrument track with a preset Drums. works great if I hit the virtual pads but adds a keyboard, (organ, synth etc.) to the drum sounds. How do I change that .
@presonus
@presonus Жыл бұрын
Hi Bob, sounds like you have multiple Instrument Tracks monitor armed at once (indicated by the blue speaker icon being on more than once in the Track List). You could turn the additional ones off with a left click, or, alternatively, assign specific Midi inputs to each Instrument Track, so that they wouldn't both get triggered by the same input (in this case, your ATOM). Hope this is helpful. -GBY

From manual: If using a supported DSP-enabled audio interface, you have the choice to use its onboard Hardware Low Latency Monitoring (and hardware DSP-based effects when available, as with the PreSonus Studio 192) for incoming audio inputs, or to use the Native Low Latency Monitoring that Studio One provides. Enable "Use native low latency monitoring instead of onboard DSP" to use Native Low-Latency Monitoring, or disable it to use Hardware Low-Latency Monitoring.◦Note that when using Hardware Low-Latency Monitoring to monitor an audio input, Insert FX do not function on the related Channel, since the audio input is being monitored before it reaches Studio One. If Insert FX are needed while tracking, use Native Low-Latency Monitoring instead. To do this, navigate to Studio One/Options/Audio Setup/Processing (macOS: Preferences/Audio Setup/Processing) and enable the "Use native low-latency monitoring instead of hardware monitoring" option.
