I sometimes wonder if AudioControl is a break off company from JL Audio -- the speaker frame, the box design for the speakers, and the amps look similar to the old school slash amps (JL Audio 300/1, 300/4, 500/1, and 1000/1).

Audio control is part of the JBL family. This brand goes wayyyyy back and has several off brands. infinity, Carver, KLw, etc they all have that ok hand symbol. Even the car audio brands they have under there family line has the ok symbol. Zapco! Phoenix Gold! Look it up! These subs are not made by audio control but by the parent company I'm sure ..
@AudioControlCar
@AudioControlCar Жыл бұрын
This is absolutely not the case. Although JBL and other Harmon brands are great, we are in no way associated or related, never have been. AudioControl was founded by Greg Mackie back in the 70's, and was privately owned up until last year, when we became a part of the AAMP Global family. (Stinger, PAC, Echomaster, Phoenix Gold, Connects2, and M2M in Motion.) Just thought we would set the record straight! The little "ok" symbol you are referring to, is actually the "made in the USA" logo from years past. @@phuckhughe

@@phuckhughe I'm pretty sure that symbol simply means Made in USA. I have quite a few old school amps, including MMATS with the same symbol .

I use to tell people to get a Gately box, but not any more. Gately is way over priced, BigD showed both Gately and a cheaper box with a 2023 SoloX. Both pretty much had the same results. It goes to show that a more spendy box isn't better. Also don't let Gately know your putting in threaded nuts into one of there box's, he gets mad and doesn't like that.

Yes, a huge benefit for the brand. Tons more engineers ( located here in the USA by the way) and resources to improve the products. They've already combined their LC product line with PAC Audio integration harnesses that will make projects far more easy. This is a huge boost to AudioControl

Audio Control speakers, subwoofer(s) and amplifiers may be going in my Jeep restoration project. It's an open top Jeep so as long as they can play loud and clean, I'll be very happy. I'd love to see Audio Control add an ACM-1.500 or 1.600. I think it would compliment the 10's and 12's very nicely when amplifier space is at a premium.
@CarAudioFabrication
@CarAudioFabrication Жыл бұрын
I thought the same! Although for now you could get an LC-1.800 and run at 4 ohms for 500 watts RMS. Go easy on the Amp and your electrical and still a fairly compact amplifier 👍

i am contemplating between 2 subs, since my space is limited.. Skar VD-8 and AC SPK-8 audio control has a few things i love about it, including: the supplied grill; that the surround is flush w/ the basket ring; shallow depth and decent x-max at 350w rms the Skar however has 50w more RMS power handling, more x-max and a shallow depth beating the AC by about 1/4" i have a 0.4 cubic foot sealed box, and the Skar "requires" 0.35^, while the AC "requires" 0.5^ respectively. skar is $80, while the AC is $200 the skar's huge foam surround makes shallow spaces a bit more of a struggle, i believe with the flush, smaller surround on the AC i could fit behind my tacoma seat WITHOUT removing the plastic panel on the rear seat.. just some thoughts, perhaps i'll just flip a coin..

I have always used audio control epicenters in my installs and I decided to do a full build using their amps and speakers, I did an odd build because I bought a D 6.1200 amp first to run a 3 way front stage before deciding to add more amps, so now the build consists of a DM-810, one d 6.1200, one LC 6.1200, and two LC 1.1500 running focal 3 way active in the front and 2 way in the back with 2 extra channels on the LC 6.1200 and two JL 12w6 subs. at first it sounded terrible it took a lot of playing with the dsp to get it sounding good the basic setting just didn't cut it and I needed to get deeper into it but that said now it sounds awesome my only complaint is I have never had a system that the amps get so hot you literally will get burned if you touch them I don't have a inferred to check the temp but I will soon, I have only had this system installed for about 3 weeks now but I am concerned as to how long before one of the amps burn out, These things are hot I can't believe that they are not going into thermal protection being how hot they are getting and only after maybe 3 songs or 15-20 minutes of music at that. Hot is an understatement I mean these are hot hot what is weird is the 6 channels are hotter than the 1500s I'm running my subs on. I put a lot of time and money into this build so we will see how it goes, I have checked all my ohm loads inputs and outputs and voltages and they have good ventilation so we will see fingers crossed I didn't make a bad decision.

Not only that, the American bass has 15mm of linear excursion and 48mm of mechanical excursion. JL audio is junk these days. All you're paying for is the name. Question how hot is your amp getting after about 3 songs can you touch it without getting burned? Mine are running hot as hell. As for dyno it looks like the audio control amp are putting out rated watts actually more than rated so the power shouldn't be an issue unless you are not at the correct ohms but if you are then I would look into your enclosure size I build boxes and it don't take much air space at all to drastically change the output.

Never understood the whole insert thing. How many times do you need to remove a speaker or subwoofer once installed? Never? If for some inexplicable reason you need to remove and re-install your subwoofer 37 times until the holes in the wood box are shot, at that point you can drill them out and install inserts. And if you're a normal person who doesn't remove and re-install your sub 37 times, you never have to worry about it and never have to pay for inserts and machine screws.. Never used them, can't see a time I ever will.
@bgnPrinceton
@bgnPrinceton Жыл бұрын
Not to mention the bigger hole required for the threaded inserts. Wish there was a wider lip on the woofer basket to get away from the cutout, but then that would require custom fab which would make these even more expensive.
@kjbad1
@kjbad1 Жыл бұрын
I appreciate including the grill and inserts, these costs are often hidden in the actual cost of adding a sub to a system. I tend to swap out subs a lot depending on my needs at the time - when I don't need the trunk space for something else, I put the big ported box in the back. When I need to carry a lot or keep the gear out of sight, I switch to the sealed stealth box. When I get an idea or learn somthing new, I change things up - new amps, new subs, etc. I don't keep a lot of subs around - I give my kids my older subs when I upgrade, sometimes I keep my box and sometimes I get/build a new one. All that moving/removing would not be practical without threaded inserts.
@samgreer8596
@samgreer8596 Жыл бұрын
@@kjbad1 1) I think you're the only person who does that. 2) You can't just swap subs as you must know each one has its own volume requirements and the hole patterns will not match up (one sub will have a slightly larger or smaller diameter than another so,,,,not buying it. Sorry.
@kjbad1
@kjbad1 Жыл бұрын
@@samgreer8596 1) I may be the only one. I get that. 2) Changes in volume, going sealed vs ported, and tuning requirements are great reasons to remove one sub and make adjustments for a different type of sub. I like to try new things without building a whole bunch of new boxes. I've had 8s from NVX, Incriminator, and Massive, and they all fit my threaded inserts in my 10 year old box with no modifcations to mounting surface. Every time I upgraded my 8s the new ones fit the inserts just fine. The only time I had to modify the mounting holes on my dual 12 ported box was when I went from Stereo Integrity SQL12s to DD SL612s, and I had to widen the sub openings anyway. Whether you buy it or not, I appreciate AudioControl offering extra hardware-most subs don't come with those unless you buy their box too.
