This is the review/video we've been waiting for! James' approach to reporting the characteristics of speaker products is perfeclty suited for this format. The chart and graph along with commentary were excellent! This needs to be a reoccurring comparison. I'd recommend Rhythmik, REL and SVS subs be included in the next roundup. Thumbs up. Thank you so much!

I love my old BCI PL200 subwoofer. For the price I paid back in the day it's been exceptional and I couldn't be happier with it. I think it was actually an old Audioholics video that put me onto BIC/Acoustech to begin with & after looking around I took a shot...

Nice comparison, even in Jan 2024. I had not considered the RSL and will now give them a good look over. I like its small size and ability to extend up to 150 Hz... may help future-proof my Atmos height channel speakers that only reach down to ~120 Hz. I know there is not much low-end content in those channels yet, but may be down the road. Who knows. They also have a ton of back-side features like dialed phase control, line out and speaker level inputs the others seem to lack. Nice package for $450, although they are sold out right now.

A lot of us buy 2 subs. We usually buy 2 of the same subs. Would it be better to buy a smaller and larger sub to cover deep and higher bass and cover uneven living rooms? I have 4 Klipsch KLF-10’s for towers, a Klipsch center (with 4 woofers), 4 Pioneer Atmos speakers 🔊. My 2 subs are Velodyne 12’s. I’m unhappy with the Velodyne’s because they hardly ever turn on. They don’t always detect the signal. I’ve always had good receivers with them. Like now I have a Pioneer SC Elite Atmos receiver (I forget the number). I used to have an Onkyo 803. The Velodyne’s don’t have an on/off switch. Just auto. Even when they do come on I feel like the KLF-10’s with 2 10’s in each tower are doing a better job. It didn’t matter where I set the crossover. A friend of mine owns a car stereo store Thumpin’ Car Stereo. He’s always used multi sized subs in his home theaters. *Separate issue: Please tell me if I’m going to mess up my receiver. I haven’t had any issues yet. My receiver is 7.2.2. It only accommodates the 2 Atmos speakers. What I did since I’m currently renting was use the upfiring Pioneer Atmos speakers. In order to accommodate all 4, I ran the speaker wire to a speaker selector and then to the speakers. I don’t have front/rear control of them, but do have left and right. I wouldn’t say it sounds great, but it’s pretty good until I buy a new receiver. I’m currently bidding on a new Marantz 1101 9.2 receiver at $335.

I found out a week or two ago that the Klipsch SPL-120 (300W) was being discontinued and found it at B&H. They had it on sale for $449 ($400 off) , but they had one used example for $358.95. I couldn't pass it up. It's replacing my 65W Polk 10" sub that was part of a satellite system I bought about 15 yrs ago. I like the fact that the crossover is adjustable (but honestly I don't know if it's neutralized or not by using Audessey on my Denon AVR-X4700H. I'm using it with my RP-600Mii L/R mains, R-34C center and old Polk surrounds for a 7.1 system.

@shannoncrawford7212

I owned the PSW 505 for about 5 years. And the amp went out on it. That is a common issue with those, maybe not everyone but common enough. $180 quote for a replacement amp from Polk. Back when I bought it it was around $200. I think it is discontinued now. I wouldn’t pay more than $250 for it, I think it is in that range of sub. If spending $4-$500 get the newer Polk in the video, or one of the others. I replaced it with the Klipsch R-12 SW. Which is a discontinued model, but still readily available. I paid $180 from a local discount retailer, $238 on Amazon right now. If looking in the $250 range, my Klipsch is a better sub than the PSW 505. Cleaner and/while louder, but the box is a bit bigger. I mainly use it for music, but still is decent for LFE on movies. But sounds like stepping up to the $500 range, these subs are going to offer additional value for the money.

If you are a home theatre fan, skip the $500 limit. Start at $700 to a $1000 per sub. Wish RSL made a 12 or 15 because they are the budget king! If you had 12’s or 15’s in your ride than you are a bass head. You will need multiple subs, at least 2, probably 4. My 5.1 cost $2400. $1800 for 2 subs, $600 for speakers, AVR, cables, etc.

You know I need to say something here when it comes to subwoofers 90% of them never go below 40 HZ.. so why you spend more than about 250 bucks for $250 you have choices which means you can buy two for 500 bucks delivered for free and one of those choices is Rockville. They are pretty damn good and they're very good for what they are save some money put your money into a better AVR or better floor standing speakers subwoofers only do three things they create rumbling sound connected with movies and even music.. the virtually no good at reproducing sound levels above 200 HZ because that's what reproducing low end vibrations under usually about $150 hurts all the way down to about 30 HZ. You really don't need to spend a fortune for subwoofers because they're pretty much straightforward they produce low vibrations enough so that your music sounds more present in the movies sound more in your face,. Sobe stingy with your Subway for money be very careful how you spend your hard-earned dollaron subwoofers so that you may be able to afford two of them rather than one or even four of them rather than two because the more subwoofers you have the better your sound is in a room and that's the truth
