Music is meant to be FEALT as much as heard. We have things called "baroreceptors" in our thoracic cavities (your chest/lung & heart and major vessel areas) that FEEL barometric (pressure) changes and can be, in some of us, very sensitive, resulting in very moving, emotional responses to some music(s). Headphones, and Heaven forbid, "earbuds" can not transmit this aspect of music; they almost entirely bypass these receptors. I get the various, valid reasons for earphones, etc. But NOthing can substitute for music's pressure changes. That is why, before electricity and amplification, composers had several violinists, oboes, you name it, all playing the same notes-and in an AMPhitheatre, which is designed to project the live music out towards the audience. We are so blessed to live with amplified music!

Try Audeze LCD-3s. Excellent experience. Probably as good as $30,000 speakers, but certainly limited by the source. Recorded and uploaded (or streamed to) KZfaq, then down streamed through my phone before hitting my amp. Still quite, quite nicely done.

Days like today when my wife is home I either use these cheap headphones or I listen to the tv that she is watching. Some days its just not possible to listen on my "system"
