Mazzy is 100 % right on the sweet spot of Analogue Productions. Any more than that is lack of common sense to us. Thanks for sharing guys!🎧

A nice thing about reissues is the windfall for newer audiophiles getting into a turntable a building a record collection - yeah, like most of us dinosaurs I've got multiple copies of this that and the other but that's an upside for newer listeners that I didn't hear you guys mention.

Archaic, it cost a fortune to make them by hand and they are the best in the industry hands down everything about that is an homage to Steely Dan i never spoke with anyone who was not pleased with the quality of that pressing. Thank God for Chad, he is a purist and is keeping the science and the art of this alive we are all richer for him. Jack White is also aiming to do it the right way as well he has his own pressing plant and lathe

Yea Chad’s albums look and sound fantastic. The archaic part is the box designed after 1950s classical box sets.

@@mazzysmusic i guess so. i have a couple of the old classical releases with the dow rod that runs through the spine they are bigger in size don't fit too well on the shelf maybe they could offer the same album in traditional format and the custom as a choice that could work.

Hey Steve great video. If you like Yes Fragile you might want to pick up the latest Kevin Gray rerelease. I did an A/B against my mofi one step and it was better in every aspect. I was shocked. He originally released this in 2016 and then released it again a few weeks ago as a Rhino SYEOR clear vinyl. It's an absolute steal at $30 especially when you think what I shelled out for the one step. Can you ask Kevin if he has any plans to do Close to the Edge. That would be awesome.

Hey, Steve. I always appreciate and enjoy your vids. I feel kinda like there’s different levels of “audiophileness”, which seems to unfortunately often be driven by FOMO. That’s certainly not a slag on anyones way of collecting, but I personally feel it unnecessary to buy every release I might even kinda want. I’ve pretty much always been an original pressing guy, but some of these reissues/ remasters just sound so good. They often need to be observed on a case by case basis. But…sometimes I just want the music, and the Fidelity probably isn’t gonna have too big of an impact of how much I enjoy it. I’m just glad I picked up most of my collection when I did, because I’d never be able to afford most of it today. All that being said, there’s that part of me that at least likes to keep my finger on the pulse of the audio / vinyl community and the upcoming releases, cuz it’s certainly is fun to compare pressings. Thanks, Steve, Mazzy, and Tim.

Also, I can’t neglect to bring up all the great people I’ve met through the VC, many of whom I keep in touch with regularly outside of YT. We’ve got a wonderful community here, and as long as people treat each other with respect and an open accepting mind, I think the happier we’ll all be. Thanks again, Steve. 👍🔊😊🎶

Question for next week with Kevin. Does he plan to only do Jazz in his studio? Or is a folk or even a 3 piece punk band any chance of being recorded there?

Question for Kevin Grey: I’m an audiophile and I have an all valve vinyl playback system. Which valve manufacturers does Kevin think are currently producing the best valves - best meaning sound, reliability, and if possible to answer, value for money? Thank you Steve.

The backlog is real…partly due to the world opening up with less time to listen and FOMO due to the limited runs of reissues. Probably at about 100+ that I’ve bought over the past few months that I have yet to listen to. 2 many records, 2 little time.

@@audiotomb sometimes! This hobby is awesome and I’ve collected records for over 25 years but sometimes it can become too much about the hunt and the next purchase as opposed to listening to what you actually own. Also I’ve been guilty of scouring the Steve Hoffman forums too much of course!

I do the same as Mazzy... I have ALL of my records set up the same way a record store does (feel free to click on my name and look under for example my Part 1 video on the DIY ultrasonic RCM, and there is a link to my *Soundroom System & Collections* ) so, for all my records, I can very easily browse through all of them as Mazzy was saying about his few 'flip bins' upstairs. I have one section like he does for 'New Arrivals' and those do not get cataloged or put away until I've listened to them a few times. FWIW, I've been doing this for over 40 years and I've ALWAYS tried to be very judicious about *ONLY* buying records that I really like and will play. I'm not like a lot of collectors/Audiophiles where they buy everything in creation (Michael 45 anyone 😁) and the over 2500 or so albums that I have for the most part are ones I really like and will keep, and I can easily 'browse' through my entire collection and easily play whatever with super fast access. I built the crude shelves that the albums sit upon, all are front facing, because I absolutely *REFUSE* to go blind trying to see the micro-skinny spines and try to read what album is what 😊
@mazzysmusic
@mazzysmusic Жыл бұрын
I only used the flip through bins for my current plays and new releases . In heavy rotation records. Once I have a grasp they are added to the library like most collectors. To be pulled again when the mood is right 😎✌🏻

Nice discussion I own both Analogue Productions UHQR Mofi one-step they're nice vinyl for sure. I'm into audiophile for sure price point has been a defining factor to cease my indulgence. Australia 🇦🇺 shipping and taxes $225^$245 per vinyl value for me I can buy 6 nice new record's or 10 real nice classic vinyl pressings... I have become less of an Audiophile snob & evolved of into listening to my collection appreciation has come back to me in all true respects 🙏 I no longer chase the best sounding switching to older preloved classic rock pressings... I'm much more relaxed about buying older pressings than these wracking the beast AP copies .... I own all the Doors Burnie Grundman US Rhino recordings do I buy the AP 45s... Probably the only albums that I really want but are they really worth it 👌 🤔

Almost none of this stuff sells out quickly anymore. It isn't 2020 or 2021. You have time, and most of it (outside Chad) will go on sale if you're willing to wait.

Great video as usual………I think they are goin’ to damage the vynils resurrection …too many boxes are too much expensive……the dark side of the moon one will be 300 euros !!!for a record we know by heart …and single albums are sometimes over 50 euros ,(because i watch the youtuber videos too much too,)and ibought a lot of them ,and effectively,don t listen to them as much…i will take care now not to be so influental,and not buying as much new issues

I don't think you need to justify collecting albums by listening to them frequently. People collect rare books that they cannot possibly read more than a couple times in a lifetime. People collect sports cards that have absolutely no utility. I say if you guys can afford the hobby, if you enjoy the hunt and if you get some personal satisfaction from having a library of great sounding records to spin when time permits then why waste time second guessing a hobby that brings you joy. I own zero records, but that is my take on your "addiction".
