Back in the 90's my roommate and myself used to go to record conventions scoring cool and rare records. He was buying things that people are actually still looking for today. Meanwhile, I was buying classic rock vinyl that wasn't on cd at the time thinking I was really scoring some real rare gems. Turns out, I wasn't. Some nice songs, though.

If you’re collecting records because you think they’ll increase in value, you should rethink your strategy. Or try buying the S&P 500. Frankly, it would be great if all records collapsed in value - then people who simply enjoy listening to them would find it way more affordable.

This is so funny. What a great subject to bring up. It reminds me so much of my own collection. Some of the best stuff I own is endlessly worth FO. Its unbelievable! (check out No Destinstion by The Blackbirds. A forgotten mod group from Southern Germany. Its totally cheezy but totally brilliant at the same time - U.K. Saga record from 1968 - budget label mud against the wall release - fabulous!). I honestly think that all the records you feature here will eventually have their day. As a very good friend of mine once said - "if you like it, you can guarantee that someone else out there does too". Many thanks Robert...

Friend of mine introduced me to Joy Division when I met him in 1982. Before I met him,I had only vaguely heard of them because they were right next to Joy Of Cooking in the stacks. I still don't know what Joy Of Cooking sound like and I'm okay with it. I'm 60 and really miss the days when lps ruled. Love your site. It's fun.

So years ago I had the Moms Apple Pie 'vagina' cover and I thought "My God I'm sitting on millions, how could they get away with this" - only to find out the really rare one was the 2nd censored cover with the wire fence and 2 cops peering through the window. By the time I got that one, nobody cared. Threw them both out. - Great video! - Jose'

Thanks for giving me a good laugh today. Fantastic video and I love the topic. I was more like your roommate, buying stuff that has typically increased in value over the years, but I have also bought my share of "who cares?" vinyl, only the majority of mine are bands that were super-obscure and just never gained a following. I have posted a lot of videos on my own channel about stuff that I was stoked to find at the time, then I make a video of it, with sound clips even, and maybe 10 people will watch it. Maybe I should make a "who cares?" video too! Anyway, great stuff, you have a new subscriber.

Great video Robert! I picked up a copy of Hard Labor this weekend. The copy I found had the manila filing folder that covers up the action on the front cover, which gives you the impression that this record may house some really rare, contraband, clandestine, perhaps shocking imagery, music or more... Nope! Nobody cares! At $5 I paid way too much for it!

Hey man. You're right on with those picks. The only ones that some people may get upset over would be Rumours, Thriller, and Elvis ( not me !). You were right on regarding Thriller, people think they found a million $, same with Elvis. I've witnessed many, many bring Elvis into a record store and are totally offended by the offer tendered after an appraisal and storm out in a huff. I tell them just because records are old does not make them valuable, especially Elvis. I have a sealed copy of that Mom's Apple Pie uncensored cover, which I can give two shits about, but just waiting for the day that I can unload it on someone who thinks they're getting The Velvet Underground unpeeled, torso lp. Ha! People shame me for not being gaga over Rumours; it's not that I don't like it or respect it. The radio killed it for me, like a lot of other bands, like The Eagles. Oh well- great topic for a video though. Peace.

Well done, it takes quite a skill to make so many wrong decisions one after another. I say that, as I'm quite proud of it being a skill I also excel at. I start to wonder if my bad luck at not choosing to buy the right records is the result of bad karma in a previous life? I must've been a irredeemably awful dung beetle in my last incarnation to be heaped this much crap! I could cope if it were only my record collecting which was so dreadfully flawed, but no, my comic collecting hobby has been equally doomed. It seems that given the choice of two comics to collect, one which will spiral in value and one that will sink without trace, my transcendentally defective ability kicks in and I go for the pile of shite...Every bloody time. ...Still, at least these records I buy are the bomb! People need to wake up to how awesome they really are! This time next year I'll be sitting on a goldmine of hyper rare country rock albums! Cheers - Hedley

Thanks!! I really like some of these albums, it's just hilarious to remember how naïve I was to think they would be valuable. I've never owned a comic book.

Rosanne Cash's Seven Year Ache is a great album, but I checked Discogs and a million people have it and 40 people want it. Sad.

There are a few "Moody Blue" albums in black vinyl. They're worth a few $$$. I was stupid and bought the blue version.

LOL, I have that Frijid Pink record too, got it cheap. I'd love to find a copy of Toad the Wet Sprocket for less that $100 but many are more than $200. That's hilarious about the MJ, it's amazing how such an ubiquitous album gets way over-priced. I saw one copy in Fair condition, many scratches, and they wanted $20 for it? No body wants it. It is amazing how so many punk titles are so highly collectable.

Some of those punk singles like The Misfits were expensive back in the 90's. They are astronomically priced now.

I almost thought that the Cat Mother was Leaf Hound growers of mushroom in the image holder. HAhahahha. Side note - you care, or cared. And if you like the music that's all that matters. Unless you were only buying for future value and as an investment.
