Is there any chance of you reviewing the SOMA Ether V2? It's not a really synth, but it's useful for electronic music as a source of drones, sound effects, sampler fodder, etc. I have one, along with some mixed feelings about it. I'd really like to see what you could do with one! 🙂

I call my Lyra 8 the "time waster". Every time I turn it on I end up spending a couple of very enjoyable hours making weird soundscapes I'll never be able to reproduce. I couple it with a Boss DR-55 drum machine running through a spring reverb, and it's lo-fi heaven.

I have own one for years now and I love it. You truly have to be recording at all times because it can start making something you have never heard of. It is VERY hard to understand and play but it is worth it. You will be looking for a sound and then look at the clock to see 2 hours went by and you were just lost messing around with it. Im glad it has no quantize or cv, midi etc. EVERYTHING has those. This doesn't and it never pretended to be. Its also built like a tank quite literally.

The magnetic charm of the Lyra-8 is undeniable. I’ve pegged it as my secret weapon for hunting down those rare, elusive samples - the kind that elevate a track from good to unforgettable. But, without fail, I’m seduced into the spontaneous symphony of a jam session. The Lyra-8 isn’t merely a piece of gear; it’s a gateway to uncharted sonic territories, beckoning me to explore further than I ever planned.

The Lyra-8 isn't bad gear, it's weird gear. No lie, I have used this device extensively whether it's Rhizome in DC or the High Zero festival. With Jazz musicians, or absolute weirdos doing noise music. I love the thing to death. It's super well built, and there is nothing else like it. Unless you are talking about ciat lonbarde instruments (hint hint). It was also the only synth I used alongside other more conventional instruments (Guitars, Bass, Cello) for my Under Night album. In short...it is surprisingly useful.

Mr. Florian, the intro with Lyra 8 in Tarkovsy’s Stalker is PURE GENIUS😆😆😆😆 As a Russian, I’ve always been fascinated of how you westerners love Tarkovsky and to be honest, I don’t know why😄 Well, as a cultural masterpiece, his officially praised movie in Russia is Andrey Rublev and I kinda agree. Don’t take me wrong, Stalker and Solaris are great films, but we don’t find them as fascinating as the western public do. But I surely like Stalker’s rundown industrial apocalyptic atmosphere with the “soviet touch”. Considering today’s “guest” in the form of Lyra8, it’s not “BAD”, it’s just a device without any purpose, a true “hipster toy” like all their products (just check the wooden “thing” and their latest “Rumble of the Ancient Times” device).

So between my phone being close to unusable, and also having just been in the hospital for 5+ days, I can't believe I missed this episode about a synth (the only one, besides a Moog-made Radio Shack MG-1 that doesn't make a sound) that I actually own! Personally, I love my Lyra-8 (white, jealous of orange), but I also don't really make songs and am basically a classically trained flute player with a love of electronic noises. I knew you'd get around to this eventually, thanks! Now talk about the deep rabbit hole I'm often in thanks to VCV Rack (or discuss the fact that I actually paid a bunch of $ to NI in the very early 2000s for a Reaktor 3? 4? dongle even though a.b.s.u. was still a thing), this channel will have become more me than me. ❤❤❤

@@robinr22 I don't believe art must be pleasant, and I think there should be tools to create all forms of art. That said, there were moments with this instrument that I found beautiful, but for me, there is an aspect of this synth's sound that exhausts my mind. I know that I am more sensitive to these sort of things than most people, so it's hard for me to tell how everyone else would react. I can, however, tell that this synth would be a godsend to the right type of person.

So I know it's months later, but as not really a musician who has one of these but no reverb, could you recommend a decent reverb to put it through. Doesn't have to be insanely cheap, but not too hard to use would be helpful. Thanks, if you actually see this and answer!
