Augmented (hyper)Reality: Domestic Robocop

The latter half of the 20th century saw the built environment merged with media space, and architecture taking on new roles related to branding, image and consumerism. Augmented reality may recontextualise the functions of consumerism and architecture, and change in the way in which we operate within it.
A film produced for my final year Masters in Architecture, part of a larger project about the social and architectural consequences of new media and augmented reality.

Thanks! yeah, it's like a free newspaper, where the ads pay for the content. Trying to find a balance between utility and revenue is quite difficult, but i can see this sliding-scale type of system working.

Neither/both.. I do take the standpoint that consumer technology is usually used for promoting the values of consumerism, but the film was made more to explore the possibilities of AR, and speculate on some of the other behavioral, spatial, social and economic consequences. I find myself simultaneously enamored with and terrified by technology, so I suppose that the film reflects that.

This is amazing. I also enjoyed the alluded to idea that such a hyper augmented world might make us so dependent on technology that simple "habit tasks" like making tea could be cognitively outsourced into the info spectrum!
@chocobaby2000
@chocobaby2000 14 жыл бұрын
I think this is already happening to some extent.. Being able to look stuff up easily means that we can afford to process more information, but maybe retain less. Why remember a fact or quote if its just a click away? 'cognitively outsourced into the info spectrum!' is nice, thanks!
@MB-ib9zv
@MB-ib9zv 2 жыл бұрын
This is a marvelous thought! I've never really looked at it this way, but you're right.. It feels like since we've been bombarded with all of these information and since our brains only choose those data that are more important, we seem to not be able to retain as much information as we were able to before.. but then again, those who constantly exercise their brain would have no problem with this.

The perfection of a system comes not when there is nothing left to add, but nothing left to take away. With that in mind, I don't see how anyone would want to be bombarded with ads and essentially eye spam. I rather think the future of AR is in gaming a driving. In gaming, imagine playing HALO or Call of Duty where you are REALLY running around, shooting imaginary weapons but in real (but augmented) environments. That's something I'd pay for.

Pause it at the ad turn down it's a very long bar and they stop pretty high. That would make sense.. more ads and it costs you less to run it.. Something like that would need funding from some very serious people or many, many smaller businesses on the face of the planet.

Augmented reality might actually help you with that. The more advanced it becomes, the more natural it gets to do your job from home, where-ever that may be (as long as you can afford a fast internet connection between there and the nearest hub). The human population density is still less than 50 people per square kilometer of land (~120 per square mile), so if you want seclusion, it should be easy enough to find.
