That's really handy to know. I've been using AUM a lot recently with my little Novation Launch Control to jam some long evolving ambient stuff with my soundbanks in Mitosynth, Sunrizer and FM Player 2 being driven by Rozeta Particles. I also had a couple of Ruismaker Noirs and a couple of SynthMaster Players in there too being driven by Atom, oh, and an instance of FieldScaper, a few instances of 4Pockets Multitap Delay, and of course a few instances of the now obligatory Blackhole Reverb! Even though I'm on an iPad Pro from 2016, and with a higher latency setting in AUM, I think I had just about reached the loading limit before the crackles and pops started. So it would be more efficient to grab a couple of audio loops of the drums and bass parts and replace the Noirs and SynthMaster Players (along with their associated midi drivers) with those parts from the simple file player. Thanks Mitch and Dean, for an excellent AUM trick! AUM is an endless thing! It can be used in sooooo many different ways!

WOOOOOT! (I like the sound of that huge AUM project, Buddy!) 😀 👊 My older iPad AIR 2 could never handle a session of that size. LOVING this technique for saving on CPU! Thanks for watching!

This is the best video out for making loops in AUM. But one thing that isn't mentioned is to make sure your loops have the same number of beats. Because I was using an imported drum loop there was 3 too many beats in that loop. Maybe that was because it was created at a different BPM. I don't know how it happened but it did. No matter how many times I recorded the loop it just didn't sync up even with the sync button pressed. After you load your file look down in that dialog box and you will see a setting for number of beats in measure; make sure they match. Then it synced perfectly.
@ElectronisoundsAudio
@ElectronisoundsAudio 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, those numbers should match. 😀 👊 If you follow my method shown here exactly when making your loop(s), you should't have to change anything when you import the loop(s). Also, If AUM is reading an *off* number of beats in your loop/sample, chances are that it is not properly rendered or trimmed to be a perfectly seamless loop.
@slimbeaux
@slimbeaux 4 жыл бұрын
@@ElectronisoundsAudio I definitely can see that in your lesson. I didn't record this particular drum loop; it was an imported loop. The original tempo of the loop was 90.1 BPM and I was recording in 110. I am guessing that this is why there was 11 beats in that loop. When I changed the number to 8 beats per measure the loop seemed to play a little faster and everything synced. As you know from the questions I have been asking that I am getting serious about making music and not just "chasing shiny objects" by taking a cursory glance at many different apps. I am just so Grateful that the developer at Kymatica put this feature in there. What a great app! #kymatica

Real quick...I’ve been making music exclusively with an iPhone over the last year and a half. It happened by accident when I discovered the apps made by novation/ampify. Over the last year I’ve been finding ways to attempt to make professional sounding music using only my phone. And it’s been extremely tough at times with regulars to mixing and mastering. Stumbling into his video by chance was a pleasant surprise. Your studio set up looks pretty amazing. And today is the first time I’ve heard of AUM and now I’m very excited to check it out. Anyways just wanted to say I’m so glad I found your channel. Amazing stuff. Cheers!

Electronisounds Audio nice thanks I will for sure check em out. Oh and if I might ask a question? I’ve recently heard about an app called audioBus? But can’t seem to find very many good videos about it? Do you use it or have any opinions on it? It sounds like it allows you to run synth apps through other synth apps thus stacking effects on top of each other? But I’m not really sure.

I wish a “effect” insert could make a loop on the go. Take the input record loop when a button pressed and send the loop out. Will not fix the cpu problem but could help for creative exploration.
@ElectronisoundsAudio
@ElectronisoundsAudio 4 жыл бұрын
I'm not understanding what you want to do with live looping - there are live looping programs for the iPad if you want to record and playback loops on the fly. Check out a dedicated looper app like Loopy HD, Quantiloop, Looper, Etc... CPU Problem? The CPU is dependent on how powerful your iPad is. I actually made a video on this topic: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bNSHotejv5nTeI0.html 😀 👊

Big ups for this vid! The rendering of channels seems obvious but in AUM, the way it’s interface works, it didn’t scream out to me, I was just importing already made loops into it and shoehorning them in (for me anyway) it’s given me some new perspective on this app as I have kinda moved away from it tbh but with this linked into Audiobus, it’s a whole world of creative niceness.

I’d like to add that an excellent pairing to this process is Audio Evolution Mobile as it has excellent beat/measure snapping to allow you to combine/edit etc loops from AUM seemlessly. Often the process you describe doesn’t result in seamless start stop, but by doing some copy/paste in AE, you can make just about any loop seamless

THAT WAS FREAKIN' AWESOME!!! This is exactly what I was trying to figure out!!! I noticed you were using an old iPad Air 2, the one I'm still currently stuck with, and first I thought: hmm, that can't be right for this high tech guy. But I'm having exactly the same problem you were trying to set up: my CPU just can't keep up with my arrangements. What you're doing here, by exporting the tracks to audio, is essentially what you do in Garageband by locking tracks so that the Mac doesn't have to process your effects in real time. The difference is that making an audio loop means you can't do further tweaking of the sound, short of adding additional effects. The method you're showing also solves a problem I can't find a solution to: how to get sequenced instruments to launch at the top of the pattern, right on the downbeat. I guess you can skillfully slide in the instrument perfectly timed, but it would be great if patterns in Riffer or Fugue could be synced up to wait for the next 4 or 8 bars before it starts. Anyway, thanks for this tutorial: it opens up a lot of possibilities.
@ElectronisoundsAudio
@ElectronisoundsAudio 3 жыл бұрын
Hey Hey! Thanks for watching! 😀 👊 I can't speak for Fugue Machine, but what you described is *EXACTLY* how Riffer works. You turn on the infinity (looping) button, set the number of bars beneath it, and every # of bars, Riffer will play a new random pattern. I've got two videos on Riffer: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fLtzpspk2s_NlaM.html kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pZZ0lc6cucfYg2g.html

Hey Hey! No bluetooth audio - too much latency for music production. Have to use a wired connection for sure. I use the Novation Audiohub 2x4, but **any** class compliant audio interface will work. Here's a video I made a while back on using audio interfaces with iPads if you have any questions: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h5ecY8t3yq6WZn0.html

@ElectronisoundsAudio

@@user-uh7ll1kn2q Yes - of course you have to save it in a session - the routing is all based on each specific session. 😀 👊 Each session will be different - and require it's own routing. You can set up (and SAVE) a general *TEMPLATE* with your basic go-to starting and routing /set up - then load that each time you want to make something, and immediately save it under a new name to keep your *TEMPLATE* intact. The routing in AUM is always based on the specific session - every session can have it's own setup and custom routing. 😀 👊

Hi, is it possible to route AUM with IOS video on the IPad Pro rather than the default mic it’s for a DJ set ‘video iPad, Audio DJ mixer? I tried the method of simply connecting the usb cable from the DJ mixer to the iPad which works but the iPad must be choosing the wrong channel as there’s no eq changes or effects present on the recording.
@ElectronisoundsAudio
@ElectronisoundsAudio 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry, I do not fully understand the question. AUM with *video*? 👊 However, the DJ mixer's fx not being recorded is a thing with the mixer itself, not iPad. Read the mixer's manual - it likely does not send the fx over USB audio, a lot mixers work that way - it's FRUSTRATING. I have 2 mixers that do not send the eq or fx over usb audio. My Allen and Heath Xone:DB2 is that way - no eq or FX over usb audio.....

@@DjPaulSavage Better wording now - gotcha. AUM is not needed for this. You need to run a *CLASS COMPLIANT* audio interface into the iPad - plug your DJ gear into it with regular audio cables, not usb. Use the iPad to go live to whatever you want. DONE. The iPad is the camera - the Audio interface is the audio. 2-channel STEREO audio only - NOT multi-channel audio.

I just saw this video, it's great, thanks! but How do you bounce the whole project into a stereo loop?, like if you have several tracks on AUM and just want to record the "master" bus?? Hey Hey! Sure, you can create all kinds of busses and custom routing inside of AUM, when you click to insert an instrument, choose "MIX BUS" instead. Now, you can click on icon at the bottom the tracks you want to send to that bus and route it there. Hope that helps! 😀 👊

Currently, the clips inside the scenes are not launchable from a midi controller. You have to set up the scenes you want, and then launch the scenes as a whole scene. (I hope that makes sense... lol) I believe you can launch the clips in side the scenes *manually* with your finger though! 😁
