Next Step for iOS Music Making | AUM AUv3 Multi Out | Pure Acid | haQ attaQ

Күн бұрынIt's finally happening! Pure Acid just got updated with AUv3 multi-out and heres a complete tour of how to use it in AUM. This allows us to route the bassline synth and drum machine to individual mixer channels and on top of that, we can route the drum sounds individually too. This is the next step for iOS music making and hopefully we'll see more music app developers implement AUv3 multi-I/O in their apps, wether it be DAWs, Grooveboxes, Drum machines or Synthesizers.

BTW, the send FX are internally routed through the MXF module and that cannot be bypassed. To clarify, the MFX touch-pad module is at the end of the FX chain and will always effect the send fx (no pun intended). - Another thing to think about is that each drum sound have their own individual FX send knob setting too. These knobs are located in the drum parameter section and they’re set per selected sound.

Both Send FX outputs can also be routed to any of available bus outputs, not only MFX. To do so, tap the right arrow "->" on the send fx pedals. And MFX is always outputs to Master Out 1.

Thanks Jakob.About a few minutes into the video I intuitively got my head around it. Then I finally went back and finished the tutorial. Good stuff as always bro. Man this changes everything. AUM and my iPad have now become a super portable, extra powerful battle station and will, I repeat, will do damage on local dance floors, at funky human lounge dwellings, abandoned museums, and whatever else requires on the fly take over on the party sneaky crazy dude that came outta nowhere with just an iPad and a little controller and rocked the party extra hard. Oh wow, now I understand - I had a Roland TR606 drumbox back in the day, and the guy who sold me it had done a common ‘customisation’ job at the back, whereby they made individual outputs for each of the drums! There were little 3.5mm sockets, in the back of the silver plastic casing, and this meant you could get Bass Drum, Snare, Tomtom, and Hihat I think, out on their own, individual cables. Yeh - multi-output, 1986 style. Carry on Jakob!

Thanks for another great video. Actually you can also route the individual effects. This i super cool because you can use the individual fx-sends in the drummachine to route the drums to external effects in AUM. This is super awesome since pure acid dont have a tempo-sync delay. The trick is to take one of pure acids effect”pedals” and tweak all the parameters all the way down so that you’ll get a clean signal through the pedal. Then send it to say BUS 3 where an effect of choise has been loaded. MANNNNN I LOVE PURE ACID !!!🤘🏼👍🏼🦾

It’s great to see the iOS music world evolving like this! Love it! Now I just hope Apple doesn’t start making portless devices which kill everything in one sweep (because latency would be unbearable if it all had to go through bluetooth)

Apple will likely just buy AUM or something like it like they did with the ‘Shortcuts’ app that was made by someone else. They can make stupid money keeping it how it is, unless they come up with something better

What I like about the Pure Acid effects is that they have trails so when you stop a bassline or the drums you hear the reverb and/or delay tail off, it’s the one thing in Aum I don’t like, everything is so dry. Unless you set up a separate effects bus of course and you route your drums or whatever to that

I think I’m used to that type of workflow because I usually want to add my own specific effects to stuff, so I end up working with FX-busses. I’ve made several templates over the years for the apps that I work a lot with. That way I never have to make a session or a setup every time I start a new project. Because that gets boring, real quick. 😅

Only bought Acid so I can use the multi out; wasn't looking for another synth. But it does look like a good one. Now I need to go back and watch some tutorials on how to use it. Any ways, any other multi out apps out there that you know of? As always great stuff. I will share this vid to iPad Musician and ask the same question there. Thanks again Mon, you're the best.

Jakob, great breakdown. Multi-output functionality is a game changer indeed. Frick'n love it. Too bad there isn't a Rebirth hack to do this. That said, PureAcid is dope. Also, do you have any special cooling tips for iPad during lengthy sessions❓Stay smooth❗👊🏽😏

I’d pay for that too. Talkin gunabout Figure btw, I’ve been messing around with an app called Beatonal. It doesent look very nice, but it’s like a souped up Figure with sample import and MIDI file export options. Have you checked it out?

I haven’t heard of that one, but I just looked at it and I see what you mean. But I will probably give it a go just to see. I’m really tempted to get Pure Acid though. I can’t live without Poison-202. It’s my go to... now with multi-route, I think I’ve got to get it. Does Jim have any plans to go multi with Groove Rider (I think it’s called)?

Excellent tutorial, thanks. One thing I’ve noticed: When you change presets in PureAcid, the ‘bus 2,3,4’ in drums settings disappear.. You have to set them up again. Is that right? Thank you

Thanks Jacob, I had trouble figuring this out. 😅 But the Pure Acid patch “Nebulus” that I selected to try this didn’t separate drum sounds and the bass line clearly. It took me a while to figure out why. I found that in addition to the FX A/B sends in the mixer, each drum sound has its own FX A/B sends. If any of these are turned up for a drum sound (BD, SD, ..., RIM, CLP, CB, etc.), then these sounds will still be sent to FX A or FX B. (And FX A or FX B have their own output selectors. For me, they usually send to the master FX (MFX), but of course they could be set to send to any of the output busses.) The settings for the per-drum-sound sends to FX A and FX B can be found in the Drum Parameters, when selecting each drum sound with the Drum Select buttons. It would be nice to have a signal flow drawing for Pure Acid to see this clearly.

I am using AUM and its midi learn function to assign the encoders of my midi controller, the Midi Fighter Twister, to parameters of the Pure Acid audio unit. This works great but my problem is after I unplug my midi controller or close the AUM session (after having saved it) at the end of my jam. After I replug the controller or after I reload the saved session to start a new jam, my encoders are reset to zero. I would like the endless encoders and the LED indicators of the Midi Fighter Twister to be reset on the saved CC value of the Pure Acid parameters they're assigned to. For this I would need AUM to communicate to the midi controller the CC values of the saved parameters. The manual of the Midi Fighter mentions that "to sync the display value of the CC to the parameter it is controlling in your software of choice, simply map the MIDI OUT for that parameter to the same MIDI number on channel 0." I can't figure out a way of mapping MIDI OUT from the Pure Acid audio unit or from AUM. Does anybody know a practical work around for this?

AUM is the only app that supports AUv3 multi-out so far. Other app developers would have to implement this system into their app in order to take advantage of it.

I'm now late night googling to find transient wav marking groovebox lol. Also looking into a clip launcher for Ios. Zen Beats seems (maybe?) promising. I just thought I would throw this out there. I should get off the internet and restring my guitar or actually make music.... hah. cheers!

Not that many that I’m currently aware of. It’s Pure Acid here and Scatterbrain by Bram Bos right now. There might be a few more that I Ah e missed. We are basically at the start of this and I’m hopping that more developer catches this train. Many users will most likely put this type of workflow at the top of their wish list.

Elliot Garage Pulse can also do multi out. It finally fulfills my needs to play audio clips triggered by MIDI in a compact way while still be able to apply FX separately if I need to. It also can do time stretching and transposing.
