If you want to skip all the explanations, go to 3:24 to hear Aunt Mimi.
In the early 1970s, John Lennon's Aunt Mimi responded to John's request for some genealogy info with a tape recorded message. 30 years back the recording aired on a radio series program called The Lost Lennon Tapes. Aunt Mimi wasn't afraid to speak her mind and she didn't hold back about a few things that were bothering her. While I wasn't able to find the recording, I did find the transcript and used AI to recreate her message.

"For years I've heard you yelling and shouting about love, but it seemed to me your heart was full of hate, and it showed in your face." Wow, Aunt Mimi. I wonder how John took that.

I'm no Beatles expert, but she's certainly a fascinating character, one of the few people who would tell John exactly what she thought - and he cared what she thought of him.

Funny, someone just posted an article on Facebook about Julian Lennon getting nothing for 15 years after his father was killed. It was only after Howard Stern shamed her on his show that she finally gave him some money.

Mimi was spot on about A LOT. When she points out the difference between George getting into the US and him not. AND the reason? 100%. You CAN SEE and hear where John got his sharp wit and honesty. I feel sorry for her. She was there as a constant in his life and he basically shut her out. John Lennon was a fake tough guy. When, it came to it, he was VERY open to people, past and present, using him. He sang about "Give me some truth" yet, when it came to the truth he KNEW? He hid away like he did from a lot of people dying in his life. She wasn't his Auntie but his true Mother and Father. She's the one he got and he resented it. She was the one who could see through him more than even Paul or anyone. In that sense, John was, even if he didn't know it, trying to BE HER while unwilling to accept she was true family. Everything tied into him was ONLY because of her. SHE made him a SOMEONE. He made himself a NO WHERE MAN.

I recall hearing a bit of a recorded message from Mimi (the voice here is pretty good) on an episode of _The Lost Lennon Tapes._ I seem to recall they said she recorded messages on more than one occasion. In the bit I heard, ever the stuffed shirt, she said, "Well, if WE"RE not gods, what does that make YOU?" without any context for it. A few episodes later they played a tape of a Lennon interview, in which he was discussing parents, and was saying how children outgrow the sort of "blind" worship of their parents, realizing, as he put it, "They're not GODS, you know" and I think THAT was what Mimi was responding to!

Really, John didn't listen to a thing his Aunt said? He rejected it all? That is completely idiotic. Mimi was a *huge* influence on John's life, and she was the *only* real parent he had. Without her guidance, John could have gone in a completely other direction, and you would have never heard of him. SMH

from what was supposedly said mimi wasn't denouncing "socialism." she was denouncing those who, through capitalist corruption and greed, would exploit lennon's advocay of socialism. she says, and quite correctly, that "money corrupts." and that's precisely what socialism intends to end - the capitalist corruption. democracy is political socialism and socialism is economic democracy. they're both based upon social cooperation. and as betrand russel so eloquently said - "cooperation is the ONLY thing that can redeem mankind!"

Great concept for your video. The accent of the cloned voice does stray off to different regional accents of Great Britain, there’s a little bit of a posh Edinburgh vibe in certain parts, amongst others. Aunt Mimi was a strong no nonsense woman and Lennon should have been infinitely grateful she ( and his uncle George)took him under their wing. Thanks for posting 👍🏻

This is amazing. I never heard this. The women in John’s life were all brutally honest, and incredibly witty. And always got right to the point with John. And he listened! and respected that truth. I don’t know if if he did anything about it though? The dragon lady made the final call on everything.

i’m thinking of Paul’s song “Dear Boy” (which was really directed at Linda’s first husband who left) but could really also be thought at John when he found fame as a Beatle but mishandled it.. it would go perfectly with this recording…

Voice is a bit off but the tone is totally Mimi. She loved him very much, as did his Uncle George. Even John at his worst knew the truth of that, in his heart, where it counts. When they made it big he sent Mimi a gold guitar (wall ornament) inscribed with "The guitar's all very well John, but you'll never make a living out of it".

John Lennon never said he was either the second or any other messiah. What he said was the Beatles were bigger than Jesus. Which at that point in time was certainly the case. It was merely a comment about Beatlemania.

2:00 If Julia was killed in 1958, and the article is saying it was on July 15, then John was still only 17, as he would not turn 18 until October 9th of that year. Don't know how the "witness", the coroner, would know where she looked before crossing. I've heard before that the driver was a drunk off-duty polliceman; maybe that was HIS claim.

There are a lot of inconsistencies in this recording that deserve fact-checking. It jumps around from Mimi acknowledging John being married to Cynthia to talking about his deportation issues, which occurred when he was with Yoko. There were some other questionable issues, but this one was a major point that I think would call into question whether this was actually said. Again, this transcript talks about her being disappointed with his relationship with Alfred when it's a fact that Lennon continued having a distant relationship with him besides giving his mistress a nanny position. In my opinion, this transcript might be false. I had doubts at first, but I am almost certain after listening.

The person who transcribed it said there was more to this, but this was all they had transcribed. I'd love to hear the actual recording. Like I mentioned, it seems fairly clear that it was aired on the 1980s radio program mentioned. Maybe the recording can be ordered somewhere, if I find it, I'll post it.

After John was murdered, Mimi was shocked to discover that the house John bought for her in Bristol was in his name. She didn't really own it. Yoko, to her credit, allowed Mimi to live the rest of her life in that house.

Acording to John's sister Julia Baird, Mimmy stole John from his mother and it is clear that she used the fact that Julia Stanley was living with a man and married to Fred Lennon at the same time for this purpose. John's mother had also given in addoption a daughter previously.
