What a trippy movie it would have been if the "desired" casting choices had been realized: Shirley Temple as Dorothy, W.C. Fields as the Wizard, Gale Sondergaard as a glamorous Wicked Witch, and Fanny Brice as Glinda.

Strother Martin was one of the best character actors of all, every role he played was great, the movie's he played in were better because of Strother, one of a kind actor, truly one of the best, THANKS for sharing this story.

I just watched Strother Martin in an old Gunsmoke. His character thinks he's shot a man and he wants to be put in jail. I'm getting ready to watch "Slap Shot" so I can see him again with Paul Newman! Mr. Martin always make me smile even when he's the bad guy.

Lucy was kicked around as a starlet for 20 years. She had to be tough to survive in the Hollywood jungle. True, she was a domineering control phreak, but that is what held the show together. Stars are seldom what they appear to be on screen. Lucy should respected for what she achieved.

I was around 8 years old when the show started. No matter what episode was on a 8 year old would rather be watching cartoons.. It wasn't until I was 12 that I enjoyed the shows like The Beverly Hillbillies.

Happy days started out as a serious drama about the 50's but thru the years it got pretty corny and stupid. I actually liked Fonzie in the first few episodes before they turned him into a comic book character. Snaping fingers to get women, getting soda from the coke machine with out paying, beating up guys twice his size...oh common. Even my 11 year old self new it was cringe TV. John Revolta would have made it worse....judging from his Vinnie Barbarino. That crap was TV for teenage girls.

I can't stand bossy employers. That being said... it Was Lucy's show.. and she did have a certain vision of exactly how she wanted it to be. She must have been right to some degree, because the audience who bought the product... LOVED it. So for a couple of Giants like Burton and Taylor to be told exactly when to inhale and exhale... must have been quite a shock to their systems. In the courtroom, the judge is king. In private service, 'etiquette' is whatever the lady of the house says it is. In the theater... the director rules supreme.

I think an old theater maxim really explains it best. There's all kinds of tension leading to opening night. But a standing ovation cures it all, and everyone loves each other again at the cast party.

Sounds like Burton was fundamentally insulted having to do the show in the first place, probably at Elizabeth’s insistence. In defense of Lucy, can you imagine carrying a hit show and an entire production company on your shoulders? You’re certainly not going to be a push over for anybody.

Wow, if Mickey was the Fonz, it would have changed my perception of him completely! I did not understand or notice Fonzie much... his attitude and concerns were alien to me, but Mickey was fun, and funny, and I loved the Monkees TV show. We didn't have cable as a kid, but my friend did, so I got to watch some of the episodes at her house.

I thought that Mickey Dolenz was completely the wrong actor to play Fonzy, as he looked like too much of a nice guy. Then I saw the picture of him as a biker, and I thought he looked to rough and scary to play the Fonz. Still, the producers of Happy Days weren't planning on the Fonz being a reoccurring character and Mickey Dolenz would have fit the role, but I don't think the character would have become the phenomenon that he became. John Travolta also looked like too much of a nice guy to play the Fonz.

There are a lot of inconsistencies in this recording that deserve fact-checking. It jumps around from Mimi acknowledging John being married to Cynthia to talking about his deportation issues, which occurred when he was with Yoko. There were some other questionable issues, but this one was a major point that I think would call into question whether this was actually said. Again, this transcript talks about her being disappointed with his relationship with Alfred when it's a fact that Lennon continued having a distant relationship with him besides giving his mistress a nanny position. In my opinion, this transcript might be false. I had doubts at first, but I am almost certain after listening.
@TonyBoyOhBoy3 күн бұрын
The person who transcribed it said there was more to this, but this was all they had transcribed. I'd love to hear the actual recording. Like I mentioned, it seems fairly clear that it was aired on the 1980s radio program mentioned. Maybe the recording can be ordered somewhere, if I find it, I'll post it.

from what was supposedly said mimi wasn't denouncing "socialism." she was denouncing those who, through capitalist corruption and greed, would exploit lennon's advocay of socialism. she says, and quite correctly, that "money corrupts." and that's precisely what socialism intends to end - the capitalist corruption. democracy is political socialism and socialism is economic democracy. they're both based upon social cooperation. and as betrand russel so eloquently said - "cooperation is the ONLY thing that can redeem mankind!"

Acording to John's sister Julia Baird, Mimmy stole John from his mother and it is clear that she used the fact that Julia Stanley was living with a man and married to Fred Lennon at the same time for this purpose. John's mother had also given in addoption a daughter previously.

The show didn’t “fail”-it was never meant to continue, it was only produced to fill the contractual obligations of Headmaster, which had been pre-sold to advertisers.

Lucille Ball had difficulties with 3 stars on her Lucy shows: Richard Burton, Tallulah Bankhead and Joan Crawford. The all had one thing in common: they were all alcoholics. (Came late to rehearsal, didn't know their lines, etc.) However, all the episodes worked out very well, particularly the one with the Burtons and Ms Bankhead.

In the Stage version Kenickie is supposed to sing Greese Lightning, not Danny. The Actor who played Kenickie in the Movie, Played Danny in the stage/Broadway. When he got the Kenickie part for the movie, he was excited to sing lead on Greese Lightning, but then they gave it to Travolta. Some people know too much Musical Trivia. I have a friend who is exactly that.
