I think the king Midas is a symbol of the old egotic patriarchal world, and the woman who grew out of him is a liberated awaken goddess. And she doesn't need him anymore because she understood his games, and that he could never really love her.

Omg, I didn't know I needed this. "But I'd rather be alone" resonates with me so much cause I've never had the same desire for romantic love the way most other people seem to. Same with the line "You needed someone close, and I never really did"
