Lol the best ones I can recall of their nation is when their ruler is a queen. Best to me is Elizabeth, the sheer balls to not marry anyone when everyone expects you to, unless of course you're put into a nunnery or something.

Actually it was the Tudors mainly who struggled to have male heirs , the Plantagenets and Normans did very well.

Ummm. There is a lot of countries in Europe who did that before Britain - where the first female monarch was crowned only in XVI century. Like for example in Poland, Hungary, different Italian countries, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Denmark, Norway. In Poland and Hungary they even went so far to crown their female monarchs as kings, not queens - so you have king Jadwiga of Poland or king Mary of Hungary, sisters both from XIV century.

To be a Tudor was to be a part of England’s greatest dynasty, but it was also a curse. They were blessed as historical legends, but they were also damned as one of the shortest-lived dynasties in the world.

@@SPQR872 Because in fact, the Tudors did a lot for the prosperity of England, turning a backwater island into a great country. They have improved the economy, diplomatic ties, and brought stability. They sent expeditions to the New World, defeated the Spanish armada, liberated England from the power of Rome. Everything that England has now was laid down under the Tudors. Even to this day, the symbol of England is the Tudor rose. It was a very active dynasty. So the Tudors aren't just about Henry VIII's six wives.

@@courts1436 through Henry’s sister Margaret Queen of Scots. She had a son called James V, who had a daughter called Mary Queen of Scots, who had a son called James. After Elizabeth I died with no heir the throne went to James as he had the most right, the line goes from there

No she hasn't, Henry viii ruled for almost 37 years 1509-1547, henry vii ruled for 24 years , Edward vi ruled for 6 years 1547-1553 and mary i ruled for 5 years 1553-1558, Elizabeth i ruled 44 years 1558-1603, so the tudor dynasty lasted for 116 years , Elizabeth the 2nd's has lasted for 94 years , however if u count the reign of all rulers from house Windsor, then yes the windsor dynasty(from george v to Elizabeth ii/present) has lasted a lot longer than the tudor dynasty, but i am pretty sure that the plantagenet dynasty last more than tudor and Windsor, don't u agree

@@galahad9 she know she was talking about Elizabeth II of England not Elizabeth I. If you reread, you can obviously spot that. She was going over how long Elizabeth I was on the throne including the rest of the head Tudor monarchs compared to how long Elizabeth II reign.

It’s kind of interesting that the Tudor dynasty only lasted for three generations, but still the Tudors seem to inspire a majority of the fascination with the past of English royalty. If one just compares the countless books, movies and TV series made on the war of the roses, King Henry and his wifes and Queen Elisabeth to the number of years their dynasty lasted, it seems quite ridiculous.

The Tudor's made the state government of England from religious policy, to domestic law, to foreign policy, to defence of the realm from both threats internal and external plus they also created the poor law. They covered every aspect of governance in England and thus English life. There influence can still be felt to this day. All of the England's governing architecture was layed down by the Tudors and their ministers, statesmen and lawyers. The names Wolsey, More and Cromwell are well remembered. Remember that one of the Tudors was crowned aged nine and still was better educated than his best minister in the governance of the realm.

The illegitimate son of Robert Dudley, as a result of an affair with Douglas Sheffield, grew up to be a brilliant and adventurous man, although most of what he accomplished was done outside of England. I've often wondered what sort of children Elizabeth I and Dudley would have parented if they had married and had children.

Edward and Mary Tudor have done more in five years each one of them than Elizabeth in more than thirty years and only she gets the credit. I think Elizabeth was very lucky from the start, her sister forgave her for the betrayal, her sister created the environment for Elizabeth to be accepted without a problem, but Elizabeth was not in fact a ruler of absolute authority she created this image of being the glorious queen, but it was all theater. In fact Elizabeth reigned under the supervision and regency of her advisers and that's when the fall of absolute monarchy began. For parliament saw that it had authority in Elizabeth's government, so when the next Stuart's monarchs arrive to reign absolutely, parliament rejects, and today we have only a purely decorative, constitutional monarchy. But coming back to Mary she actually ruled with absolute authority, she married whoever she wanted, she made religious reforms, fiscal reforms and structured the decaying british navy, tried to plan the English colonization of America, but everything was on paper, it was only the Stuart Kings who managed to actually and successfully initiate the British colonization of America. The Protestant Reformation itself was ended under Edward's rule. There is so much talk that it was difficult for Elizabeth to be a female monarch, but honestly? All pretenders to the throne of England at the time were women, and within those options she was the most desirable - she was not Catholic like Mary Stuart, Mary Tudor and Margaret Douglas and had popular appeal, which the Gray sisters never had. What really counted against was Elizabeth's legitimacy, but if we take into account that the Tudor claim to the crown itself was even more questionable... It is an injustice for history to ignore Mary and Edward in favor of Elizabeth

I don't think absolute authority is a good idea anyway. I much preferred it being split at least into two, so they can checked each other's actions, and ensure that one is not being too tyrannical. In theory. Better than hoping for the best that the next ruler is nice enough. The reason why her reign is golden age is because of her people's prosperity. From religious tolerance, to arts and literature. To fixing their inflation, and making their economy flourish. She's indeed very charismatic as well, and good in creating good publicity, that in turn, give her, her people's trust. She is a good politician. It's not a bad idea to ask for help and find the best ones on their field to assist you with what you cannot and didn't specialized in.

@@SnowSNS11 Queen Elizabeth I persecuted and condemned far more Catholics and Puritans (the more conservative Protestants) than Mary, and yet no one remembers her as Bloody Elizabeth and that is truly unfair. she gained a reputation for being tolerant! creating that image in 50 years of government, being succeeded by Protestant kings is easy. I pay to see if she had ruled for 5 years and succeeded pod kings of another religion.
