Thanks Aurora, the vibration on metal is properly called "chatter" in the machinist world. Chatter is Not always easy to predict or solve unless you are an experienced machinist.

Another top-notch presentation, thank you. I would love to have seen the slots being cut with a smaller diameter cutter, so it did not contact both sides of the slot at the same time. Also a light full-depth finishing or "spring" pass to show just how good the finish can be.

Great review. I own this machine and it is a work horse and have been extremely pleased with it's performance. I do have it placed on a very sturdy bench which does not move as you noted is required for this machine. I also upgraded the spindle to a 500 watt unit and use mostly quarter inch end mills and bits, but overall I love this piece of equipment and it's quality is outstanding. Ball screws would be nice, however it;s overall performance is just fine the way it's built. Well done review as always. Thumbs up for your review and this machine. Cheers.

I can just imagine the shock on your face when it flying through that plate and just coldly sliced off that whole corner. Not sure if you were more surprised that it do it so easily or upset that the plate got trashed though.

Excellent Review. Spindle power is a secondary factor. Seems like the more significant reason for better results with a router vs. the stock spindle is the collet system. On the stock spindle of this (and most other import table-top cnc routers), the collet chuck seems to be an arbor attachment that extends about 5-6cm (plus the cutter), introducing a large amount of flex in the cutter path. This is also why the wood and plastic engravings benefitted by a second-run (machinists call it a "spring-pass"). With the router spindle, the collet is integrated into the (1 piece) motor shaft, and is much more rigid (translates to less chatter). Some other comments correctly call-out climb vs conventional cutting which can be addressed with more complex toolpaths.

I received 2 of these routers off an Amazon returns pallet and I have never used them. I have one set up with a palm router ready to try. The other is still in its box which is really heavy. I have all the gear but no idea 😂

This was such a great review Aurora, that I just can't THANK YOU enough! 🙏🏻 I loved this review that I purchased this same model from Genmitsu. I am going to assume that you use Fusion 360 for your modeling based on your other videos, and was wondering what machine you used or selected in the manufacturing side of Fusion. I believe my issues in generating the right CN is in the machine that I've selected. Again, THANK YOU so much! ❤

When doing the clearance cuts on the tray, try going full depth of cut, but with .020-.025” (.5mm) radial depth of cut. Can up the feed as well with this setup. Better to engage more of the cutter flute and not do all the cutting with the tips of the end mill.

Also suggest using a 3 flute end mill in Aluminum and Brass. Single flutes are for plastic, and 2 flute tends to chatter more.
@PiefacePete46
@PiefacePete46 10 ай бұрын
@@stunod-RC : I am a great advocate of single-flute for aluminium... especially soft, extruded material. Not so critical for free-machining grades, like T6061 etc. The extra space around the cutting edge helps with chip evacuation and heat mitigation. Brass is not an issue normally; the chips are so fine they clear easily in two or three flute cutters.

I feel like on your step down review if you clamped it to a piece of wood so that the plate cannot chatter you would get a more consistent result as the slots closer to the vice jaw have more stability than in the middle.

Hello, First of all, great video and test. You have now tested both machines, which one would you recommend? Which is more stable and robust when milling plastic housings and 2mm aluminum? The 4030 V2 has ballscrew and better closed loop stepper motors. The 6050 Plus doesn't have that, but it has linear guides. Which machine do you think is more accurate? I don't care about the size of the design. It is important to have a reliable and stable milling machine. Thank you!

Both for this machine and the 4030, most of the gains in metal-cutting quality and performance were due to increased workholding and spindle rigidity, not power. For both machines, the Makita router improves rigidity, but that improvement was barely noticeable on the 4030, because its poor frame rigidity was such a weak link. Deflection caused by the weight of the Makita router is irrelevant, because it is constant and reasonably small deflection. Deflection caused by cutting forces is inconsistent, and therefore problematic for precision finish cuts. Spindle power only became relevant when taking that high-speed homing cut through the printer-bed carriage plate. There we learned that this machine has potential for deep, high-feed roughing. I assume that cut would have come out a bit cleaner, if the workholding didn't fail. Happy accidents. 17:46

Can you PLEASE review 6090 4axis CNCs, especially tell us the model and brand you use.
@AuroraTech
@AuroraTech 10 ай бұрын
I'm not quite satisfied with the quality of that steel 6090, it was an unbranded machine from Alibaba. The spindle is powerful, the machine is heavy, but it has various issues. The bed was uneven, coolant leaking from the bed to the bottom of the machine, the entire gantry is tilted, I was unable to tram the spindle level. While it's still usable for creating some aluminum parts for personal use, the price of $4000 seems too expensive for that quality.

Interesting review! Well done. I'm curious... isn't it normal to use some sort of cutting fluid when milling metal? That would increase the cutting rate, and make the mill end last longer.
@AuroraTech
@AuroraTech 10 ай бұрын
Yes, it would be better with fluid or coolant, but since I usually cut at a slower feed rate (200-300mm/m) and a 0.5mm step down on this kind of desktop machine, I prefer not to deal with the mess on a hybrid MDF and T-slot bed, the Makita router actually moving a lot of air and give the endmill "air cool". But I will use coolant when cutting with my 6090-steel structure machine with a 2.2kw spindle at a more aggressive speed at 500-800mm/m with 1mm step down.
