It’s refreshing to see an expedition vehicle that is economical and practical instead of having an unlimited budget! You have given me some great ideas for when we yanks can start importing the 78s starting in 2024!

Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. Yes you can build a great vehicle without buying all of the expensive/pretty accessories. Good luck with your future Troopy adventures.

Nice set up. To get rid of sand in the carpet I use an adaptor on my compressor hose that just blows the high pressure stream of air out - this 'shakes' the sand free and helps the Hoover suck it up.

Thanks Christopher Saul. Yes that is an effective method, I have done that a few times and it did work well. 👍

You've put a lot of though into that. Nice job. I'm just starting on my build. Cut the roof off a couple of weeks ago to fit the Hercules RTT. A nerve-wracking thing to do to a brand new car, but it turned out not to be too bad of a job to do. Took me 2 whole days, but I just did it steadily. Next on the list for me is fitting some water tanks, and then building the drawers/shelving. Thanks for posting.

nice vid guys, well done with the DYI draw set up bet it saved you heaps, as you now know there's always something else to add or change with the set up, would be interested to hear how you go with the dog while doing the lap - lots of places where they are not permitted.
@BackyardTouring2 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, yes we saved a ton of $$$ building our own setup. We knew taking Cooper would limit us but leaving him behind was not an option for us. We did put him in kennels a few times for places like Litchfield NP and Fraser Island. We did miss a lot of cool places but there were still plenty of great places to visit with Cooper. Thanks for watching and for the positive comment.

Great video! Why didn't you mention your 6th wheel on the roof? Is it possible just to bring along an inner tube as a second emergency tyre fix?
@BackyardTouring2 жыл бұрын
Haha, I knew I would forget to mention something! I am sure an inner tube or just a tyre could work but I grabbed this 6th spare last minute just before we hit the Gibb. It has worked out pretty well storing it on the roof too. Thanks for watching 👍

Great information. Looks like it works well and base for lots of fun. What budget would i need to allow ontop of a new troopie to get similar to your setup (including labour)?

Loved your video series guys. Can I ask for a short review of your water-cooled sealed alternator? I have a 76 on order and this is one thing I just can't decide on. No issues with it raising the water temp of the cooling system overall ? Can you give some info on what unit you chose ? Thanks in advance. Josh (subbed)
@BackyardTouring3 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, thanks for the positive feedback. We had our alternator fitted at PDP in Perth WA. Not entirely sure on the model, to be honest I wasn’t aware of different models, I just asked for a water cooled alternator. We have not noticed any increase in engine temps but we also haven’t been crawling through the bush in 35degree heat. We fitted it as an insurance as we knew we would be hitting some deep water crossings and possibly mud along the way. Nearly $3000 so not cheap but cheaper than breaking down in the bush with no cell coverage I thought. Enjoy your 76 👍
@troopydoopydoo76492 жыл бұрын
just carry a spare ans some spanners. It's like $3k for a waterproof one.
@zhiligan39353 жыл бұрын
how much does the troopy cost
@BackyardTouring3 жыл бұрын
Prices vary from dealer to dealer but prices are probably with in $5k of each other I’d say. Mods are endless, you could easily spend $150,000+ on mods if you include rear coil conversion and portals. 👍
@spudboy13283 жыл бұрын
The base GXL vehicle is about AUD$74K, which is a ridiculous amount for what you get, but there is no competition in this segment. And when you come to sell, they hold their value extremely well.

1) You need an authentic metal Sun Visor. Made by Hy Way Sun Visor's. 2) You don't need to correct the rear axle track. People who drive these vehicles everyday don't have a problem. Don't believe the hype. The myth was created by people over loading dual cab 70 series who said the steering was vague or non-existent. Your car is fine as it is.
@BackyardTouring3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advise, it would be a lot of money to spend after managing to complete a lap around Australia without it!
@adelarsen97763 жыл бұрын
@@BackyardTouring Yes. Imagine all the outback station owners, Park Rangers, surveyors, mining, police, government agencies who are using these vehicles everyday and who don't have a problem. The problem comes when 1 or 2 "supposedly famous" TV gurus say their is a problem and everyone follows their wrong advice. It perpetuates a myth.
@adelarsen97762 жыл бұрын
@@GR8Tmate Thanks for that. Yes, each to their own. Happy and safe travels.
