A friend had a 1750HL 1981 so would imagine these were fitted with that engine.

Wasn't this actually called a "Vanden Plas 1500", with no reference to Austin or Allegro ?

Lewis72 I think you are right....they did a 1750 version too
@lewis727 жыл бұрын
Bradley James Classics Yes, by then I think it was known as either a Vanden Plas 1.5 or 1.7. They should have tried to get the Rover V8 in it.

There were a handful of prototype luxury Vanden Plas models based on the Maxi, 1800, Marina, and Princess, even the booted Riley Elf/Wolseley Hornet Mini, that never went into full production. I don't think I've ever seen a Series 3 Allegro Vanden Plas.

@ronaldderooij17746 жыл бұрын
No it is Flemish. Van den means "of the" Plas means "small lake". So the "s" should be pronounced clearly.
@wernerbloemwagen68784 жыл бұрын
Apparently - reading through the comments here it all depends on how hoity-toity grand one would like to sound like : must admit that "vanden Plaa" sounds better than "vanden Plass".

@bradleyjamesclassics7 жыл бұрын
JAHNO71 sadly the Vanden Plas never had the square wheel
@MrThecarebear6 жыл бұрын
The square wheel was well rid of by BL before the Vanden Plas arrived. Didn't take them long to change the Allegro to a round steering wheel - BL just took one from the Morris Marina.
@Synthematix6 жыл бұрын
I should have had square wheels to probably would have improved it lmao
@MrThecarebear6 жыл бұрын
The Quartic wheel was disposed of by the time the Vanden Plas arrived and so all Allegros including this one had round ones. Which was easy for BL - they just took a steering wheel from the Morris Marina and stuck that on them.
@624radicalham6 жыл бұрын
Albie Stainer Look at the Thames TV video of the Vanden Plas. It says "rather thankfully we're back to a conventional round wheel for this model" implying that at least at airtime, the square wheel was still available in the Allegro WHILE the Vanden Plas was in production. I'd actually like to know what the reality was.
