I remember Brian May of Queen saying that people would complain at how their live versions were always different from the album. Brian May said something like "We might as well just play the record and put carboard cut outs on stage if that's what they want"

A couple more horns could have really blown this up, in a good way. I think nothing tops the raw intensity of the first time they played it on Letterman. Most versions I’ve seen have the guitars mixed pretty low which robs it of that intensity.

Check out their two performances on David Letterman. Just amazing. Way more energy and impact than this performance. [not saying this is bad, though. But it does suffer by comparison to the Late Show performances.]

If you need the crowd to enhance your performance, youre doing something wrong. Unfortunately it seems like these guys backbone. It turns out, their live sound engineer just really sucks. If you want to blame anyone, blame that guy.
