He passed away at his home in Waller, Texas. Dan, May your soul float on to the great beyond and you find peace. Your music will continue to touch the souls of everyone who has felt like an outsider, unwanted, and denied love. I send you all my adoration. Goodbye amazing poet.

I was fortunate to see Daniel perform in the early 2000’s. He sat most of the time and his meds made him gain weight and he had a terrible arm tremor. He was also chugging bottles of water between songs. He had all of his lyrics on a music stand to help him out. Truth is, is he made mistakes throughout the show, but I have never seen an audience pour out so much love for someone. We all knew his story, what his gift was, and how he survived. He could do no wrong that night. I’m glad he lived to see large adoring audiences. He got to be the star he always dreamed of becoming.

My brother is Bipolar and schizophrenic and I know how it is to have someone sweet behind all the medications and mood changes. He is starting to lose his teeth and getting the hand trembling from those harsh medications that keep him from the manic side. 😥 Thank you for your sweetness Daniel Johnston...RIP

I went to high school at Oak Glen in Chester WV...his drawings are all through our 1979 yearbook with him .. he was very talented and also Disturbed

The songs that Daniel Johnston wrote, musicalized and produced in the end are a sketch. By sketch I mean that, although the original version is unmatched and valuable in itself, all songs offer the opportunity to produce them with better technical quality and arrangements based on what Johnston only drafted due to its technical limitations. I will say it another way, many of us love Daniel's work, but this work will still have to be rediscovered and appreciated by talented musicians.

That doesn't matter as much as not smoking, being at a moderate weight, and not having to take prescription meds. Plenty of people eat meat and live long.
