Wow, this is quite a feat. 48 hours could be spread out into six 8-hour work days, which would turn into about 1 minute of final product per work day. With a team of 5, you could theoretically make a stiff, goofy, but entertaining animated feature film in 18 days. Add 1 week for concept development and an extra week for editorial, and that's an Asylum production. Nice job with doing the action, it worked! If you pre-rigged the characters so you could stream Xsens or Rokoko (even have someone perform remotely and pipe over IP to your computer) and just record the raw data into the project (you could then hand off the raw data for retargeting/processing while you continue working on other elements), you could create action really quickly that way too. This is a hell of a precedent. Congrats.

I’ve tried animating myself, and I have to say, for something that was done in 2 days, your short was seriously good. Keep in mind- Pixar and Disney take almost a year to make their movies

about 10 years ago i was attending a 3D modelling & animation school. I was there for about 2 years (before dropping out), and in all that time i made 2 short 30 second clips. The school held several workshops that mostly did not amount to anything, they really could have used this for inspiration. This just goes to show how much of a timewaste some schools can be.

you didnt need one more hour, you needed one more final hour lol. You should have given yourself 2 hours 24 times instead of 48 hours. If one could master that they could master life avoiding fighting when trying to do things quickly is probably a good idea, fighting is a conversation in itself that takes time to coordinate in a way that feels believable, moreso than a lot of other interaction elements its pretty decent though! The scene composition is pretty good for something so fast the story is probably the worst part tbh, since you had to cut out the kind of twist it doesnt read like a story so much as a list of events. Theres no 'but then' moment, though of course you planned a decent one so its just down to time

This is my daily routine at work... Making short animation from 2 or 3 lines on script in an hour (or two if I'm lucky). Interpret those 2 lines, search for suitable assets, build the set, animate, add post processing effect, render, edit sequence, then send it to editor, everything in those 1-2 hour deadline. The stress is real..!

looking back on this video, i kinda have the feeling this was around the time your channel began to forge a new, independent direction (in addition to retaining the high quality documentary style) that intersected with the bargain bin cinematic universe idea into your current slew of active projects. very cool to look back on. I also want to thank you because if I remember right, this video was just before semester-end that year, and coupled with the 2020 lockdown I had little else to do. I think the energy and almost creative madness of this video (to just reach out and try *something*) and the Exigency video really inspired me and led me to apply for a small writing gig. It fell through eventually but I did finish writing most of it, and it kind of reignited my individual creativity and helped me continue solo when my usual creative pursuits from pre-covid fell off due to restrictions in 2020 and 2021. so, thank you for that!

Hey Austin. I've watched this video before and this time I cut right to the end to watch the final product. What I noticed this time is that this really did feel like a scene from out of a movie. The solider was combating like he had been fighting these things all day and had maybe even discovered a weak point (High center of gravity?) Anyways, great job. It was fun watching again and discovering new aspects.

I'm making a few 3d animated shorts which includes my own voice acting as well as mocap and models (ofc downloaded ones will be included since I'm a 1 man band lol), and I'm not worried about it being perfect cause Baldur's gate 3's animation isn't perfect yet it's still an amazing game. Plus again, "one man band" - I just want to get my story across and hopefully the mocap will help it go by quicker😅. I'm not planning on taking a year to make a film but I'm sure as hell down to take a few months if needed. I won't be getting paid for this at all, and I don't even have a mocap suit so I'm going to have to use tho lovely AI mocap software's, and deal with my decent computer for rendering, but so far everything has gone pretty smoothly and my new motto is "work with your limitations, for they open up new opportunities" and they rlly do. I would love a team, and some friends to help, but not a lot of people can say they've made a complete film all by themselves💖
