Australia has a 'multipartisan opposition to the death penalty': PM

Prime Minister Scott Morrison says Foreign Minister Marise Payne has raised the case of Karm Gilespie, the Australian man sentenced to death in China, with her Chinese counterpart.
Mr Gilespie was sentenced to the death penalty 6.5 years after he was arrested on drug smuggling charges.
"Australia's opposition to the death penalty is bipartisan, multipartisan, unanimous, principled, consistent and well-known,"Mr Morrison told parliament during Question Time.
"We advocate consistently with the abolition of the death penalty world wide by every diplomatic avenue available to us.
We will continue to provide Mr Gilespie with consular assistance. Our thoughts are with him, his family and his loved ones."

Wrong. You don't know how dark this world is. I fully support the death penalty for the most serious crimes. You go soft, and you get a country of people who don't respect the laws.

An Australian citizen outside of Australian soil is subject to laws of that respective country. Australia like any western country does not rule the world. The said Australian citizen also is subjected to the punishment given out in that country. It is the failure of the Australian government to be unable to ensure their citizens follow laws in other countries. Every country has the right to enforce their laws on their own soil to anyone. Australia has no right to interfere.

@Jack Russell I'm talking about the inmates who would be on death row, the worst of the worst who are beyond guilty and have no remorse. These animals are not innocent, they are just plain evil.

If your driving along following the road rules and someone jumps out in front of your car and dies can you get sent to prison for life? Do any of you guys know? They charge you with manslaughter and send you to prison for a very long time right?

@@jhowardsupporter I have no idea how it works here. Rapists and murderers seem to only get months. Might have something to do with how expensive it is to keep them locked up that makes the court system avoid gaoling people for long periods and will give them the lesser punishment if the public allows it.
