Australia’s Energy Plan: Predicting the weather 20 years in advance!?

The Albanese government keep telling Australia that an energy system dominated by renewables can be cheap and reliable. But did you know that ensuring this grid reliability rests on the assumption that we can predict the weather 20 years in advance?
The Australian Energy Market Operator, known as AEMO, is responsible for releasing an updated Integrated System Plan, or ISP, every two years.
In a truly reliable system, electricity supply must meet demand 24/7 or there will be blackouts. But is the energy system the ISP models actually reliable?

As someone who lives in an area with volatile weather patterns, I can verify with 99.9999999~% confidence that they can't even consistently predict the weather accurately within 3 days. Forget about 20 years. The "green" energy space is just another grift. Incidentally, if you're a fan of BTC, you can't be for "green" energy. The two are mutually exclusive.

That graph of "Solar capacity" the CIS made up is a lie. I've downloaded the AEMO ISP draft, and it doesn't exist. 🫣 They don't predict the wheather they do how ever account for 8 day renewables 'drought' when to say even 2 days of no sun and wind is extremely rare. But there will be enough storage and gass firming to last even 8 days of no sun wind, which is ridiculous.

Looks like everyone has about 20 years to save up for solar panels and a battery and go off grid.

With all that uranium you’d think the aussies would be the first to adopt nuclear. Surprised there’s a stigma about it, considering you sell the stuff overseas for power generation (if not weapons).

Don't be silly We need that to sell to other countries for their power stations Just like we pay for inflated food as all ours goes overseas as better quality Then we import the 💩 quality in for us to eat at inflated prices Look at Cray fish cheap now China refused to buy Why lamb so expensive on boats to Muslim countries

Good on you Zoe and CIS for Part 1, looking forward to the next of this series of myth-busting our energy transition! Such big claims from AEMO CEO Daniel Westerman but the message is anything but “clear”, I’m not really sure “renewable energy powered by solar and wind backed up by batteries, hydro, and gas… connected by new transmission” is the “lowest cost replacement”. Maybe in the near-term but such shortsightedness doesn’t get us value for money: Globally, data from BP Statistical Review 2019 and BNEF, Loverina et al 2016 suggest that from 1965-2018, global spending reached US$2 trillion for nuclear and US$2.3 trillion for solar and wind and we got twice the energy output from nuclear. Let’s end the ban please.

Thank you for this common sense post. Absolutely nuts for Labor not to embrace nuclear base power generation. Specially this year where we have had significant claud cover, power from solar panels would have been significantly reduced (it would be nice to see some statistics on this).

when they say solar costs x amout for 1 gigawatt of power they mean thats the max output. From just night time you have to half that equation and all the other factors like clouds, winter short day etc acutally means its 5x the amout they quote unlike nuclear or gas 1 gigawatt means 1 gigawatt 24/7

The aemo bossman should have to do a personal interest's test, things like where his investments are. If he's making decisions that affect us and our children's future, then he shouldn't hold investments in energy and renewables at all, otherwise it could be construed that there could be some personal gains on his behalf, and if that's the case, he should be answerable

AEMO, as well as the politicians who are pushing for RE's, should be investigated. As always, follow the money.

Also these climate change experts are always talking about carbon emissions to save the planet but what they dont mention is that the earth is on 100 000 year cycle where the axis shifts added with the moon moving away from earth slowly this also greatly affects climate as well.

This analysis assumes the electricity supply relies entirely on solar. So don't. Electricity should be generated by a range of technologies and hence not depend on any one source.

It's a propaganda video like all their others. So stupid, but dumb ppl will fall for it or the completely bias one's who want to hear it. It commits the blatant logic fallacies of cherry picking, straw man and red herring.

Is this a flimsy and poorly developed argument for the coal industry Zoe? Create some doubt and buy more time for the coal industry? Whether you believe in climate change or not, the fact is the majority of the world does and policy initiatives like the European Green Deal to name one will impact on our future economic prosperity. It time to stop reacting to extreme left wing climate emergency politics and focus on the emerging opportunities for Australia. It’s true, decarbonisation is a significant engineering challenge for our economy. It is also true that sticking our heads in the sand will not progress our interests in the future. We are living through a significant paradigm shift every bit as significant as the first Industrial Revolution; a movement we are unable to stop. We are not powerless and the opportunities for innovation and growth are real which requires Australia to address continuity of supply issues head on. What’s your solution Zoe?
