Australian ex NSW government railways, Alco Locomotive 4532, sporting its mighty V12 251c engine, chugging tirelessly through the night on its mission to Inverleigh in Western Victoria. With every litre of of diesel burned and every piston stroke, this magnificent beast has been hauling ballast trains along the western line, laying the foundation for an ever-evolving railway network. Its mechanical symphony reverberates through the darkness, a testament to the resilience and power of this iconic locomotive.

I remember seeing this on the 5th of November last year and was a really nice thing to see, I filmed it passing near Elders Loop on the Western Standard Gauge line and that was also the same day when Steamrail was running their steam Rail & Sail tour to Geelong. This loco was coupled up to GM 10 & 27 and also huge thanks to the driver for dumping the smoke, good to see these old locomotives still running well. I also only realized now that its the last 45 class locomotive that is still in normal service.

What a beautiful old girl. I absolutely love SSR's vintage fleet. Unlike EMD's Vintage Alco's are a VERY rare sight. It's too bad it took them so long to resolve their 244 series prime mover issues. The 251 was the right answer. It was just too late to save their reputation and business. Very happy to see this one still putting in work.

The big brother of the humble "48" class, few survivors, just 607 and 4532 in active revenue service, roomy cab and good pullers they are, crap all over a rubbish 80 class. Like the "haute cuisine" scene at 1.14. Still a few of their cousins running in India, but mostly all retired and scrapped over there too. Thanks Adam, nice one.😉

Goodday Adam, So good to see it leading I thought its days of leading were behind them. I can smell the engine room now. Doesn't sound like its working hard could do with some oil. Sounds like 400 rpm . 4500's look awesome high hood old skool 3 axle just look awesome. Cheers Louis Kats 👍

@AUSSIETRAINDRIVER Not a massive fan of Gen Electric. But those alcos.. Loved 48's, 830's, 442 & 80's. Never got to steer or fire on a 45 unfortunately. Got to ride in the cab of a 44 when I was a young lad.
