Agreed. It was in extreme heat and they fought like gladiators. I was going for Kerber because I didn’t know much about Halep before this match but I instantly became a fan.

I love this match. Can't get over how perfect the symmetry of the match point saves in the third set were: two saved by Kerber at 4-5, one by a winner, one by a Halep unforced error; two saved by Halep at 5-6, one by a winner, one by a Kerber unforced error. (A third match point save from Kerber at 7-8 upsets the symmetry, but still.) And those rallies, my lord. The third set might be my favorite set of tennis ever. Edit: AO proving, once again, the superiority of their KZfaq channel.

Halep would have the AO in 2018 if she hadn’t played that record breaking long match against Davis and then this long grueling semi final and Wozniacki would not not have won her only slam. As a Halep fan even though she didn’t win - this slam was her finest moment.

I’d forgotten how great this match. Actually if Halep hadn’t played that record breaking long match with Davis and this long semi final match she would have won the Australian Open and Wozniacki would never have gotten her only slam.

And the drama of this match going past 6-all with multiple MP saves is just something you don't get with the TB. Notice how nobody was demanding there be a TB in the final set when Simona played two extended matches at this AO. But John Isner plays the longest Wimbledon SF in history, the knee jerk reaction is to change to TBs and shoehorn the women into this, when no woman has an unbreakable serve.

Ah man what a match! Some high level tennis from both ladies. I still feel Halep would’ve beaten Wozniacki in the final if it wasn’t for the gruelling match she had with Lauren Davis. To beat Wozniacki (and Kerber) you need to have a substantial amount of gas in the tank and I remember towards the end Halep had absolutely nothing left. I was just so gutted for her.

Because of the AO rules in what concerns the decider.

The AO rules said that: if in the decider the score becomes 6:6, the players must go on playing games until one of them can get 2 games more than the other.

@@woonhakk In a certain way, yes. But sometimes, also the other 'Opens' break the normal rules and offer another one for the decider, favouring the players to spend less/more time on court.
