My opinion after experienced KFC and Maccas from both countries, I would say that Malaysian KFC and Maccas are not a joke. They really put high standard of taste for thier line up menu. The idea is, if they cannot catch up the standard taste which offered by street hawkers and restaurants out there, thier franchise business will be failed because no one will gonna buy from them.
@BucketListTravellers

Hi Leodavinc, you raise a good point! The street hawkers are much cheaper than the fast food restaurants, so they have pressure to be high quality to compensate for the higher prices.

It's juicy because, the chicken is supposed to be fresh everyday direct from the farm WITHOUT being frozen! That piece of chicken is the original recipe, NOT the spicy version.
@BucketListTravellers
@BucketListTravellers Жыл бұрын
That is good to know, yeah that chicken definitely tasted more like original rather than zinger!
@Udin_Nobita34
@Udin_Nobita34 Жыл бұрын
The crispier chicken is the hot and spicy, the zinger is just the burger itself. And a little correction about the juicyness of the chicken. Not because of the chicken is fresh from farm or not been frozen. All the chicken actually came in Frozen condition, still the put it in the large freezer room. For hot and spicy chicken they marinated before going to the freezer. All the chicken is kept in the freezer so it can withstand for 3 or 3 days before cooked.
@Udin_Nobita34
@Udin_Nobita34 Жыл бұрын
Also.. another explaination about the juicyness of the chicken is...the cooker machine itself. The chicken is deep fried inside the cooker machine, and it's also steamy inside not just boiling oil but also steamy. Thats how it get ths juicyness.

When it comes to anchovies used as condiments in nasi lemak, they're not dried but fried. However, different vendors use different types of anchovies. Some use large anchovies, others medium or small (~2.5 cm length). Large fried anchovies do tend to be a little bit tough to chew after they've cooled down. The best ones for frying are the medium and small ones. Anyway regardless of the size, they also have to be peeled apart, basically split down the middle by taking off the head and tearing away the part where their stomach, intestines, etc. are located and then split apart into 2 halves. All using your fingers. Then you deep fry them and they'll be crispy and juicy. They're naturally salty too so no need for salt for flavouring either.
@BucketListTravellers
@BucketListTravellers 3 күн бұрын
Thanks for sharing your insights about anchovies, very fascinating! It would be pretty time consuming to split each anchovy apart,. It makes you appreciate the meal even more! Thanks for watching.

Ah been a while now since my last kfc, because the city that I am in now they don't have halal kfc 😔 My favorite was definitely the cheesy wedges yumm! 😋 I also loved the colonel burger, used to be my go to lunch menu whenever I was rushing for meetings etc, I also loved their coleslaw which had a tinge of sweet taste, plus with its tiny bucket packaging it made for easy consumption/handling while in the car. But, a word of caution though, if in sarawak, I avoided getting the coleslaw because the kfc there prepared it differently, the cabbages etc seemed like they were blended (ie using blender) such that they got too tiny rendering the texture different than the usual kfc's coleslaw and affecting the taste as well. However I'm not sure whether this is the standard for all kfc's in sarawak or only for the ones I happened to go to

As for Sarawak KFC have different coleslaw is because they no longer get supply from Malaya(West Malaysia). Don't know about Sabah KFC though. It started a few years ago(pre-Covid time) when several states in Malaya suffered floods, which somehow affected the coleslaw supply. Well, that was what I've been told.

Someday..you should try the KFC in Bali for comparison. They kinda incorporated local menu (just like nasi lemak) and pretty good too! For the time being,enjoy your stay,try more local food for memories..and to really absorb our culture,try the hawker foods. Baba Nyonya cuisine in Malacca, Chakoi in pasar malam @ night market, late night char k tiau, cendol on a hot day,local kopitiams with roti canai banjir ..kopitiams in ipoh.. While you enjoy the food, perhaps if u have questions on the origin or perhaps story behind each food, just ask around..or ask us! We would gladly share our versions as well❤
