Hey guys this is Curtis, your Autel Diagnostic Consultant. Today I would like to share with you a case study on how I helped a client program a Vin number to a used Ford PCM module. The client is a mobile technician and he was stranded with no resolutions as the IM608 could not do the Vin Programmable Module Installation procedure.
Normally to do this procedure all you need to do is click programming and look for a programmable module installation (PMI) which is a sequence in that the software will save all the original PCM's information in our tool, then prompt you when to put the replacement module on it. Next, it will then transfer all the information to the replace module
With this specific vehicle which is a 2001 Ford F-250 it does not have this functionality on the IM608 so to do this procedure will be using J2534 with the OEM subscription in a Windows 10 laptop thanks so much and I hope you enjoy the video.

Any idea why I wouldn’t be able to enter the full VIN in the programming process within the Ford software? I’ve got a 2007 F350 that I’m programming a PCM that was replaced and the original isn’t available. Thanks

I have the old one and I’ve got a new one that is reprogrammable.. the old one is got got 2 bad spot in the broad when I hook a code reader on it It say the truck is safe to drive so how would I get the new one programmed I can’t the the info off the old one

Hi Master i have a big big big cuestión I hope you can help me, I have 2 AUTEL Scan ms908 and ts608, I buy in USA and I activated in USA and I used this tools in USA for 2 years, I think go back to Mexico my country, now The cuestión, Wat happens if I try to work in Mexico with my AUTEL Scan tools. in Mexico have a lot different car models and brands different and other same to USA, #1 my Scan tools work for this Mexican vehicles , or I need make 1 update to my tools for México? # 2 ir my AUTEL Scan tools is not working at all en México? .

Are we able to use ford ids and autel j2534 for as built data? For example I have a 2017 ford mustang flood damage bcm so i read the bcm mcu on the bench and wrote to the donor. Now car starts but I have faults for module configuration incomplete. It would have been better to program donor bcm with asbuilt data if I'm capable with j2534.

You can use Forscan to write the As-built data with no problems

The Auto MP808 Has the ability to Reprogram modules on Fords. It works for all 3 of my vehicles. 2000 Focus ZX3, 2004 F-150 STX 4x4, & 2009 Escape XLT. I almost didn't purchase this scanner because of this and Autel claimed on their website that it didn't do it but I took a chance on it and I was surprised to find the programable modules feature on my Scanner. Haven't actually tried the feature out yet but I will soon because I need to replace a bad RCM on the Focus.

You are very fortunate. State one tools dont have alot of coding on them but enough for vehicle from 1996 to 2010 . I think when you get into new models it might be limited in coding . But im glad it worked out for you.

Hello, its hard to pin point the situation as I would need to log in remotely to do some test. But on the surface it may be one of the keys your using is problematic. You can try purchasing another key and see if thats the solution.

Hi Curtis, I am one of your MaxiSys Elite clients. The terminology used here is "inhaling" the data from the other modules. The F-Series trucks are a bit different than the other vehicles in regards to reprogramming .

Is the J2534 module imperative to change a vin or is it vehicle dependant? I have a 2008 Nissan Note,(UK) that I wish to change the ECU to a used replacement unit. I still have the original ECU.

HI Charley . I use the j2534 as a back up if the autel software doesnt have the feature. Some oem subscriptions allow vin writing, some dont.

U dnt need a jbox to do that on those. Go in NATS there is an option for used PCM swap

@@AutelConsultancy Unfortunately not. Im living in germany and the european supplier couldn't give me any informations at all. So i contacted the US supplier and they couldn't give me infos either.

It is kind of strange because the device is about to be released (so it should exist physically at least by now) and no one can tell me the capabilities.

@@cyberdarknes Yea , the did the same thing with the ADAS systems. And they are still working on some features so they are not going to release anything until its been tested and confirmed

Does this work with a newer model like 2011 fusion cause I tried and ran into a problem but maybe because I wasn't turning on the key after I wrote the vin?

It should work. I know on newer vehicles the manufactures kind of shy away from us using second hand modules. But it should work for that vehicle. Im not sure if there is something wrong with the module you purchased . Check to see if it has the right tear tag information

@@marcopisanti8932 Ive managed to use windows 7 . If the operating system was not compadible I dont think you would be able to install/ load the software . You are probably going to need someone to log in and diagnose / trouble shoot what the problem is. It could be a variation of things that to difficult to diagnose with out inspecting

@@AutelConsultancy ok so after 2 days of trying the problem was the windows 7 wasn't connecting to the server I tried a windows 10 PC and was able to proceed to module programming (PROBLEM SOLVED)

The Tear Tag is typically a four-digit identifier of the PCM. It can be found on the label on the vehicle PCM, on the PCM's plastic housing , or on the shock tower or passenger's side door jam . It can also be found on the inner fenders or strut tower, or in the door jams . If the Tear Tag number is not listed, enter your full Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) at the Ford Tech info service website ( as build data)

Hey Josh. Do you have the Orignial PCM ( Keep it if you can) Ford is 50 USD for 72 hours. Did you check if autel has the Programmable Module Installation? if it does ( and you have the orginal module) then we will be able to just use your autel. Let me know
