I have always wanted to build a full sized toe pincher coffin as one of my Halloween Props, but I wanted to make it durable and do it using cheaper wood and with little waste. This coffin uses 13 1"x6"x6' fence boards and comes together in a fantastic way to build a prop that will stand the test of time for years to come!
Edit: For some reason the first few minutes of the video is tipped about 2º... I'm not sure how that happened, but consider it artistic flair.. lol

Thanks so much @jacobwright238 I worried that I was being a bit too neurotic with the angles and the pieces for something as simple as a prop coffin. Though I like to make things as historically accurate when I can as I love to go on the knowledge journey when I build these things. I wish I had put cross supports on the front of the coffin and it's something I may go back to make a new video to add them. This has sat in my side yard since this video was made and it is just as good, if not better than the day I made it. Thanks for watching!

Thanks Wilsocn! I actually keep this thing out in the elements in the side yard of my house all year and the colour on it has darkened a bit more and just looks fantastic. I should post a new pic to instagram! Thanks for watching!

The skeleton is saying, "Ahhhhhh...now I can rest in my nice comfy coffin."💀⚰️😄 It's cool to see how the whole scene is coming together with the crosses and everything!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Awesome!

Bones is such a helpful assistant! He never even asks for lunches or anything! I want to show how you can slowly build up using the tutorials to a full scene, where everything I put in my videos you can build. It might take a while, but the results are pretty great :). Thanks for watching Fraidy! Ak ak ak ak!

Excellent video! Thanks for posting. Your construction design and finishing techniques are par excellence. I watched the video Saturday night and built one on Sunday afternoon. The 6' picket fence lumber is cheap and your design is very strong and efficient. I used your sheets as my guide and I changed nothing as I constructed my coffin. Keep up the great work. Your comments and musing on the video are hilarious.

Thanks for the kind words Darin! I am so happy the drawing and the video got you quickly to having one of these built and I agree the design is very solid. The best part is you built one, that makes me above all the happiest! These props are great fun! Thanks so much for watching 😀

I really need to make one of these. I’ve never done it before and who doesn’t need a toe pincher!?

Let’s be honest, none of us really want to need a coffin, and when we do, we usually no longer have a say in the matter 😂. Lol. Thanks for watching Weird kid 😀

I really love the tea finish, it's super cheap to make and really makes something aged up super quick! It also lasts real well, some crosses I built using it look amazing almost 6 years later. Thanks for watching Salvage Monster!

love the saying that it adds to the character, if we are making something OLD LOOKING is that not the first thing we aim for ? and this is why i love this channel , informative, great ideas and love for the project at hand and helps inspire others to try and do the same or at least have a go, fail once...i bet you won't fail after the 4th try, you will be a master, have fun guys/girls and thanks for the vids Samhain

Thanks for the Kind words Dave Rahul! I like the fact that screw ups can sometimes add a unique touch to a prop that you would not be able to achieve by trying, antique props are particularly forgiving as textures and colors are never set in stone, so it really is a great project to cut your teeth on. The only problem with wood is unlike foam, I can't avoid all the more specialized tools that you need to work it.

@@SamhainPropworks a hand saw, sand paper and STRONG glue could get anyone to build this, just take your time and patience is the key, then have fun with the finish

Oh I could build this thing with a hand saw, wanting to do it with a handsaw is something else! lol. I remember growing up we were not allowed to turn the power on the bandsaw, but it did not stop us manually turning the bull wheel on it to make the blade go so we could saw stuff!

@@SamhainPropworks Thats exactly what i mean mate, come on guys/ girls we can do this with hand tools, just take's a little longer, and you will be surprised how it will turn out. has you took extra care doing it by hand tool's , but, by all means use power tool's if you have them, i love power tools, and i love my hand tools, and i always say, use what you have been first given

The coffin turned out great! I hadn't seen anyone else weather lumber as well as you have. The scoring and gouges on the wood really make it stand out.

Thanks Blanck! This is more of a "This is what you can do, now run with it" type video. You can make these coffins to be as simple or complicated as you want, but I try not to get too over the top so people can still build them in a weekend :) The wood stain is something I really love, as it ages fresh pine so you can have a great prop right away but at the same time, the longer it sits, the better it will become (Without repainting or restaining). I just walked past this coffin in my side yard and my stain has oxidized a bit more to give the whole thing an even better brownish tone that it had even in this video. The wood stain has so many ways it can be used, it is such a favourite of mine. Anyways, enough rambling! Thanks for watching!

@@SamhainPropworks My first couple of coffins were plywood. Now my preferred method is 6 - 6 foot long 1x12 pine boards.
@SamhainPropworks
@SamhainPropworks 2 жыл бұрын
How do you find the cupping on those 12" boards? I was fighting it pretty bad on my 6' ones, mind you they are not exactly top of the mill boards, just fence wood.
@BlanckMortuary

I buy the 1x12 s from same aisle as the oak,poplar and birch. The quality lumber. Never had any cupping issues

starting this project tomorrow out of re-claimed pallets, awsome job mate, i don't have a biscuit jointer, but i can show you how i can use left over threaded rod on the farm to bring boards together and than make them vanish, and it adds extra weight, love weight in something realistic
@SamhainPropworks
@SamhainPropworks 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dave! The biscuit jointer is one of those tools most people don't know that it exists, but if they ever see one at a garage sale after catching this video they might add it to their tools for future projects! Threaded rods works (I grew up calling it ready rod), or a more budget form is just drilling wood dowels into the edge as well! I will most likely use different ways in the future for future projects as I like to not avoid but not rely on a specific way of doing things to make sure these props remain accessible to most :). Thanks for the watch!
