Elena's Travels

Күн бұрын

In this video, I'm traveling to the Ural Mountains in Russia to experience authentic rural life. I'm living in a Russian village, and enjoying the simple, good-life-style that is typical of rural Bashkortostan.
If you're looking for a relaxing vacation, or want to learn about Russian provincial life, then this travel vlog is for you! I'll show you around the village, introduce you to the local people, and explain the culture and traditions of rural Bashkortostan. This is a good way to learn about real Russian countryside, without all the tourist hype!

Your presentation of your tour through this village did not leave me with any feeling of depression. Most villages and small towns have a similar air of quiet simplicity. Theses are the places where the real people live. The vision of the horses running freely through the open spaces of the village was a comforting snap shot of daily life there. Altogether, your observations and impressions gave us the feeling of what daily life in rural Bashkiria is like.

I really enjoyed the videos of your visit to the area during the summer, so it was great to get to revisit it. To me, the town was not depressing at all but rather charming, and it seemed like such a lively place. It was quite refreshing to see folks of all ages there, because one often hears of Russian villages being only old folks' homes at this point. And a what a beautiful setting with the greenery, flowers, and mountains in the background. You really could not have picked a nicer day to film. These are the kinds of places I like to try to visit when I travel abroad! (They can be hard to find though.)

Industrial heritage can be quite a big draw if it is developed. We have some of the earliest industry machines including the big winding wheels for mining that draw people who wish to research how we used to live and work. Quad bikes are useful for herding and access to the hills...if it's like our rural areas.

See you in your next video!

I love it when you are doing narration while you are exploring these places. Your discovery seeing things the first time is shared with your audience. My son lives in Birmingham. Like this village, it was founded in their location because of proximity to iron ore, limestone and coal. All are necessary to produce iron. Your videos have a way of sharing your exploring. Way to go, very cool.

I would not call it a depressing village, but rather a remote village. Many villages in other countries and also located off the beaten track have abandoned houses and closed factories. It's interesting for us to see how this looks in a remote part of Russia, and how people manage to live there. Such small iron works cannot compete against large scale industrial plants. In Germany or Belgium, they have turned much larger factories into museums. Look for example at "World Heritage Site Völklinger Hütte". That wheel you admired was most likely a part of the blower plant that blows air into the furnace to melt the iron.
@elenastravels
@elenastravels Жыл бұрын
Maybe you're right! I haven't been to many villages abroad... Interesting about the wheel! It could be part of the blower plant, but for some reason it was written next to the monument that it's dedicated to the first railroad... I'll look into it!
