I visited the famous Tlemcen known as the Pearl of the Maghreb or the Granada in Africa, this beautiful city is famous for its Andalucian architecture.
I start the day exploring on my own before meeting up with my friend Chaima, a local girl from Tlemcen, that showed me around some of the top places in the city.

Tlemcen, the former capital of Algeria, is an ancient Algerian city from the time of Numidia. It was several times coveted by Western neighbors, to the point of being besieged on one occasion when they tried to seize it for eight years without success. It is the city of martyrs during the Great Liberation Revolution, such as Colonel Lotfi, may God have mercy on him. It is one of the most beautiful and ancient Algerian cities. This art is found in Spain because general Tarek Ibn Ziyad and his army, all Amazigh from Algeria, invaded Spain in 711. Tarek was a chaoui, or descendant of the Numidians. The Amazigh dynasties ruled Spain for centuries. The name of Tlemcen is Amazigh, which means the forgotten fountain I believe. Additionally, Tlemcen was ruled by the Ziyanids, an Amazigh dynasty. Spain brought us nothing because it tried to destroy us for centuries.

@@paulocastrogarrido3499 Nope, the mechouar goes back to the 13th century. As for the palace style in Grenada here is the genealogy: first palace with zirid style goes back to the Hamadit dynasty (a branch of zirid) in 10-11th century, then it migrated to Grenada first and then back to NA mainly to Tlemcen and Fez.

Next and end of the Algeria History : It must be understood that Algeria and Morocco have never been part of the same nation. This is a false belief that Moroccans like to believe in order to sow confusion. It’s simple, North Africa, long before it was called Algeria, Tunisia or Morocco, was called this: Algeria was called the Central Maghreb. Tunisia was called the Eastern Maghreb. Morocco was called the Western Maghreb. The only period where the 3 countries formed a single territory was long before the concept of borders, during the Neolithic (Prehistory). Logical isn’t it?! What gives Algeria greater wealth than Morocco is that it is here in Algeria that the very first human inhabitants of North Africa settled. North Africa was inhabited by prehistoric men and it was Algeria which was first inhabited and populated. Then they split into tribes to colonize the rest of North Africa. This is why Algeria contains so many rock engravings and paintings. This is also why Algeria has the most beautiful and largest concentrations of rock paintings in the world. Hence the nickname “Algeria, the largest open-air museum on the planet”. Little anecdote: according to the discoveries of researchers, archaeologists and anthropologists, it is believed that the first European inhabitants came from North Africa, precisely from Algeria. So, the first colonizers of the European continent came from Africa precisely from the prehistoric tribes established in Algeria. They had colonized southern Spain and Portugal. Over the millennia, Europe ended up being entirely inhabited by their descendants who became Europeans. Their skin (melanin) has adapted to the cold climate of Europe. It's fascinating. We don't realize it, but Algeria has always been a fundamental and important story for humanity.

Under the Romans Algeria (Mauretania Caesariensis and Mauretania Sitifensis) and Morocco (Mauretania Tingitana) were together, the same happened during the Umayyad, Almoravid and Almohad periods. Basically about 1500 years together until the formation of Hafsid Emirate of Béjaïa and Zayyanid Kingdom of Tlemcen in the 13th century, these two kingdoms were conquered by the Ottomans in the 16th century. You need to get some facts right.

Later, the Zyanides from eastern Algeria conquered the west, they first founded the city of Tlemcen, then their Merinid brothers (Béni Merin) of the same tribe from the Aures, conquered the west of Tlemcen and annexed Fez and even Marrakech for centuries. It was the Merinids who spread the art of the Zyanides and Zirid of Algeria in Morocco and not the other way around. Morocco then took over the art of Zellige at the end of the 20th century for its tourism, which is why today in Morocco you can find hotels and restaurants with Zellige art everywhere, while in Algeria, it has been abandoned. The origin of this ornament comes from Algeria. In addition, if you visit Granada in Spain, he makes it clear that they are the ZIRí of Algeria.

There are many other places that are colder than Tlemcen, especially those that lie at high altitudes. Andalusians are primarily of mixed ancestry, resulting from centuries of interaction and intermarriage among various ethnic groups in the Iberian Peninsula, including Arabs, Berbers, Visigoths, and others. Historically, Andalusia was under Muslim rule for several centuries, which included both Arab and Berber populations. As a result, the Andalusian population has diverse origins, with contributions from both Arab and Berber heritage, along with other ethnic groups. So, it's not accurate to categorize Andalusians solely as Arabs or Berbers; rather, they are a blend of various ethnicities. Cities such as Algiers, Oran, Tlemcen, and Constantine have historically had significant populations of Andalusian descent. Tlemcen, in particular, has a strong connection to Andalusian heritage, as it was a major center of Andalusian culture and learning during the medieval period. The city's architecture, music, and cuisine bear traces of its Andalusian influence. While Andalusian communities are most prominent in the northern coastal areas, their descendants can be found in various parts of Algeria, contributing to the country's diverse cultural tapestry. Zelij, also known as zellige, is a traditional form of mosaic tilework found in both Morocco and Algeria. It is a prominent feature of Islamic architecture and can be seen in mosques, palaces, and other historic buildings throughout North Africa. While zelij has deep roots in Moroccan craftsmanship and design, it is also present in Algerian architectural traditions, particularly in regions with historical ties to Moorish influence, such as parts of Algiers and other cities. Therefore, zelij can be considered as belonging to the cultural heritage of both Morocco and Algeria.

@@elmehdinafia1237here we're talking about the origin of zelij. Zelije is not only morrocan. It's has his origin in ALL El Maghreb, including Algeria, Tunisia etc. Moroccans made Zelije their cultural heritage and that's why you see more Moroccan artisan craftsmen. In Tunisia and Libia you find also very old buildings with old zelije. Once again we are talking about the origin of zelije and this was in all region of El Maghreb. El Maghreb is originally: Libia, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Western Sahara and Mauritania. Please look it up and educate yourself about history.

Morocco is the Latinised European name for 'Marrakesh' and never existed as a country until the French gave it independence in 1956. All that existed before were dynasties that took over what's known now as 'Morocco' from the Saudis Idrissids to the Mauritanians Almoravids to the Algerians Almohads and the Merinids, etc ... Not much to add apart from a sickening obsession of these weirdos with anything Algerian!
