Avenue of Mysteries is the story of what happens to Juan Diego in the Philippines, where what happened to him in the past-in Mexico-collides with his future.

Definitely one of the greatest interviews I've ever watched. Restores my faith in USA.

I finished Avenue of Mysteries last week. I try to ration an Irving book for the interim when he doesn't publish a book. I'm excited to learn Irving will (most likely) publish another book next year, Darkness as a Bride, in which he will return to writing about ghosts. My favorite Irving book is A Widow For One Year. He is one of the few living writers who can make me laugh loudly or shed some tears. A Widow For One Year ripped out my heart, and the setting was as vivid as Maine was vivid in The Cider House Rules. I don't always agree with his politics (or his decision to sometimes inject them into his novels) but I appreciate his humor, unapologetically earnest characters, and his Dickensian style.
