Today Judge Merchan announced that Donald Trump's sentencing in his New York criminal case will be delayed until at least September as Trump's attorneys argue the conviction should be thrown out. If you think the President should be liable for official acts, then lets bring Bush up on murder charges for the Iraq war or running an international torture program. I grew up during the cold war and nuclear war hanging over our heads... especially since I grew up on military bases. But I find what is going on now more of a worry than that time period. In the last few years there has been more of a threat to our country from our own politicians and court than from Russia and China combined.

The republic is dead. The USA has never been a democracy, it’s been a representative republic. Similar to the republic of Rome. A republic purposely keeps the government weak. You are neglecting to mention the two levels of extrapolation that was required to get from the Constitution to the to medical records where the word "abortion" could even enter the argument. Rights not explicit but implied. They used an implication of an implication with some fairly questionable logic linking them in the first place. That was it's fundamental flaw. Two levels of extrapolation can make anything mean whatever you want it to mean. This is why RBG was always champing at the bit to get a good RvW case before her. She was not out to overturn it, she just publicly recognized the horrible legal footing it stood on and wanted to get a ruling in that would "fix" some of the awful foundations and put it on a more solid legal footing. People often consider only the result of an SC ruling as that is what has an immediate effect. They forget that it is the opinions that determine how those ruling will be interpreted and the legal basis that reflects how well this is likely to hold up to future generations of review. RvW was possibly the worst majority opinion Thurgood Marshal ever penned. It is surprising that it held as long as it did

There are more recent dictators in the world that started exactly like this. The first steps are always the same: silence press you don’t like with made up reasons. Create a special police force at first unofficially then officially to use as enforcers of the truth. Sieze assets of companies that are in your way. Control all future elections and remove any term limits. If a president does not have to follow any laws then there is no legal method of stopping them.

His grounding and his future prospects are dwindling in front of him. He has already gone way beyond a reasonable interpretation of the law and is now beginning to realize those that were silently offering him future dividends may not be able to back him. No this shouldn't be a part of the justice system, but it is a part this judge is invested heavily in and his chosen pony is running out of steam. If he is wise he is likely to bunt it away until he has an idea of what this will cost him. He has shown himself to be an unrepentant partisan thus far in the case but now the cost may have become too high for him to continue his obeisance to a now clearly losing team.

Which article of the constitution specifically states that a president is completely immune from criminal prosecution for crimes committed in office. Why would I do that? I actually like this nation and want the best for it and it's citizens. The choice is clear. You would vote for a roach, you are endorsing someone who is only nominally better. I want a President that will improve things for our nation and I will never let personal animosity change that. Therefore the only choice is Trump. We put up with 4 years of his crap already and occasional assholery aside, he was a pretty good President. Am I missing something? What does paying hush money payments for a relationship with a prostitute have to do with "official acts"? And regarding the insurrection on Jan 6th... and our 14th Amendment, Section 3, that clearly states he can't be involved in anything like that! Is the Supreme Court overruling the Constitution now? I thought only Congress could do that? I'm very confused and deeply depressed!

Yes, you're missing something. Paying people to not say things is common and not illegal. He was charged with writing 34 checks that had the expense mis-categorized. They used his Tweets and speeches as President as evidence in the trial. They're going to have to retry the case without this evidence. Nobody has been charged with insurrection. Trump's speeches would be given presumptive immunity as well, so he can't be charged for anything he says. There's a process for going after Presidents, its called impeachment. Allowing any DA or Assistant US Attorney to go after the official actions of presidents is a horrible idea.
