It's time for the harvest. We've learned a lot these past few months and have appreciated how this garden has helped our autistic sons. We discuss pros and cons in the video of owning a garden for people on the spectrum.

As an autistic chef, I absolutely approve of this, maybe I would grow stuff like onions, garlic, ginger, cabbage, thai chilies, I can't show you the whole list because I'm not sure what I'll else do.

Cooking helps too, it let me try new things and test flavors in my complete control. When i was little my taste bud would just attack me, sometimesfood i liked stopped being good. When i was 6 i burried lasagna becuase i couldnt handle how wiggly it was

Gardening is a good habit regardless ASD or not. The feeling of watching a sprout growth 🌱 is unmatchable. One question: they made friends at school or neighborhood? It crushes my heart when I see my daughter spaces out when kids are around

When I was a a kid I HATED the sensation of paper on my skin. When I was in elementary school there was a textbook we used to rip sheets of paper out of to do worksheets and the paper from that book gave me goosebumps.

Wow what a awesome garden, yes I agree all kids need to know where food comes from it’s wonderful. I made homemade salsa with my garden it’s so yummy and tastes better than the stores. I think we all should look forward to eating more this way considering the price of food these times. God bless you and flourish your garden abundantly. ❤ you guys always in my heart and prayers .

My comment is not gonna be totally related to the video but I just wanted to share a little about my practices in hope of being helpful. One thing that has had a great impact on my autism has been physical practice. The goal of practices are to make me aware of my body. It may not seem much relevant to vast difficulties autistic people face but believe me it is relevant. Ok I think my source is "Trustmebro" 😂😂. Anyways I started doing light workouts that involved focusing on most parts of my body. And I did them with utmost percession. At first I did them with my eyes open and slowly I tried to do them with my eyes closed. It was torturous. But after a few months I was able to pull it off. Now, after nine months, I can do it effortlessly and it has lowered my anxiety and has highered my energy level and attention span to the point that everybody in my family has noticed BIG changes in me. I hope you and family live a great life.

My daddy has a garden that me and my brother have helped him with Ethan. My sensory swing is right next to his garden. He loves planting flowers all over our yard and backyard and it’s a little bit easier for them all to grow he has of us living in a weather area we live in Washington we even have an area of the garden with all of my grandma’s favorite flowers and everything all the decorations that was passed down after she died. We still have granddad living with us.

Love this video! glad to see that the boys are using a lot of soft skills as theyre getting older and more mature, even with the garden! Also, as someone with autism I wanted to state something, which I could see it as a sensory issue for some who would go to events like shows of some sort, I am a percussionist, am going to (hopefully) do my second year of indoor percussion, and I remember when My first year of marching band happened I had sensory issues from all the noise, But, as I went on, I am really used to the loud noise because of the exposure, and I remember one time in marching band we had a pep rally where all of us were so close to eachother and My sensory kinda kicked up a little bit and I shouldve wore earplugs because, it felt 10x louder especially as we were all bunched up in a small part of the auditorium of our school, and I had some anxiety but did get through it. It might just be me as a performer and listening to a lot of loud percussion most of my life though.

Wow great job guys! 🍅 looks amazing! Rob, I have a side question: I know Alister was out of diapers at 7. Was he in general Ed or special Ed before then? My daughter is in general Ed transitional kindergarten (has speech delays), and she’s in pull-ups still going through potty training. I wonder if the school will kick her out of general Ed for wearing pull-ups.
