Time for a Christmas trip to the mall to see what the boys seek out. Autism isn't just about high sensory avoidance, it can also be about sensory seeking...sometimes in the most common of places. Thank you and let us know if you have any questions or comments.

I am amazed with how well the boys handle the mall! I am 4 days away from turning 14 and on the spectrum, and I still can’t go almost anywhere, especially malls without headphones, fidgets, and comfort items.

I watched this when it came out but I'm now just commenting I'm so proud of the boys and how far they have come like when Allister had to leave the tank and train toys he verbalized he was frustrated and why he was. I'm so proud of these boys and there autism journey

I don't think any of this experience is silly. Not only is it an awesome place but all the sensory input serves a legitimate purpose. It really helps train the brain how to handle everything. A slow process but it is beneficial in the long term. I won't lie - I'd spend a ton of time smelling the candles lol.

I’m always fascinated with your mall. It’s so big with so many things to experience. My son isn’t bothered by noise or lights too much but hates crowds, especially strangers looking at him or talking to him, so doesn’t like to go to places like this. He would also likely end up with a migraine and stomach ache.

What are your thoughts on MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) and a possible link to Autism? Diets? Could be one part of many into discovering the secrets behind Autism. *There is not much anyone can do about MSG because it comes pre packaged or pre cooked into some of the foods we like. Its a theory that I have heard about for many years and always been curious.

Do your boys use noise cancelling headphones when it gets to loud? Maybe you can make a video where the boys use headphones in the mall to block out the noises and to see what difference it makes when they wear them and when they don’t. Btw you guys are my favorite KZfaqrs :)

Love you guys (I'm family)! ❤️ Your boys are doing great because you have a strong parent team and do so much for the welfare of your children and their happiness. I love how you do fun things despite there being a chance of a meltdown or sensory overload! I know all too well the mixed up medication stuff. It has happened a few times with my oldest son on the spectrum. Poor Ian. He looked so comfy on that bed. ❤️ Alistair did great! He was upset but was able to redirect pretty easily. How did you accomplish that? That's 1 of my greatest challenges with my 5 yo on the spectrum. He is not easily redirected. He resists everything. We are starting to feel like he's in charge and I hate it! I need your experience on this.
@AutismFamilyChannel
@AutismFamilyChannel Жыл бұрын
Hi Sabrina. It's simply a matter of redirecting over time and getting him used to that not being a big deal. I also give him a safety net statement "Christmas is coming, we may get that toy for Christmas". FYI we ordered him that light up car on Amazon (half the price of the mall booth) so we meant it. But that helped him get past that moment. Sometimes it doesn't work and we have to walk back to the car, but those moments are becoming more and more rare.

@Autism Family thanks for the guidance. We do that aswell when it's over a toy or something. We say things similar it just doesn't work that often with him. He's still 5 and learning. How old is Allister? Is he 7 now?

About 3 months ago I went to bath and body works, and I ended up having a sensory overload about 2 minutes of being there cause there were so many people and so many smells. Most perfume smells make me feel sick, so I try to avoid going to places that have those smells.

Connor when I get sensory overload I feel tired but have also had the worst stomach pains. Do you think that could be the issue? At least for me when I have overload I eat too much to take my attention from everything or feel sick and don't feel like eating then when I am relaxed I eat a lot. Just something to think about. Love their personalities as they are Ian is really awesome as he is. I am an avoider all that sensory input overwhelms me smells, sounds ect. If I wanted it I would get it you don't need to shove it down my throat.
