An Oregon family traveling with a 15-year old girl with autism was kicked of a United airlines flight for what the airline calls “a disruptive situation.” Carter Evans reports.

That comment is what hurt her cause. The pilot might have made a snap decision to re-land the plane because of the kids massive tantrum, plus that entitled comment. Chaos of a plane is completely different from chaos in your house.
@weemsical61372 жыл бұрын
I think this has more to do with the mother’s reaction. She told the flight attendant that the child could have a meltdown and scratch people. I think the captain made a decision based off the future threat she posed-all relayed by the flight attendant.

I agree. And, if the child reacts that way to being hungry, why didn’t the mother bring snacks for her “picky eater”? It’s not up to the airline to have an assortment of foods on board. Parents need to take responsiblity..... and THINK ahead.

Yes because an 8 year old girl is so dangerous and gonna crash a plane. An 8 year old autistic girl who can’t control how her brain is is such a terrible disturbance to everyone and she should be not allowed to fly on planes because of how her brain is.

The kid did nothing wrong. My best guess is it was caused by the mothers statement of waiting until she has a meltdown and starts scratching. I'm autistic. Her mother suggested that she might scratch which suggests violence. The airline had no choice once the mother mentioned possible violence. She should be carrying snacks. I fly with a huge sack of chewy candy. Why? Because I'm less likely to freak out and disturb people if I've got something tasty and chewy to pop my ears and keep me occupied. The airline did what they needed to do. If I'm on a plane and I see another autistic person melt down, I will melt down. Maybe don't fly if you can't handle bringing everything she needs for a trip? @Ashley-xe9gs2 жыл бұрын
I think it was the comment that they wait for her to get upset and scratch that caused them to get booted. Flight crews take comments regarding aggression VERY seriously. Adding to it, if the parents knew that she is triggered when hungry and is a picky eater, they could have brought something to eat on the plane. While you cannot bring drinks through security, you can bring food and even purchase it in the terminal. What would have happened if she didn’t like the airplane food or they didn’t have any. She essentially admits she demanded the meal with the threat of the daughter getting violent. All people deserve compassion but that doesn't mean submitting to demands under the threat of violence while flying in a plane. Rent a car. Have her scratch your face on the freeway.
@goingslowlynowhere2 жыл бұрын
"Meltdown and scratching herself" is not violence towards others, any more than someone getting a seizure due to low blood sugar or similar. What I do find a bit strange though, is why they did not pack snacks. Might be that there is none that fits her needs that are seen as plane-safe, but it is a bit unlikely.
@keptyeti2 жыл бұрын
@@goingslowlynowhere Maybe I'm missing the part where she says she'd start scratching "herself". I just heard the mother say that in order to get a first class meal she told the attendant "How about if we wait for her to have a meltdown and then she's crying and tries to scratch... and then you'll want to help her..." . That sounds like a threat. I'm entirely open to the possibility that I somehow missed it at some other point in the video but the quote makes it seem like a threat.
@goingslowlynowhere2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure if it was this interview or another I did see with her, they blend together a bit. Yet, if it is one missing word that has made it into a "threat", it is worrying that they are jumping to the conclusion of that is the case. The whole case is messy, and seems to have been caused by lack of training of the staff, and lack of planning from the parents' side. Combined, that does not tend to go well.
@thefudgejudge6962 Жыл бұрын
People with mental handicaps like that can be frightening. I've had interactions with non verbal men who were quite large and made me really nervous to be around them. If a preteen starts growling and moaning and throwing a fit, it is probably very intimidating. Everyone just has to sit there and take it. Taking flights isn't a very common occurrence in the life of most people, maybe splurge on first class if your kid melts down at being hungry. My daughter is on the spectrum and I would never expect others to change because of my kids behavior, that's just courtesy. It's unfair, and this situation was probably infuriating because airports and flying sucks in general, but the parents probably should have paid for first class if their kid has special needs imo Everybody wants to act like they would do the right thing all the time

This could happen on any airline. I'm not trying to sound like a United fan but seriously, this could happen on any plane.

Not if she wasn't allowed to take food on board. I'm not sure about all airlines. But I know some don't allow people to take food or drink on with them. I believe it includes baby formula. But could be wrong

yasmine palma Pepsi is the new Snickers bar. A Pepsi ad recently featured someone, I don't remember who, probably one of those Kardashians, getting rid of riot police by giving them a Pepsi.

I agree with the airlines completely! It doesn't matter if you have Autism or not. Anyone disruptive passengers on a plane should be removed immediately! Airlines aren't putting up with misbehavior anymore, and we as air travelers should all be grateful...
@jetnight882 жыл бұрын
Okay then you’re someone who doesn’t understand autism Or has never experienced it You let a baby scream and cry on the plane so why can’t autistic children? Control your feelings people
