I actually liked the first series, especially the final episode, but I must say the 2nd series was so SO much better! It was great to watch and I personally felt it was clear the direction of the show had changed and was handled so much better. Also, my repetitions are the states of America :')

I also really enjoyed the first season, and as someone with very little experience with Autism, I felt like I still learned a lot. Not once did I think Sam was indicative of every Autistic person. Perhaps the first season is more geared towards non-autistic people? Either way, excited for the next season.

I was satisfied with Casey figuring out her sexuality and basically sprinkling in some questioning on Casey's part and it was really cute and realistic throughout season 2 which leads into a possible relationship with Casey and Izzie

I agree with you, Connor. I was weary of the first season because of all of the talk about dating and such. I didn’t really like the first season that well. When I found out about the second season though, it looked really good compared to the first season. The creators didn’t use autism as a crutch anywhere which was nice. I watched the whole second season on Netflix a few days ago and I really enjoyed it! I can definitely relate to Sam in this season because I’m a senior and I need to figure out what I want to do after graduating. Anyways, I thought this season was WAY MORE INTERESTING than the first one. I thought the humor was funny and the characters quite interesting. I could also relate towards the support group and having to deal with change. Hopefully there will be a season 3. I also learned a lot of facts too. Thank you Connor!

I liked it I wish we could have seen more of the school support group. I really liked those characters and I wish we got more of them.

I really enjoyed your review, thank you! I wanted to start s3 but couldn’t remember what happened in s2 so was looking for a recap but I’m so pleased I found your review instead! You’ve made me want to re watch the second series now which I’m very happy about as, despite not being able to remember the ins and outs, I know I really enjoyed it!

I discovered your channel because I watched the first series of Atypical and was intrigued about what somebody with autism actually felt about it. I agree that the second series is so so so much better, deeper, and just generally more thought put into it. I'm interested to ask though - what do you think about the character of Sam's mum, Elsa? I personally found the character very annoying in series one, and I don't think she had much character development in the second series, which is something I wanted to see.

Personally I like Elsa. And I can understand her. Even though I am a guy. Of course she made some mistakes. But I think we all can make a mistake. But the point is she is trying to change herself and to understand others more. Because she knew that she made a big mistake. So she is trying so hard to make it up. I've done the season 3.

This is a great review, Connor; I found that I can relate to most things; I never confess this everybody but I found out that I'm good at white lying, hehe. It's amazing that the show focused on the creative side of the Autism Spectrum. I've been waiting like this for so long. =D I hope Atypical do a series 3; that'll be amazing. =D

I really liked this show, my biggest problem with your view on season 1 is that you thought it was bad because it viewed on one side of the spectrum but how could they do otherwise with one person??? But as a whole this series was great

I'm glad they've redone the show accurately, unfortunately I haven't watched it neither the 1st or the second series but I'm glad they've listened from the reviews and changed it up.

Honestly, the nightover part was so relatable to me. While i never reacted like that during a nightover, i have a friend i sometimes nightover with, and falling asleep is really hard for me. Firstofall, he used to have this thing going on where he couldnt sleep unless he had something running in the background, wether that was Big Bang Theory or rock/metal. Second, he always has his TV on standby, and that thing has a nasty high pitch whistle it constantly causes when its on standby. Third, the power strip he uses to connect up his many consoles is pretty old, and so if anything was drawing power (like say his TV which i have yet to figure out how to turn off without ripping the cable out) it emits a 50 Hertz mains hum. And then theres this clock... This darn clock... if you think the Domtoren clock is loud, you obviously havnt heard this clock. I dont really care in the day, but at night, every noise this thing makes sounds like a gunshot. And you cant even turn it off because the battery compartment has a screw on it.

I really appreciate the perspective of someone on the spectrum. For me, the "Atypical" series fails without the remarkable performance of Brigette Lundy-Paine, who plays Sam's little sister Casey.

I really like this show, and find it very relatable as an autistic person even though obviously some things are different between the main character and me as the show is done from a male perspective and I'm female and I'm a bit older than this character. Plus, our obsessive interests are different, etc. But, we have the same disability and we both want to be in a relationship very badly (although with me, it's with a guy and him with a girl) and we both don't exactly have good luck in that department even with some small victories. I'm hoping that will change, by the way. I hope that the 3rd season of the show will be just as good or better than the first two. I also think it's very cool that, they used actual autistic actors because it makes the show seem more realistic and it adds disabled representation in the media that's not stereotypical; which is a good thing, and hopefully I'll continue to see them. Also unfortunately, the police scene is sometimes realistic because not all emergency respondents know anything about mental disabilities which they all should be trained on. But, don't fret because most of them are very nice and helpful people and only a few of them are bad. I'm sorry you had bad experiences with police, by the way and I know that situations where they're involved can be nerve wracking. I just wanted to let you know that, that's not always going to happen and you shouldn't live in fear of them. One of my family friends used to be a cop, and she was a good one for example. Another thing I like about the show is that, it tells the stories of the other characters in Sam's life to an extent instead of just focusing on him because they're equally important. I could go on and on, but I don't want to bore people. So, I'm not going to. If you want to talk to me, then fine . But, it's also fine if you don't.

That's what I was thinking for Season 3 as well. That Sam could be roommates with an English foreign exchange student who is also on the spectrum- Kathy Lette's son, Julius Robertson would be perfect for that role! 😜

I do have a large handful of ideas that would make Season 3 great. I did enjoy the second season, just need to keep that comment short since I will be doing an Australian review on Atypical.

not sure what I think about it but did beat around the bush on a few things. It is good that they point out that the outcast's will be hidding randomly in the school but drew it out a bit that they would be easy to befriend. They point out he is often around pepole that smoke but dont put in a curiosity to it, instead you get them getting hit by bassballs as a stress relief. also not sure on the part with the interactions with the cop, he is stimming to prevent a meltdown so would think he would be on the brink of fight or flight. do like how they show him trowing thing when he gets stressed.

If I had seen this when I was your age, I might have been upset too. But, watching it as a much older person who has already been through all that, I found myself laughing all the time because it did remind me of how I used to be and behave. Being able to laugh at yourself is a good place to be. The scene with the police office, I think, was ridiculous. I really cannot imagine that actually happening as it did in the show.
