Fantastic review footage and commentary. This RAV4 is a winner takes an extra bit of $ for the GR Sport additions for those really looking to stand out. The seats and bumpers are the main changes. I purchased a 2024 RAV4 XSE with fully loaded options also in white. It’s a perfect daily driver and this is my 60th car! We don’t get the GR in the U.S. but the XSE has a pano roof, more modern lower DRL’s/fog lights, and a spare tire. Also I purchased numerous OEM accessories such as roof rack, camera system, floor mats, door sill protectors, black emblem overlays, black exhaust tips, body side moldings, splash guards, and more. Germans might be faster and more fun to drive but nothing can beat the peace of mind as a Toyota. At the end of the day it’s just a car and you don’t need to throw all your money at it with maintenance and repairs. A window sticker view would have been perfect.

very nice, car, especialy after you "lexusify" it, you get better noise deadening in highway even than Lexus RX 450h+, - tested with meter myself. I mean to deaden sound, you add extra sound insulation pads into doors, on wheel arches, into back boot area, and put ino doors lexus alike gum door seal strips.

Probably the best automotive journalist out there. Great work. I have the Prime. It is impossible to deplete the traction battery reserve. I've tried through consecutive hard acceleration up hill on quiet motorways. Toyota has worked this out to perfection. In terms of traction battery range the general view from the UK forums and my own experience is 38 to 46 miles in winter and 44 to 58 miles in the summer. Toyota has grossly understated the battery range at 42 miles. On average I personally see about 46 to 50 miles over a year. That's without trying, a heavy foot, and a variety of roads and speeds.

Hi, Thomas, Great as always. I am waiting for mine to arrive in aprox 1 week, can't wait, even though I'm transitioning from a German vehicle. I have one question related to the EU regulation when going over the speed limit. Does it have any way to turn it off easily?
@autogefuehl
@autogefuehl 7 ай бұрын
Cheers! The new EU regulation speed warning is tricky indeed. Activated with every vehicle start. And only few manufacturers have shortcuts yet to turn it off quickly (Mercedes, BMW, Tesla). However this RAV4 should not have it implemented yet in a fierce way, the very strict one only applies to newly homologated vehicles.

Thank you for a fair review of an all too ordinary but market leading 4x4. In many ways what a manufacturer of top selling but not premium vehicles does is more interesting than what a premium manufacturer of exotica does. It was obvious that the RAV4 even GR Sport is not a thrilling ride. What is impressive is just how much you get for the money, how it works with a UI with proper buttons without looking like a teenage star ship, and how it just works day in day out. The PHEV version would suit my journey patterns (lots of local journeys) and also my charging at home from renewables. A PHEV is not just for city driving and it works for me in reasonably remote Worcestershire countryside away from major conurbations. That said, I would not want one except as some sort of second car.

I have a doubt... I already understood that the RAV4 HEV version does not charge via an outlet: the car's own intelligent system manages the use and recharging of the battery while we are simply driving the vehicle. The RAV4 PHEV version, on the other hand, can be charged via an outlet. But does it only charge via an outlet? Hypothetical situation... I'm going on a trip with the RAV4 PHEV. I left home with the battery fully charged (via an outlet) and a full tank of fuel. At a certain point during the trip, the battery runs out of power, so the combustion engine automatically kicks in to continue moving the car. From this point on, and until the end of the trip, will the combustion engine work only/exclusively to burn all the fuel in the tank and move the car? Or will the combustion engine also recharge the battery while the car is moving, as is the case with the HEV version? Asking another question... Is the battery only charged via an outlet in the RAV4 PHEV? Or does the car itself, when in motion, have the same intelligent system present in the HEV version that recharges/uses/recharges the battery?

I really wanted to buy one of these after driving thousands of miles in a rental RAV4 abroad, but it seems they have a big theft problem in the UK. Insurance is over 2x higher vs an equivalent XC40 or Tiguan. The extra security key is a good idea but it won't stop the opportunists in the short term, since they won't know the new model isn't vulnerable like the older RAV4. They'll still trash the car trying to gain access.
@UnseenSpirit
@UnseenSpirit 7 ай бұрын
I don't think they will trash the car. The thieves use electrical devices for fobless entry and copying your fov's signal. If they can't get access, they leave. Some people use Faraday material to stop this by putting their keys in it.

Take security into your own hands, buy some rhino telescopic bollards, a disklok and an immobiliser with tracker. All this may cost you up-to £2k but you get peace of mind when you go to bed at night.

@@UnseenSpiriti had a faraday pouch, they came in the house through the back doors and took my car at 5am. After speaking with forensics they told me faraday pouch are a criminals best friend because they give you false sense of security and risk of home invasion. I appreciate the real button and knobs. And unlike all the European cars, it has seat with separate head rests, not those stupid integrated head rest seats. @5:12 the glove box is large but there 's no lining mean anything you put in there will be rattling around with every turn. @5:17 Large shifter? Because its in the way of a lot of useful storage space. Most other car manufacturer have already moved on from the bean bag shifter. On the bright side none of that horrible piano black so that's something to be happy about.

Hey Thomas. Nice review. My friend has 2022 Rav4 and ive been in it on long drive on czech motorway. Very impressed with the fuel economy for such large box on wheels. And the comfort was very good. Btw do you think you could invest in a decibel meter so we will have a real data?? I'm now in proces of choosing betwen Honda civic 2017 or Golf 2017 both 1.5 turbo. And some reviews also say that golf is much better insulated then the honda. But the Honda is much a bit bigger and also the pathetic parcel shelf on Honda WOULDN'T HELP MUCH with noise insulation from the massive boot!! We know golf is the dady in comfort but just how much more noise really is in the Honda?? Would be great to actually see the real numbers difference on lets say 70mph run. Im in UK. Just an idea? Hi Thomas and team. Mid next year will switch car (currently driving a v60 t6 ) , that needs to be a phev on the same price range or lower of the v60. Since I have 3 kids, need a lot of boot space and. If possible more rear space then the current one I have with the v60 (kids are growing). However I would also like to have the same power train capabilities that I have with the volvo (and that high level trim feeling that volvo also offers). Is the new rav4 a candidate? Any other candidates (like Mazda cx60)? That I should consider?

Drove the 2023 model for 2 weeks while my main car was in the shop. Idk, the build quality in terms of reliability is always good, but the actual build quality in terms of how things fit together, how it all feels, is so incredibly cheap. I definitely wouldn't buy it for the price it sells for, they're way too expensive for what you get. Also fuel economy is quite horrible on the petrol engines, in real life driving.
@UnseenSpirit
@UnseenSpirit 7 ай бұрын
What mpg did you get on the petrol? I guess the appeal is hybrid for these cars. They are expensive and hold their price because in the long run you're less likely to pay for repairs etc. Over 150k-200k miles, I wouldn't touch other brands for example.
@dudarsky
@dudarsky 7 ай бұрын
@@UnseenSpirit It was the 2.0 petrol, I got roughly around 22 mpg, which is utterly horrible for that small engine. This was during winter time, with not a lot of snow around and this wasn't even me driving aggressive, it's just basic driving. I'd personally never get hybrid, resell value is horrible for them and more things to go wrong.
@UnseenSpirit
@UnseenSpirit 7 ай бұрын
@@dudarsky fair enough. That's bad mpg. Hybrid in the UK retains a lot of value, well Toyota anyway. The summer sand winters are mild compared to other countries and the batteries seem to last well here. The cost of ownership per mile over it's lifetime on a Toyota is pretty good because generally servicing it with oil changes etc is enough. Having had issues with Nissan and Ford, I'm sticking to Toyota. Cars in the garage is just stressful for me.
@dudarsky
@dudarsky 7 ай бұрын
@@UnseenSpirit The thing that bothered me about that MPG was that my main car, a BMW X5 G05 40d mileage would only be around 29mpg, and that 29mpg is with me flooring it and always driving it like a mad man, also with all the horsepower behind it. While with the Toyota engine you would get horribly high fuel consumption and absolutely no acceleration as a result of it. I prefer punchy engines, that's why I avoid most car brands and always avoid smallest engines.

Thomas, great review. Toyota sells mechanical reliability and all round mediocrity. They don’t worry about the quality build of the car body, they invest more on reliability of drive train and transmission but then for that reliability they charge you as if it’s a bmw interior. If you think about it, it’s an ingenious model, offer them less overall but charge them more for what truly makes you a trustworthy brand…..as I go to Toyota to buy my own rip off 😂.

Probably the best all-around SUV in its class. Very practical, but zero fun-to-drive. Precious little creature comforts, e.g. not the best place to spend time. I don't like the big awkward shifter on the center. Other manufactures have a better use for that space. The RAV4 is on my short list along with the VW Tiguan, and the Hyundai Tuscon, and Kona N, but it has a boat load of comprises, including its depression inducing interior (the Tuscan leads in this category). To call this a sport SUV is really not ok. My 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper 1.5 Twinpower Turbo is much more capable than this and equally reliable and fuel economy is really sufficient at only 6l per 100km when driven at long highway trips, 7l when driven on short trips or sporty country trips.
