Another phd2 video , many are out there but I pulled all my hair out trying to get it fingered out . Then I found Beginners guide to ascom by Hogarth. It was because I didn’t install the right drivers . I first did a windows update that took nearly 3 hours then updated Java . I have a cgem2 Mount , asi 120 mm mini camera , 2 guide scopes 50 mm for spacecat , 60 mm for celestron C8 and my wife’s laptop. I had to install , ascom platform 6.5 , asi camera drivers 1.0.4.3 also asi drivers V3.0.0.9 , celestron telescope and focuser 6.1.7350 and of course PHD2 V22.69 for Windows . But I have to say every video I learned something. Yours is one of the better ones . You are good at explaining things so thank you for your hard work and sustained effort to help us out . Now here in Northern California we are burning up with the worst fire season on record . It’s so smoky you can’t see the sun . Two new moons will pass with no night sky . Clear sky’s everyone.

Calibrating on stars to high in the sky can give you a poor calibration because of a lack in star movement. When this happens try finding a star lower in the sky in the quadrant you will be shooting in and do your calibration there. Then just Plate solve back to your target.

Small correction. You actually can use dithering with the 1st option too and you don't need a computerized goto mount. Example: you can use something like a Skyguider Pro and you can dither (RA only).

Every experienced Phd2 user would explain to a new user, to get in the habit of starting w your scope pointing at the celestial equator and the meridian; closer the better. Then you should start with the calibration. FOLLOWING the calibration run the Guider Assistant for 10 minutes or more (this learns long frequency error in the mount) and it recommends the settings to be applied to your Phd2. then guide. If guiding isn’t good, do all that again. You should guide at least 30 minutes while making no changes to Phd so you get a starting baseline. Know where Phd2 is writing it’s logs. If you need any help everyone that knows anything about Phd will ask for your log file. Download the free PHDLogViewer and learn to read your log file yourself. Phd has an extensive manual and docs on analyzing your performance . Read the manuals. If you need help goto PhD’s official Google forum; have your log file ready to upload. Find the link at phd’s homepage. one doesn’t solve guiding problems by pushing aggression. Finally don’t overload your mount. Your equipment should weigh in at about half the payload of your mount’s capacity. This allows the mount to provide fast adjustments.

Spot on mate, this is text book👍however i di calibrate for the last 2 years at a meridian/equatorial line, it works for cuple of time then it start to go balistics, i will try now to calibrate every time at the target, will see if make any difference🖖
@wanderingquestions7501
@wanderingquestions7501 3 жыл бұрын
Davide Mancini .... at the meridian allows calibration and the Guide Assistant the most neutral position to work from, then as you say you can recalibrate on your target but at this point Phd has been tweaked buy the meridian Guide Assistant. If it was working and tanked one wonders what’s up. My mount was guiding great and then went to crap. Found out a bit of end-play worked into my RA axis

Hi Tim, thanks so much for such great video . I came to your channel as Recently i have started the AP hoppy with a DSLR , zoom lens and Eq mount (heq5 but from orion) and guide cam. And because i live in an Arabic country which the AP is almost unknown and i am struggling at how to connect the Stelleruim/CDC with eqmod /ascom , st4 guiding or pulse guiding setting. And how to connect all with APT . So may i ask you to make a detailed video about not anly the wiring connections but also all the software ( how the eqmod speaks with PHD2 and how to set the guiding / st4 or pulse)as i not able to figure this out . I much appreciate if you help me at this . I am using the ST4 cable and the rs232 via hand controller . What setting should i put for the eqmod to enable the guiding and how to integrate everything to work with APT to shoot and dither, what is the waiting time for dithering I am sorry for my bad english , but I have great hope that you and your simple style may guide me. Thanks so much and sorry for my long comment

Try the "Guiding Assistant" which is included in PHD2... it will check everything (even bad polar alignment) and then tell you how to change or autocorrect the values. That's really push here dummy 😂 Do you know Stellarmate or Astroberry? Both are OS for an Raspberry Pi running Ekos. Take a look, no need for an laptop anymore outside ;)
