In Thailand. I use a BYD Dolphin, the car costs 17,000 dollars, good quality, full technology. I drive about 100 kilometers a day, and use about 40 dollars for electricity per month. Compared to a Toyota Camry, I have to pay 470 dollars per month for gas. It's a big difference.

Zeekr owner here, the zeekr in the video, the frunk need a forceful smacking to close the lid properly. It is not a panel gap thing, they are produced from the same production line as Volvo and polestar, because they are based on the same SEA platform. It is a negative side effect to make the front lid extra light and soft for pedestrian protections. Believe me, the first time I try to close the lid, I thought there is something wrong with the front locking mechanism.

You just have to close it as every Tesla owner closes theirs. Soft and with much tlc for your car. At the very last press down left and right of the middle of the hood with your left and right hand palm without any oil on it - better use soft gloves or microfibre cloth - until you hear the soft "click" that signals the successful operation of closing a soft aluminum bonnet. Smack it down at your own peril.

~80% of Americans have never ridden in an EV, let alone driven one. Many still think "golf cart". A well integrated EV powertrain can make even a mundane grocery getter feel like a Mercedes, thanks to the combination of instant torque and quiet operation. The oil & gas industry, combined with legacy auto makers who don't want to change too quickly help spread negative information on siloed media outlets (and truthfully, there are still downsides - like the grid isn't necessarily ready for mass adoption and next gen battery chemistry still needs to be adopted to make people feel safe - albeit much of the risk is way overblown) .

These are all coming here to Brazil ,less Tesla unfortunately. Keep in mind, that China is a much larger trade partner with Brazil than US. BYD & GWM have Brazilian factories that are coming online. In response, the legacy automakers (with some exceptions like Honda) have begun dropping prices & improving option packages. Plug-in hybrids are quite popular due to lack of charging infrastructure. But it is just a matter of time. The thing that is holding back the entire takeover is that lack of fast charging infrastructure. When that gets resolved in Brazil, it’s lights out for legacy auto.

Brazil is like Canada highly urbanized so the need for large inter-city charging is MUCH MUCH less than the USA or Europe... We are both linear nations that basically exist as long rail/road corridors... Here in Canada both Tesla and Petro-Canada built nation-wide rapid charging networks by openly opening about 2 dozen stations nation wide and it covers about 95% where people in the nation actually live. For those random routes off grid into the wild, hybrid's are wildly popular here for this very reason and why I think PHEV's will do well for a while unless governments dole out the cash to subsidize more "unprofitable" but much needed remote locations...

European and Chinese safety regulations are harmonized and include pedestrian impact testing. US regulations require minimum damage to the bumper in low-speed impacts, but do not test for pedestrians. Chinese vehicles will likely need minor modifications to the bumpers, as do many current European cars. There are also some features like adaptive headlights, camera-based mirrors, etc. that are not yet allowed in the US.

I would recommend waiting, because in my view in the next 2 years there will be a big improvement of chinese evs. Better consumption, autonomous driving capabilities and fast charging will also be part of lower price segments. For example Xpeng's MONA model coming in Q3 2024 will introduce advanced autonomous driving capabilities to the 20.000$ price segment. The ZEEKR 001 facelift can charge at 550kw and do 10-80 in 11 minutes. These cars will be international eventually, so that's why I'd recommend waiting !

The pedestrian will decide whether the driver is paying attention and choose whether to walk in front of that car or not depending on how distracted, or young, or disinterested the driver appears to be. The little animation on the hood of the car is totally useless. It might even be a distraction. (!) My point is in an extreme situation IF there is an incident or not, the thing on the hood would be totally pointless -and ridiculous if the driver brings it up in court. The range estimate of the ZeekrX seems to be converted from CLTC then compared to Model Y EPA range. To normalize for CLTC it would be: ZeekrX 512-560km (318-348mi) Model Y 554-688km (344-428mi) Iirc, as a vague rule of thumb, CLTC is about 35 percent higher than EPA.

@@williamwatitwa3534 Conveying 35 percent higher numbers makes it sound like the Zeekr is way ahead on range, which would be false. The correct ranges instead covey that Zeekr is indeed aiming for Y's entry trim. Not everyone's equipped to catch this error, so surely it will confuse some casual observers. So yes they are still competing, but no need to inflate the comparison.

The internal competition in the Chinese market is much more intense than that in the American market. This full competition makes the products of every car manufacturer and supplier evolve rapidly and iteratively, not only in terms of progressiveness technology, but also in terms of aesthetics, economy, reliability and charging convenience. If anyone believes that China is excessively subsidizing, it is ignoring that the second most subsidized car company in China is Tesla China, which is wholly owned by the United States.

It doesn't matter what Canada does or wants. If the US shuts out Chinese cars, Canada must follow. Most of the world's car markets safety standards are harmonized under various NCAPs: EuroNCAP, ChineseNCAP, Latin America NCAP, Korean NCAP, Australian NCAP etc. So a Chinese designed car will not require much modification to be sold in Europe, or Australia, or Mexico for that matter (since you can buy BYDs and other Chinese cars right now in Mexico). Canadian safety regulations however are harmonized with the American FMVSS standards, which would require more modification in order to be compliant. What this means is that a car would only be sold in Canada if the carmaker already took the time and money to make it US compliant. Nobody is going to do all that just the sell a car in the much smaller Canadian market. But since the US put on these tariffs to block the Chinese carmakers to enter the US market, then that also means they won't be selling in Canada either. The only exception would be Volvo, since they do sell in the US, which means they can then also sell those US compliant cars in Canada.

The self opening and closing doors are a great feature. The auto business is a tough business to be in. I do have a question for both of you. How much power does an electric car draw if you just park it in your garage after the battery is fully charged? I don't drive a lot and I don't want to pay for the equivalent of a 200 watt light bulb burning 24/7. I figure it must take some amount of energy to keep an EV computer working, but I don't know how much.

The parasitic draw varies a lot by manufacturer and according to how you adjust the settings. A lot of gas cars will drain the 12V battery after a few weeks of sitting. Some EVs can be set to draw less and last much longer.
