Not even gonna lie, when the notification popped up I misread it as "Abandoned Snack Gift Shop" and for half a second wondered of the Bacon's had gotten into urban exploration.

Japan must be a great place for introverts with all the vending machines and self service shops.

if anything its creating a ton of isolation for young people.
@ArtzyZero3 ай бұрын
@@youtubeyoutubeyoutube9961Yeah I have to agree. I'm rather introverted but communication with people is important. Loneliness can be a terrible thing and automation like this only makes it worse. Great when you just need to pick something up on the go, which I believe is usually the intention given how work oriented Japan is but yeah, the side effects are isolation for many.

These actually do exist in many airports in the US. It's normal to walk by unstaffed shops selling snacks and gift items. Obviously there are still cashiers in the luxury shops, but nothing in the video cost even $10 so it's definitely equivalent. Maybe it works because surveillance is generally high, and because people have to have a valid ticket so there are no opportunistic theives.
@jeffw12673 ай бұрын
@kinseylise8595 And, of course, demographics play a part too. Certain groups are more likely to vandalize things.

I used something like this at the Moda Center before a Blazers game. You scan your card to get through the gates to go in, take what you want and walk out with your stuff. You don't even have to stop somewhere to confirm what you bought and they just charge your card when you left. There's even a QR code you can scan for your receipt after you step out of the store area.

I'm amazed at the shelf stability in Japanese convenience food. I could be wrong but it didn't look like anything in that shop was refrigerated, and it contains pork, fish, AND chicken. Absolutely bonkers to think it's just sitting there (admittedly with an expiration date) and it's still safe to eat.

That’s because Japanese legal system do not tolerate theft unlike the Soros-funded District Attorneys in some US cities who refuse to prosecute criminals. Case-in-point, businesses are moving out of San Francisco (not the only one with woke DAs) because of rampant shoplifting and organized robberies.

Saw a few already in the US. Like this one usually in the airport post-security. There was a grab and go grocery store that worked similar to this a few years ago, but it closed because it didn't accept cash but opened in a neighborhood where people preferred to pay cash. Fortunately, the kiosk here avoids that nonsense.

1:10 When the shopping basket is placed near the cashier, the products are automatically entered into the checkout system. Is there a sensor near the cashier to detect it?
@ZestyTime2333 ай бұрын
I remember seeing several documentaries on this type of store a few years back, advertised as the future of shopping -- Usually there's several cameras monitoring what goes into shoppers' baskets. Some stores would skip the checkout entirely and automatically charge your card as you left ---- Though that would require pre-registering your details to that particular store, so perhaps that's why there's still a checkout in this one.

@samtaholo3 ай бұрын
The items probably have RFID tags attached to them. When you put the basket down at the register, the machine reads the tags and charges you accordingly.

Depends where you put them. Big cities..yes..they would be looted in mins. Put them in small rural towns. They would do ok. I am a farmer and sell lots of fresh produce and other things on tables in front of our farm. People take what they want and deposit the money in a little lock box. Never ripped off in 20 years. Many times, I even make more than what I was asking. Left a 100 dollar tip once. Different kinds of Americans, I guess.
