The tool carousel I am designing has gone through several iterations over the past 3 years. I thought I would document the history and talk about the next steps in a short video. I intend to make several videos in this series to cover the design an implementation of the hardware (this video) the controllers, motors and supporting systems like tool measuring and dust shoes.

Thank you! It has been a long road. You would think something like this would be simple, right? Just a spinning table and some tools stuck to it. But then you start bumping into it and wow, it can get expensive. Every sensor has a story behind it.

I just ran across your video and found it pretty helpful. We currently have 3 AvidCNC Pro machines. Like you, I didn't like the loss of table real estate when placing the tool forks in that back of the machine. I also found that parking a dust shoe was problematic and spent months developing multiple iterations of a retractable dust shoe that would work with a CNC Depot spindle. I'm happy to say the the retractable dust shoe is working well and stable. I think there is some room for improvement but we've tested it in a production environment and so far so good. I've look at the umbrella approach and thought it would be great if it was mounted to one end of the X axis. That way tool change travels are kept to a minimum. Trecking back and forth on a 4x8 machine is time consuming. I've just started my adventure into the tool changer. If you would like to collaborate on designs, let me know.

Thanks for the offer, everything is finalized at this time and we are waiting on the e-commerce system to be finished. It's all that payment and account management stuff that takes a lot of work. Stay tuned! April is looking likely.
