Yes to what Leonardo said below. Once the chassis end of the control arm bolt is just past finger tight the suspension should be loaded to ride height then finish tightening the 21mm nut . Can use a small jack and small block of wood to compress the suspension about 2 1/2 inches taking care to not push the car off the jack stand or jack holding the car up . By preloading the chassis end bushing it avoids getting over stretched when the car is on the ground. Over stretching the bushing causes it to fail prematurely .

I recommend using Rhino ramps because lifting the car while on jacks can be dangerous. It also much more accurate to place on ramps. If you don’t have 4 ramps jack up the rear place the rear on jacks stands and the front on ramps.

Great vid thanks guys, did the same job yesterday, the only challenge I had was trying to do it on my own and the strut kept turning so had to remove drop link. The drop link bolt seized so had to cut it off! Lucky I had new one so job done but took longer than planned. Nice to have a car that now runs smoothly and quiet again👍

Agree, great vid. Just finished the job on my drive and had the same problem with the strut turning. Managed it with trolley jack, both hands and a knee! Would be a lot easier with a spare pair of hands just to get the top strut bolt back in.

Don't get me wrong, but the video is very misleading and this is how you should NOT do it. Never. The big bolt always must be tightened at last, and when the car is resting on its tires. Not when it is on the jack. If you do it like this, you will cause a premature damage of the bushing because it will be under constant tension, the rubber will be twisted inside and basically after 20-30 thousand km you can change it again. Every mechanic should know this. Sorry guys, i like your channel but with this is not right...

@@etripp6959One way would be to use ramps. Tighten it loosely, put the wheel on, let the car down, drive the front onto a pair of safe ramps of equal height. Now you can finish tightening the bolt from under the car.

I have a 2014 Mercedes c300 sport and my steering is pulling a little bit and when I go over bumps I hear a wack noise do you think it’s the ball joint or the stabilizer bar bushings? I replaced the sway bar links because the rubber was bad on them but I still hear the noise so I was thinking ball joint or sway bar bushings would really help for your opinion

I have a problem not related to this video. I have a 2009 MB C300 Luxury. The fan on my car turns on at high speed after the car is off and stays on. It turns on at different times. I have to disconnect the battery to avoid the battery dying after the car is off. I've changed the MAF sensor, The A/C pressure sensor but nothing is working. I don't get any check engine light or codes. Do you have an idea what else I could try to get this fixed?

Guy I bought a c-class kompressor on the front right hand side there was a doughnut space saver this is leading me to think this is where the trouble happened it must have struck a pathway or a when I drive in a straight line with the car it is smooth no noises no knocking but if I turn to the left putting the pressure of the car onto the doughnut wheel the car will wobble in a fish fishtail and pretty noticeable to but if I can left putting the way to the car onto the proper wheel it will not and if I go over speed ramp it will wobble, what do you reckon off the top of your head

Is it possible that a bad control arm can mess with your alignment?
@dulisha
@dulisha 5 жыл бұрын
Not really unless the rubber completely disintegrated. Normally you get lots on noise when moving wheel while stationary. Its easy way to tell its control arms. I drove with bad one for few months but rubber just started breaking and had no issues with alignment.
@glasser2819
@glasser2819 5 жыл бұрын
yes 100%, loose front control arm will toe-out front wheels: cars unstable in straight position. The Benz OEM control arm bushing is junk with an open slot in the rubber... premature failure galore like all Benz parts 😂
@nAN3ftw
@nAN3ftw 4 жыл бұрын
@@glasser2819 You are wrong. Mercedes OEM parts are good, so is Lemforder, Meyle HD. Problem is lack of education on part installation. This control arm is installed wrong, the rubber bushing will tear down in a year or two at its best. Everyone who follows this video will install it wrong and blame mercedes or part manufactor. He tightened the bolts while the car was off ground, the control arm sits in that position. Once the wheel is on, car is lowered to the ground, whole weight will be causing tear on the bushing. 24/7 there will be heavy tension on the rubber bushing, it wants to twist into its position but cant, thats why they fail. The one and only way is to hand tighten the bushing, torque ball joint to 50nm i believe. Put the wheel on, lower the car on ground, let the control arm find its neutral position, then torque it to 80nm as far as i remember. You have to put some silicon grease or spray over the rubber bushings, to impregnate it and protect from water, salt, low temperatures. You have to use medium loctite on the bolt. Only then it is installed correct and with "normal use" it will last 7-10years without a problem.

No they are different. Because the 4matic has front axles alot of the suspension parts in the front are different from RWD, but the parts for the rear are mostly the same. Then again springs and struts are different part #s between luxury and sport models also. Control arm 4matic front right upper is 2043307411/2043309111. Front left upper is 2043307311/2043309011.
