Not all SUVs are created equal - that much is obvious. But in some cases it goes beyond size or market position and applies to the very essence of the vehicle itself. That doesn’t necessarily amount to some sort of wow factor, but it can on occasion mean the sum of its parts is enough to make it an outstanding entry in its designated segment.
Such is the case with the 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Max - a sport utility that exists as an unassuming appliance intent on making family life as easy as possible, and at the same time as one of the finest entries like it on the market.

Dan, People who need 360 hp will gravitate towards the Max but the ordinary Grand Highlander Hybrid is putting down impressive numbers when practicality is being measured.

Spot-on - but Toyota Canada’s trim and packaging strategy means you’ll see plenty of these range-toppers running around based on amenities alone!

It has TSS 3.0. It can fully stop to 0 km/h and even start going again automatically. It also has Traffic Jam Assist and lane changing assist. You pull turn signal stalk and it changes lane for you when it's safe. I really believe you misunderstood the system.

With wireless Apple CarPlay, Apple gives you two options. Your phone can use Bluetooth or WiFi. The latter is going to be a better experience as the former is slower and laggy. I am guessing that Toyota is forcing WiFi connections to stop people from complaining about how laggy wireless Apple CarPlay.

Let's address the elephant in the room: factory orders in GTA run 12-24 months waiting lists for Hybrid Max. Not to metion other popular Toyota hybrid models. I'd love to see that discussed on Canadian KZfaq channels.

We’ve discussed this in other reviews, as well as on our podcast (which you can also find here). Toyota has been about as forthright as any automaker could reasonably expect to be in this situation. The reality is it’s a macro issue, not a micro one. There are other, much larger markets Toyota serves, all of which are demanding hybrids at the same rate as Canada. Ultimately, demand is far outpacing supply - an issue I don’t foresee changing anytime soon, unfortunately.

@@danilika9420 Just as a fun fact - we are Canadians, but I'm working in US, Ohio. We just bought GH Hybrid in 2 hours lol. For msrp. It is readily available in US. Inthe dealership we bought it - they had 3 GH on the lot. IMHO Toyota needs to consider upping up allocations for Canada. Especially considering we have a best plant in North America in Cambridge, Ontario.

In Saskatoon, the only Toyota dealer we have in town is not taking orders for the hybrid models. There is a 2 - 3 years wait I have been told.

Wait…. So you’re telling me that even after paying 70k… I can’t use my phone’s hotspot if I’m using wireless Apple CarPlay?!?

Unfortunately not; if you want to enable the hotspot, you have to plug in to connect to CarPlay.

You can't have the car tether to a phone for WIFI unless the phone itself is plugged into the car - at that point the car acquires internet access and acts as a HOTSPOT for multiple devices in the car. - as it's using the phone for internet. Hope that helps clear that part up for some.
