It's that time of year again! Tim not only turns but does a little carving and a few other surprises to create a beautiful Autumn Leaf Dish from Walnut.

Phil Anderson is next on my viewing list. I really like his style and methods, including his tenon removal method, which I use, often. You, Tim, I think of as a skilled expert for many reasons, visible and tacit. That live center ring was an example of that skill, like your ability to reproduce a piece. Great work and impeccable video quality.

Super cool, Tim!!! I first saw this done by a wonderful man in Utah at a Utah Woodturning Symposium a number of years ago. Raleigh Lockhart is his name and he collects leaves from various states and countries as his work sent him all over the world. He’d dry out the leaf and cut out the shape on a scroll saw of some amazing wood - often the same species of wood if possible. He now lives in northern Colorado and Raleigh has a great Instagram to see these if you’re interested. Your approach is a bit different but that’s the beauty of turning! Thanks for sharing the amazing work as always, Tim!

Absolutely beautiful dish. The only sad thing was how much wood it took to make, I'd want to get two dishes out of that block but it's probably not possible and I'm definitely no expert..😁
@woodturningwithtimyoder

It takes 2" to make the subtle curve. It is a little hard to see how much the dish curves up. You also loose a little on the bottom when you turn away the mortise.

Tim , Curious why you couldn't resaw that blank and save half of the wood you turned into shavings and dust on the floor. Still a beautiful piece of work!

If I re-sawed it the leaf would be flat and not have a curve. Then I would be a woodworker and not a woodturner :^)

Gene B - Beautiful piece....I have a lot of walnut around so I will surely try this project. One question. Where did you get the small reciprocal saw. I have looked around and can't find one that small or one that's powered by air. Thank you.

Lovely. Had just found a very nice piece of oak in my firewood that's perfect to make a smaller one thanks. Did you change the shape of the leaf at all, because all the leave I found the centre is surprisingly high up and a tenon or mortice would hit air?
